That is so awesome! There hasn't been too much going on with this board. I am 10 years out with my band. I struggle but have been able to keep most of my weight off. Keep up the good work.  Mona

Topic: Well... It has been 10 years now...
It has now been 10 year on January 14th since I had my Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery.
My starting weight was over 386 lbs. and my lowest since surgery was 192 lbs. I managed to maintain all the weight loss for almost 7 years. Over the last year I have gained 54 lbs. I am going to have to get off my butt, and get back on track and get those 54 lbs back off.  I don't want to ruin all my hard work, and go back to the way I was.
The good thing is, I know that if I increase my exercise and watch what I eat... I will be able to get those few pounds off and get back to where I was.
So, here are some words of encouragement for all of you out there that are either about to get the surgery, or have just had it. You can do it! And you can keep it off. Even with the 54 lbs I gained, I am still a winner. I still have managed to keep off over 132 lbs.
Topic: RE: I want to have reconstruc...
I have just rejoin ObesityHelp but I had to put in a new member name and password.  I really would like to begin where I left off.

On a said note, I have gain a lot of weight back and I would like to have a revision.  Currently I have no insurance that would approve of this surgery.  I did not know that RNY don't last.  I have learn to eat smaller portions, still do.  my things I am picking up old habits of eating bad food.  I need to do this right away.  This time I will have to have my surgery financed.  I don't know where to begin.
Topic: experiencing problems w/ silastic ring VG - any others?
Hi, my friend is now 6 years post-op from the gastric bypass with the silastic ring. Up until now she had been very successful. But now she can't keep any solids down. I am trying to help her research any others that have had this procedure and how they are doing now. We are in Northern CA., but she had her procedure done in Los Angeles.
Please help if you have, or know, of anyone who has had this procedure.......we'd love to chat!  -Darlene
Topic: RE: 5 yrs out- How r u doing?
Paula, My g/f just had to have a revision of her gastric bypass surgery back in march(she to did the open rny). the surgeon whjo did the surgery did everything by the books but as time went on she had all kinds of issues post op for the first three years including an ulcer. in order for the ulcer to be corrected she had one of two choices - either reverse the initial rny surgery or revise it and make it smaller still. she (we) chose option two. but since then she has been feeling better as a whole.
Topic: 5 yrs out- How r u doing?
I had surgery January of 2002 (Open RNY). I went from 390 to 225 and hung in there for a few years. I slowly gained 35-40lbs the last two years and I had an upper GI. My pouch was tiny but my stoma had ripped open. I had the LapBand placed on my pouch to act as a new stoma and I haven't lost jack squat. Has anyone else had issues that needed revision, if so, what revision did you do and how is it working?? My husband had this surgery (open rny) a month after me, different surgeon, different hospital, and he is totally fine, still maintaining his loss.

