I was smaller than I had ever been (even before having a child). I weighed 113 lbs and stayed active and took pretty good care of myself. I started to gain weight, and within 3 months, I was up to 130. I had no idea what was going on with me. By the time I turned 29, I was up to 165. I still had no idea of what was wrong. I was seeing an endocrinologist in Houston (I still see her) and she had me on diet pills and many other things that just were not helping. My blood pressure was rising, and I had developed diabetes. Her last resort was Lap Band surgery. So, in January of 2008, I had the surgery done. It was supposed to help me lose weight and get my health better because of the diabetes.
Well, 9 months later I am not happy with any of this. I now excercise way more than I ever did before. I walk for 30-40 minutes every morning before work, and then go the gym for 1 hour and 15 minutes every afternoon. I do this 5-6 days a week. And still barely any results. I totally watch what I eat and think I am following all dr's orders correctly. I am now down to 157. so, not much weight loss in 9 months, and I am very irriated and discouraged. Can anyone give me some hints as to what I need to do to see more success with this band, when can i expect to see results, what in the world do I need to do? I'm lost. |

1. I guess I am about 76 pounds down so far. I don't check the numbers as much as I used to. I still weigh myself alot at least everyday, sometimes twice a day. I still don't know if I know what works for me, as I feel I am a slow loser. I see what other people have done and think I'm slow. A friend told me I wasn't a slow loser, I was slow winner.
2. So I try to stay positive. I know the scale doesn't show how much I have lost but I can wear 14's and some 12 now, which seems weird since I think I still weigh a lot.
3. As far as difficulty, it seems to have been a fun ride so far, I would say keeping my carbs down is the most difficult I don't really crave things, I don't dump, or have foamies. I have been very very lucky and I know it and am thankful. I do bounce up and down a couple of pounds which is annoying.
4. I do enjoy working out and feel like a young healthy person again. I have been taking the kids to the beach the last several weekends and have had so much fun. I love life and am enjoying being healthy and doing things I used to do when I was kid. I bought boogie boards and have been riding the waves like a maniac. Something I never really taught my kids before since I would have never embarrassed them like that before. Now I don't care what people think.
I think I am pretty much around 900 - 1000 calories a day, still use Unjury protien and take all my vitamins like a good girl try to log in on Fit Day. Keep meaning to call the Nut and ask questions but just never get around to it. I guess that's it for my 6 months. Vacation next month and scuba diving again, one of my goals. So excited |

I have been kicking myself because I have been stalled/slowed for almost 2 months now. But overall, I am right there with everyone else.
As of my 6 month anniversary (7/7/08), I am down 69.5 lbs, 95 since my consult.
I went from an 18 to a big 6/small 8. I was 234 the day of surgery, and am sitting at 165.5. (I am tall--almost 5'11)
I really want to drop another 10-15 lbs, and end up in a slim size 6. If I go further, I won't cry but I would be satisfied to be a solid six.
However, things have very much slowed down for me. SOOOOO much of this is my fault. Bad food choices, lack of exercise, etc. I am to the point where it has stopped being easy, and I have to make good decisions every day. This is where the war is won, right? It is all the small victories along the way..... I look at each good decision as being a victory towards this overall war.
I am rambling, but it always help to restate one's goals and to bolster your motivation.
I think I need to get back on track, especially with the exercise.
In the next couple days, I am going to set down some concrete goals and work on plowing through these last 10 lbs. |
