Topic: RE: Banded in January 2008 and need some serious help

What was your starting weight when you were banded? Have you had many fills? Do you feel restriction from your band?
If you started at 165 and are now only at 157 then I would go to my surgeon and have him check your band. At almost 7 months you should have seen more of a loss if you are sticking to eating correctly and have restriction from your band.

Topic: Banded in January 2008 and need some serious help
At 27 years old, I looked and felt great. I was smaller than I had ever been (even before having a child).  I weighed 113 lbs and stayed active and took pretty good care of myself.  I started to gain weight, and within 3 months, I was up to 130.  I had no idea what was going on with me.  By the time I turned 29, I was up to 165.  I still had no idea of what was wrong. I was seeing an endocrinologist in Houston (I still see her) and she had me on diet pills and many other things that just were not helping.  My blood pressure was rising, and I had developed diabetes.  Her last resort was Lap Band surgery.  So, in January of 2008, I had the surgery done.  It was supposed to help me lose weight and get my health better because of the diabetes.
Well, 9 months later I am not happy with any of this.  I now excercise way more than I ever did before.  I walk for 30-40 minutes every morning before work, and then go the gym for 1 hour and 15 minutes every afternoon.  I do this 5-6 days a week.  And still barely any results.  I totally watch what I eat and think I am following all dr's orders correctly.  I am now down to 157.  so, not much weight loss in 9 months, and I am very irriated and discouraged.  Can anyone give me some hints as to what I need to do to see more success with this band, when can i expect to see results, what in the world do I need to do?  I'm lost.

Topic: RE: WEIGHT LOSS SO FAR??? We're at 6 months
1) Since the surgery I am down 107 pounds, since I started the journey back in October "07 I'm down 145 pounds. My highest weight was 437 pounds. 2) I can't really say that I have dumped. I have made my self throw up because something just didn't sit right on my new tummy. 3) My most difficult thing is getting in all my protein. My labs had me low again but just by a little. I do the protein shakes, not my most favorite thing, but I am getting use to them. I have been doctoring them up some and they are not so bad now. 4) The best thing is I'm more active. I have been walking more than I ever did. I even got down on the floor last night to play with my little nephew. That is one of the reasons for having the surgery, so I could play more with my niece's and nephew's.

1) I'm down 109 pounds thus far. 2.) I haven't dumped on anything yet. I can basically eat whatever I want, just in VERY small quantities, and I always eat my protein first. 3.) My most difficult thing I'm dealing with is body dysmorphia. I still see myself as the same on most days whereas everyone else says I look like a different person. 4.) The best thing is the sex. Man, I thought my sex life was good before, but now I want to shout from the rooftop after every rendezvous.

Topic: RE: WEIGHT LOSS SO FAR??? We're at 6 months
Hi guys, 1. I guess I am about 76 pounds down so far. I don't check the numbers as much as I used to. I still weigh myself alot at least everyday, sometimes twice a day. I still don't know if I know what works for me, as I feel I am a slow loser. I see what other people have done and think I'm slow. A friend told me I wasn't a slow loser, I was slow winner. 2. So I try to stay positive. I know the scale doesn't show how much I have lost but I can wear 14's and some 12 now, which seems weird since I think I still weigh a lot. 3. As far as difficulty, it seems to have been a fun ride so far, I would say keeping my carbs down is the most difficult I don't really crave things, I don't dump, or have foamies. I have been very very lucky and I know it and am thankful. I do bounce up and down a couple of pounds which is annoying. 4. I do enjoy working out and feel like a young healthy person again. I have been taking the kids to the beach the last several weekends and have had so much fun. I love life and am enjoying being healthy and doing things I used to do when I was kid. I bought boogie boards and have been riding the waves like a maniac. Something I never really taught my kids before since I would have never embarrassed them like that before. Now I don't care what people think. I think I am pretty much around 900 - 1000 calories a day, still use Unjury protien and take all my vitamins like a good girl try to log in on Fit Day. Keep meaning to call the Nut and ask questions but just never get around to it. I guess that's it for my 6 months. Vacation next month and scuba diving again, one of my goals. So excited