    Topic: RE: Hi There!
My name is lionette and I have lost about 84 pounds. It was about 114 pounds but I gained after I had my baby in dec. I am trying to lose 10 more pounds and then I would be at a weight that I desire again.
    Topic: Hi There!
Hi everyone, this seems to be a very quiet board. I had my lap band surgery Jan 22nd, 2002. I have lost 110 and have kept it off 2 years. It is an awesome tool. My diabetes and high blood pressure are gone. I feel wonderful. How is everyone else doing? Hope you are staying on track. Mona
    Topic: RE: Unusual Problem?
worth all of and and more. my life before was just an existance. without the surgery, by now my heart would have started going, my back was already gone and I was on disability. my breathing was labored always. I doubted I would make it to 50. I live now as I haven't since I was a teen! Being obese and all its complication are a risk and scary to think of. Do all your research, ask lots of questions. Talk to people whom have been out about 5 years and see how they are doing and what they say. It will be 4 years this Saturday for me. Good luck and let me know how you do!
    Topic: RE: Unusual Problem?
Hi, I haven't had my surgery yet but this sounds kind of scary. I hope you are okay! I have one question for you though, is it worth everything you've been through, would you do it again?
Topic: RE: 3yrs. and feeling great
Hi Albert. WooHoo! Congratulations on your weight loss. I will be looking at 4 years also. Have you made your goal yet? I have been able to maintain my weightloss for almost 2 years. I love my band. Mona
    Topic: RE: TrimSpa
It doesn't swell up - not sure where you heard that. What you should probably be careful for is the amount of caffiene these pills have. Most of them are just Green Tea Extract and Caffiene. You still need to diet and exercise with TrimSpa. They also have natural herbal "mood elevators" which make people feel good when taking them. I have not heard anyone have long term success with TrimSpa at all. Good luck!
Topic: RE: What a nice way to keep in touch.
Hi, I'm in the same boat. I've gained back 30 pounds. I'm trying for the revision to fix it. The insurance company is not agreeing. They say I am not big enough. They act like this is for the first surgery. The surgeon's office is fighting for me. They are great. I am hungry all the time too. I can eat all day. Try not to but you know how that goes. Good luck with everything.
Topic: RE: I want to have reconstruc...
Yep, I'm glad too. 116# is all that I have lost also (from original 286). I want to get at least another 30 pounds off, but instead gained 10 over the holidays. I too, snack-graze during the work day, but have found that when I go back to good protein in the morning it is less of a problem. This is still a great life and I am enjoying the changes. I would love to consider surgery, but I had severe p-op infections with nearly 3 months in the hospital, so doc wants me to wait. At 57 years old, I would like to get rid of the pan and left the butt. Still look darn awful in a swimsuit and I live in California where we swim, ski, and sail no matter what we look like. I feel that I can do more things at this smaller size and starting to look alot stronger and toned. Good luck Girls! Linda Lou
    Topic: RE: Unusual Problem?
I have a insision hernia, started about 2 months after my surgery in 1/2002. Only caused occasion pain until recently. Looks like a baseball in my belly button. Now if i sit too long with pants tight around that spot, it leaves me in pain. So back to my Dr. this week, and surgery soon after. I don't like the though of being opened again, but better now than have it "blow out" and need emergancy surgery. But I read the other postings to your email, and I'm sure by now you've been diaganoised, treated, and feeling better.
    Topic: 3yrs. and feeling great
Friday it was 3 yrs for me. Been a great past year. Started bike racing (road and cyclocross); I finished! At first it was embarising to be so far behind and humilating to be pulled in my first race. But I realized how far I've come in 3 yrs; that 3 yrs ago I couldn't even ride a bike, much less hardly walk. I started working harder, realizing that the hard exercise was the only way I was going to keep the weight off also. I practiced cyclocross racing with a great group of people in Philly, then I entered and finished 2 races (thought for sure I was going to die!). My goal for this winter is to get my weight down to @ 160-170; that's is going to be the hardest weight to lose, I feel. The surgery got me 75 % of the way to here, I know this last goal will be me fighting the old eating habits and exercising a hell of alot. Those old carbo-goodie eating demons are still in my brain, but I must not let them rule me again!!!! Oh, and my insision hernia is finally acting up alot, so under the knife I go again! But better to get it done before racing season, I fiqure. My advice to anyone who may be falling back to old habits or gaining is heavy exercise, anytime you can spare. Walk, run, swim, lift, cycle; but above all, don't sit, eat, and let the food demons take over again!!! God gave us all a second chance, and we owe Him and our loved ones the best we can be. Peace and love, and continued success! See you at 4 yrs!!!
Topic: RE: Post-op 2 years and feel as if God gave me a second chance!
Robin, I so totally agree with you. I know my surgery was ordained by God and He has allowed me to have a new way of life! I had severe complications and consider myself to be a miracle! I've lost 135# and just CANNOT seem to get under 200#. Sometimes that drives me crazy, especially when I see/hear of others *****ached "goal weight." Now I've decided that my new life is so wonderful and that the scale only reflects a "number," not the value of my life! So I'm content, knowing that I'm a different person and enjoying every day! I would appreciate it, however, if you'd tell me what your daily food intake is like. I can't say I'm working at it anymore. My biggest struggle is that I live alone so I eat out alot and never cook. When I'm home I primarily eat lots of cheese with crackers. Any ideas for me? Sheryl

That is great...I am one year out and down 135 lbs. When I reached 160, I thought, You know, If I never lose another pound I am happy where I am at...Then It stepped on the scale and it said 158..Man oh man...Then it bounces 159 160..This morning I about jumped through the ceiling...153..Get off the scale...pu**** up and down..get back on....jump up and down...make sure it is right...Yep 153... Wowza... So yes I am happy where I am, but if it goes lower, I am not going to be too upset....LOL... Hugs Cindy
    Topic: RE: TrimSpa
I took TrimSpa a few times. It works ok, but I got scared of it, cause I heard it swelled up in your stomach, so I have not taken anymore of it.
