Friday Speaker: Elizabeth Kilpatrick

In 2014, Elizabeth was 47 years old and a single mother of a 17-year-old son whose father had passed away a few years prior. She was 400 pounds and living a life that revolved solely around her son and work.

At that time, Elizabeth could barely walk from her home to her car. She had pretty much given up on life, struggling with isolation, depression and suicidal thoughts. The only reason Elizabeth hadn't followed through on those thoughts was that she knew what it would do to her soon-to-be college bound son.

Hanging on by a thread, Elizabeth decided to make a change in her life and opted to get a vertical sleeve gastrectomy on April 14, 2014, with Dr. Gary Belzberg at Kaiser South Bay in Southern California.

Since then everything about Elizabeth's life has changed. She has lost and kept off almost 200 pounds and discovered that she has an athletic side! She went from barely leaving her house to traveling for the first time in her life; she has now visited three countries and eight states.

Elizabeth also started a YouTube channel (youtube.com/findingelizabeth) where she has been documenting her vertical sleeve journey since her first-week post op. She makes weekly videos and hosts a YouTube show for weight loss surgery patients called, The Naked Truth. Elizabeth loves being part of the bariatric community! Her passion is supporting others that also struggle with morbid obesity by sharing the message that it is never too late to change the direction of your life.