I had surgery on 1/28/08. So far I have lost 64 lbs. This past month I've only lost 2lbs. I am getting a little frustrated. I only eat what I am suppose to and stay away from carbs such as bread and pasta. I am walking at least 4 days a week 3-4 miles each time. I do know that some days I don't get enough fluids. It just seems like when you wait the 30/30 before and after eating you don't have enough time to do all the drinking. SO, I'll keep plugging along and hope more weight comes off. I would hate to think that this is it for me. Mary

On my 6 month surgiversary I was down 120 pounds. I was in a 36+ womens pants and I am in a 22/24. I wore a size 5x top and now I am in either an XL or just a plain ole L! I still have a little time left in the plus section but not too long! Looking foward to shopping at a regular section. I am having tons of sagging skin but what do you expect from all the weight and how long I had been huge (I was 387 at my high).

Topic: RE: When will I get enough fill?
Hey guys, Jus****ed to tell you that this is common from what I have heard from other banders. You won't feel any restrictions and then after a fill BAM! you have it. You guys also loose slower than us RNY'ers. So don't compair yourselves to us. It will only get you down. Just think Lori, Those are about 25 pounds you will never see again. And now that you are eating like an RNY'er (I still don't eat much even at 6 months out) the weight loss will increase some. Good luck to you guys.

1) I am down 126 BUT I was 346 on surgery day and 387 at my high. I was a HUGE girl. I can't even say big. 2) Lucky me has been sick for about 2 months out of the 6 (Shatzki's Ring and 2 strictures, now gall bladder surgery in a week and a half) so once I get to feeling better I feel like I am back to square one with eating. The only chicken I can eat is in soup (what I eat when the stricture is back) other than that no chicken for me. I used to live on it before surgery. Now I have to eat beef or pork. Never really liked beef before and now I love it. Good thing since I have to eat it. LOL 3) The strictures and only drinking water. I am allergic to sweetners so no Cristal Lite for me. I would almost kill for some lemonade at times, or a root beer since we have an A & W here in my town. FYI: Hay Day have you tried the 100 calorie packs of cup cakes. They are decent and under my personal dumping threash-hold. Or just one donut hole? I find when I am craving sweets if I have just a little bite I am fine. 4) SEX! Errr I mean ummm yeah sex. Fitting into smaller clothes is good too but shrinking out of them almost as soon as you buy them is not. I now have two pairs of jeans that fit. All the others are too big or just don't fit right anymore.

Hi January surgery folks, We are at our 6 month surgiversary. 1)What is your weight loss now? 2) What works for you and what doesn't? 3) What have you determined to be the most difficult part of this journey? 4) What do you enjoy since beginning the journey? For me - 1) I titter between 52-54lbs loss (I stall alot...and a slow loser..but I"m happy) 2) Don't think I"ve figured out what works yet...I'm still a work in progress. I know I dump on to many sweets, so I guess that doesn't work...as well as it works because it keeps me away from alot of things that are not good for me. 3) The most difficult part for me is the cravings for sweets and fighting the temptations. Also, accepting the new me and SEEING the new me becuase I still don't see what everyone else does. 4) What I enjoy most is that I LOVE exercising and look forward to doing it. I also enjoy fitting into smaller clothes and have OPTIONS now...lots of options. I also enjoy the way my husband tells me he's cheating on me with me...he says my body feels like a totally differnt body from 6 months ago. WHAT ABOUT YOU!!!!

As of today I am down 102 pounds. I just hit my 6 month surgiversary and the past month was my slowest so far, so I imagine it's the time where the loss slows down. :o( But I'm loving the weight I've lost. WAHOO!

