Saturday Speaker: Dr. Seun Sowemimo, MD, FACS, FASMBS

Seun Sowemimo (Dr. Seun), MD, FACS, FASMBS is a board certified and fellowship-trained general, laparoscopic and bariatric surgeon specializing in minimally invasive weight loss surgery and other advanced surgical techniques.

He completed fellowship training in advanced minimally invasive (laparoscopic), robotic and open bariatric surgery at the Hospital of St. Raphael, New Haven, CT, a 511-bed teaching hospital affiliated with the Yale University School of Medicine.

Dr. Seun completed his general surgery internship and residency training at College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University, Harlem Hospital Center, New York, where he was also appointed Chief Resident. Additionally, he earned a medical degree at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos.

He completed surgical training at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, after undergoing clinical clerkships at Kings College Hospital, both in London.

In addition to presenting professional and patient-focused presentations at medical society and national meetings, Dr. Seun is actively involved in several professional healthcare organizations: American Medical Association (AMA); Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons; Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons; American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons; American College of Surgeons.

He is the medical director of Prime Surgicare and Central Jersey Bariatrics, both bariatric, advanced laparoscopic and general surgical practices located in Freehold, New Jersey.

Dr. Seun practices medicine with a personal, lighthearted and easy-going manner. He is married with three children. In his spare time, he enjoys a good round of tennis and biking on weekends with his bariatric patients.

Breaking Through Barriers: Combating Genetics & Environment

Join Dr. Seun Sowemimo, FACS, FASMBS, in this session in which he will address overcoming genetic and environmental challenges and how to turn a risk factor into an asset in your weight loss arsenal.

Several factors contribute to obesity; some are manageable, but others are not. Dr. Sowemimo will address how to gain control over some these triggers, such as your environment, and prevent the onset of other uncontrollable caveats, such as genetics. He'll also discuss ways your surroundings can benefit or inhibit your ability to manage your weight.
