I hope your endoscope went well and yielded a better understanding of what's happenning inside. I had an ulcer at the juncture of my pouch and jujenum brought on by chemo/radio. It healed over time and I used Previcid religiously.

Thoughts and prayers your way,

Keep us informed,

Dave

Diane, I haven't experienced anything like that. How did the endoscopy go? Did they discover anything? Are they giving you anything for your discomfort? It sounds like complications from your second surgery (gall bladder), but I am certainly no expert. I hope you are feeling better.. Malibu

Topic: scope follow up
Had my post-scope follow up visit with my surgeon today. I am definately eating less since my procedure. I figure it takes about 1/3 less food to fill me up. I've lost 6 pounds too since then. The doctor wants to go in and scope me again. He said it often takes 3 rounds of injections around the stoma to achieve the desired and permanent results. I'm scheduled to take another nap next Thursday (the 28th). The ulcer has been feeling better too. That prevacid is gooooood stuff. We will see how it's healing while the camera is in there too. Thats about it. I will let you know how it goes. Tim

Topic: Help!
Hi All! I haven't been on here in a very long time, but I have been back and perusing everyone's posts and profiles trying to find some answers for myself... Basically, I had my surgery in July of 2005 (GB) and it didn't go quite as planned...it was 4 hours long, a lot of bleeding (so I came home with a JP Drain). Exactly a week after the surgery I had spiked a 102 fever and had to go back into the hospital for a week. It turned out, after a ton of testing that I had contracted an infection through the drain site. Now fast forward three years later to this past May. I had been having pains in my abdomen that I thought were normal side effects of the GB and never got them checked out. Well, May 2nd I was rushed into the hospital for emergency surgery. The surgeon found adhesions, a very small internal hernia, and took my gall bladder. For about the past month I have been having severe pains in and around my belly button and up by my sternum. I have been extremely weak and tired and put on about 10 pounds. Just as of two days ago, hot and cold have been wreaking havoc on my insides. Anything I eat causes excrutiating pain on my right side, directly on my waist. The incision site from the last operation that I had (lap) on the right side of my belly button has become EXTREMELY sensitive to the touch, however I feel no significant lump to indicate hernia. There is however a small cyst like feeling way underneath my skin. I don't know if it is an abscess, the beginning of a hernia, or if I just strained myself (although as I said before I have been very lazy as I am weak and can afford to be for the summer on a teacher's schedule!) I have an endoscopy scheduled for Wednesday, and have done a ton of research, but I am at a loss. Has anyone else had anything similar to this at 3 years later? I just cry because I don't know what else to do. The Pepcid hasn't been helping. The only thing that actually feels like it is semi-effective is the Carafate, and that's not even anything to really brag about. I was told not to take it for up to 72 hours before the endoscopy. HELP! Sincerely, Diane

Lovely lady: Justin's finishing school next May with a double major in Recombinant Genetics and Chemistry. He plans to start a graduate school at the University of Kentucky the following year. The latest news is that I will probably have the feeding tube in permanently. My esophagial muscles are shot from the chemo/radio. There's a remote chance they will get better. Pray. I feel pretty good, look better, and can still get down!!! Life''s a beach and I'm on it. Dave Obama's on his way!!!

Tim: Good luck. Ulcers heal and Previcid is great stuff!!!! I've had 11 scopes, 5 within the last year (four for my severe ulcer) resulting from chemo/radio. You're right: no discomfort. Dave

Topic: Hello
How is everyone? OMG! How my life has changed in the last year! After my divorce 14 months ago...i dated 18 (yes 18) guys in six months. Finally one stuck! Ha! We have been at it for 6 months now...he's a keeper! I bought a fabulous little sports car and a house...all by mysewf! Its so perfect for me and I have been working on it for the last 3 months. It's 1380 sf...3 bed/2.5 bath in a great area. Career wise...Im still a floral designer for the rich and fabulous (unlike myself), but working on an online business. I was lucky to find a niche that had been completely untapped in the on line market. My son, Andy is almost 10! Holy Crap! Today was the first day of 4th grade...he got on the bus today...wasn't suppose to...and was missing for an hour. So now that I am sane once again and not in hysterics...I have decided not to beat him. About my weight....3 years later and all is well! Im still a size 4/5(juniors). Im in a 5 lb battle...constantly, but I never complain...it would seem ungrateful at this point. I JUST told my bf, Adam about my surgery this week. I have a bit of skin, but its not bad...not enough for him to ever question. He was surprised and very supportive. Sooo....tell me about YOU!

EGD stands for esophagogastroduodenoscopy. Basically they knock you out and stick a camera down your throat into your stomach. The doctor can check for ulcers, any leaks from your pouch into the old stomach, the size of your stoma (the opening from the pouch to the intestine) and the condition of the first part of the small intestine. The scope is also equipped with the ability to do a series of injections around the stoma to make it smaller or to stretch it if it is too small. Mine was done as an outpatient procedure. I was knocked out for about 45 minutes and spent a total of about 3 hours at the hospital. I will need to go back in about 6 weeks and have it done again to check and make sure it worked. Since you had a lap band I don't know if getting scoped would do you any good. You might just need a fill to tighten your band. You need to consult with your doctor.

Topic: Hello Everybody!
I need some help! I had surgery 3 years ago. I reached my goal about a year ago and then had a problem and had to empty my band completely. Since then I have done horrible and do not seem to find the strengh to keep on going. I gained 25 pounds while I had my empty band. Now I think I have good restriction but I do not follow the rules. I drink water while eating, I do not make good choices, I do not exercise. So in sumary I doing terrible and have been at 160 pounds for months when I need to be 140. I have not been in this site for months, but I am back asking for some help to motivate me and use my tool. I have an appointment with the doctor next week to get a bit more of liquid in. But I know I am the problem now and not the band. The band is not magic. Any suggestions? Please help me, I do not want to get back to my original weight. I know that little by little I can let go and be back then at 210 pounds. Thanks for listening, I will post more oftern and try to get involved again. I think that my help.

The liquid and soft food diet I am on now is only because of the injections I recieved to shrink my stoma. If my doctor had not done that, I would be on regular food. The only pre procedure dietary restriction I had was no food or water after midnight the night before.

Topic: RE: getting scoped
I had my 3 yr ck up last Thurs. Since my 2 yr ck up I have gained 32 lbs. The good news is that I am still in an acceptable BMI range but I am scared to death of gaining ALL this weight back. I have to have a scope done Aug. 8th myself to see if I've streched my stoma. He never said anything to me about a liquid diet or soft food diet though. HMM? Did you have to go on a liquid diet BEFORE the procedure too or just after? I feel like I am hungry all the time and do not get full like I used to. I am HOPING this IS the problem and that it can be fixed with a few injections but I also know it's partly MY fault for not exercising enough, not always making the best food choices and I drink far to much wine. At my lowest I was 135 at 5'9 everyone was telling me I looked far to think and gaunt. I'd like to get back to at least 150 though. Good luck to you. I'll be curious to know how you progress. Becky