Topic: RE: When will I get enough fill?
I am going for another fill on Wednesday 7/23, since I do not weigh myself it will be interesting to see how I have done. I also need to find restriction, I have managed to increase protein by having a Premier Protein Bar daily (from Costco at 30 grams/bar) and they are good. I still have problems disciplining myself to drink enough fluids. Will let you know what the situation is after Wednesday. Where do you live? Karen

hey y'all, as of today I'm down 53lbs. On surgery day I was 234lbs and wearing a size 16 or 18. Today I"m in 10's and some 8's (I even have a pair of stretch jeans and a Gap skirt in a 6..), but on the most part I"m mostly a 10. I'm a SLLLLLLOWWWWW loser. I've hit lots of stalls...but I've kicked things up a notch here in the last 3 weeks and things are going well. The most exciting thing is I;m preparing to run my first 5K in Sept. I"m on a program now that is training me so I can RUN the whole thing.. WE'll see. The training is going great though. I can not and will not complain about being a slow loser.....I am so pleased with ME RIGHT NOW. I love being able to wear tank tops, tube tops and stuff that I would've never worn in the past. Good luck to all......it sounds like we're all on course.

Now, I was told that 96.5 was too much to have lost since Oct 23rd but you lost 89 since your surgery. I do not understand. Oh, I lost prior to surgery. I was 340 at my highest! Linda

My surgery was 1/18/08 and as of today Ive lost 110 lbs. From a sz 30/32 to anywhere from a 12 to a 16 depending on where I buy from. But my loss has SLOWED big time. I thought something was wrong with me because now Im lucky to lose a few lbs in a month. I lost 90 lbs within the first 4 months and then it just got really slow. I guess I need to shake things up more. Different foods, different workouts. Congrats to everyone! Can you all believe its been SIX MONTHS??????

Topic: RE: Weight loss so far
It is nice to see so many responses from folks who had surgery around the same time. I have been kicking myself because I have been stalled/slowed for almost 2 months now. But overall, I am right there with everyone else. As of my 6 month anniversary (7/7/08), I am down 69.5 lbs, 95 since my consult. I went from an 18 to a big 6/small 8. I was 234 the day of surgery, and am sitting at 165.5. (I am tall--almost 5'11) I really want to drop another 10-15 lbs, and end up in a slim size 6. If I go further, I won't cry but I would be satisfied to be a solid six. However, things have very much slowed down for me. SOOOOO much of this is my fault. Bad food choices, lack of exercise, etc. I am to the point where it has stopped being easy, and I have to make good decisions every day. This is where the war is won, right? It is all the small victories along the way..... I look at each good decision as being a victory towards this overall war. I am rambling, but it always help to restate one's goals and to bolster your motivation. I think I need to get back on track, especially with the exercise. In the next couple days, I am going to set down some concrete goals and work on plowing through these last 10 lbs.

I was banded 2/26/08 and have lost 63 lbs. Just down 3 sized in the bottom and 2 in the top. Slow and steady but very happy with the results. I know banded pt's lose a bit slower, so I am good with that. Congrats to all of you. Your success is astounding.

Topic: RE: When will I get enough fill?
Hi again....I think I should go to a meeting again....we have them every other month.....I did go to a few a while ago but by the time everyone went around the table to tell their story, there wansn't much time left for Q&A....and I had so many questions....so I started using our local on-line support group. 100 grams of protein is a LOT....I was told 60 also so double check. It is so strange to have this restriction.....this morning, I had 2 small spoonfulls of cottage cheese...3 bites of cantaloupe and I was done....felt that pressure. I know now not to go further, or else. I had lunch with my Dad and I had 2 bites of chicken, 2 bites of potato salad and then about 6 cherries. So that is how it has been since last Thurs. I need to start drinking protein shakes to get more protein in. Now I am on my way to baby sit my Neice's 2 boys, ages 1 & 5.....and it is 93 here today......and I do not do heat well. Have a great weekend.....Lori
