Topic: RE: Marathon time??
the idea of doing a marathon for me is just crazy still, I just did a 5k last saturday in flint michigan i was so proud of myself to do it in under an hour that was huge for me, but if you think you could do it id talk to your dr and go for it.
personally with the 5k i found myselt very dehyrated after the event and spent most of the day attempting to get re-hydrated it was hard but soo worth it!!

Wow were like twins!!  I was 362 also, i have lost down to 230, i have seen 229 but it was only for a day i think, the stal has been very frustrating and i know our window is suppose to be 18 months but man months 8 (to a lesser extent) 9 and 10 have been harder....
I am glad to hear that i am not alone thought
I am going to work hard on my water i think that might be an issue i know im getting 80 to 100 g of protein a day.

I don't have any advice to offer you, but I wanted to say Wow to you for even being in a place where you can consider doing a marathon.  I tried to train for a 5k a while back and decided that I don't like to run, so I gave it up.  I walk a lot now, but I can't imagine ever being able to run a marathon.  Good for you and good luck!

Topic: Marathon time??
Hi all, I never thought that I would ever be able to contemplate running an endurance event like a marathon.  However, with the weight loss this last year and my new love for working out, I am thinking about what is the next challenge for me.  I have the opportunity to train for a marathon that would happen January 2009 (I have only done 5Ks so far).  I am  going to talk to my doctor about possible nutritional implications because of this - is my body capable of bringing in enough nutrients/calories to sustain running and a training regimen? What are the complications that might arise?

So, September friends - What are your thoughts about this? Does anyone have any literature they can site about bariatric patients and endurance events? Thanks for any help you can pass along.

Topic: RE: OKAY MY SEPTEMBER BABIES...WE ARE 10 MONTHS OUT!
I was just checking in to see how everyone is doing. On my 11 month weigh-in, I have lost 200lbs. Nicki, I know how you are feeling. I had only a 10lb weight loss last month. I have been able to eat more and when it came time to weigh in this month, I was actually afraid. I was nervous about not losing or even worse, gaining. I did lose 20lbs this month, but I didn't feel it. People kept telling me that they were seeing it but I wasn't. Stalls happen and as long as you are following your plan, protein first, getting in your fluid, no grazing, you will start losing again. For the longest time, I didn't tell anyone about my surgery. I was so scared of failing and having everyone know that I failed even after having the surgery. You are not alone in how you feel. I'm glad you went on medication to help you with your depression. Is there any chance that your meds could be slowing down your metabolism, thus slowing down your weight loss? You may want to check with your doctor.

Thanks for responding. You really sound like you know what you are talking about!!!!!! I saw my surgeon yesterday and he told me exactly what you said that it could possibly be the internal hernias. He said he would like to do expoloratory surgery also...I just don't have insurance right now. So I have to wait until sept. You were so on the money and I thank you for your response. I am 10mos. Out and down 114lbs. The info you gave was so exact. Thanks a million. I am back at work today after 6day out. I am feeling a lot better. Thanks for your support. Tomicko

Topic: RE: SEVERE PAIN AND BURNING IN THE ABDOMEN
I had a few episodes of severe abdominal pain too. I had to have an exploratory laparoscopy (yes, more surgery) and the surgeon found that I had 2 internal hernias (sometimes called Peterson's defects) and some adhesions that needed to be removed. Unfortunately, these hernias do NOT show up on CT-scans, the only way to properly diagnose them is with a laparoscopy. The good news (yes, these is some) is that the doc used my existing incision sites from my RNY, so I wound up with no extra scars. Also, I have not had the pain since, so it was all worth it in the end. You might want to ask your doctor if this is what it could be. They are caused by the rapid weight loss, and usually ocurr between 8 and 12 months out and 80 -120 lbs lost. Good luck. Hope you feel better soon. Hugs, Lisa

I think it is the amount of time we are out. I guess the honeymoon is over and it is now up to us to really work it. My weight loss has slowed down a lot as well. I miss the early out days when it seemed I just had to breathe to lose weight!

Failure is NOT an option for the September babies, honey ;). We ALL will stall at some point during the honeymoon phase..it happens..our bodies need the time to adjust to the rapid change in weight. Its dramatic....give yourself time...and you will start to move again.

I am in a stall as well so i understand how you fell. at my las vist i only lost 22 pounds and I have not lost anything since my last visit but I did loose a lot of inches and i find that people make more comments about how much I have lost when the scale is not moving compare to when the scale is moving. stalls are going to happen and can be so frustrating. I only weigh myself once a month on my anniversary date. I didn't lose as much last month as I wanted, and I don't think this month was a great loss but won't know until the 10th. Just double check you are following the program your doctor advises you to, get in your fluids. I also have a difficult time with exercising, but you can try doing exercises while laying down in bed. Try leg lifts and arm lifts. Although I don't feel like I've lost weight this month, people are telling me they see a difference. So I am thinking I may be losing fat, but building muscles so my scale isn't going down in numbers.

Topic: stalled weight loss
ok for the last three months my weight loss has been very minimal, I still eat the same, I really have not been able to excercise from a bad disability, cant walk long or stand, or lift. I started out on September 25, 2007 at 322lbs, i am currently at 205lbs, I have not lost any weight in the last month, and it is killing me, I want to be below that 200 mark, and I do not know what I need to do, or if this is it, if this is as low as I go, i am worried, someone please help, thank you

Topic: SEVERE PAIN AND BURNING IN THE ABDOMEN
I am having severe abdominal pain. I had lap RNY on sept. 24, 2007. It all started last Thursday. It lasted for a few hours. Then it happended fri, and sat. On Sunday night it woke me up from my sleep. It has been constant ever since Sunday night. I feel a terrible burning sensation in my stomach right under the breast in the middle. It is tender to the touch and very bloated. I feel nauseaus and very miserable. The burning sensation is the worse. I don't have my gall bladder and when I went to the er on Tuesday night they did a ct scan with contrast and found that everything looked okay except for the fact that my small bowel looked a little enlarged. I can't eat or drink anything. I have no appetite and when I do eat the pain becomes worse. All of my blood work came back normal. I don't know what to do!!!! Has anyone else experience these symptoms. I feel like someone has been kicking me in the stomach!! MY GI DR. TOLD ME TO TAKE PRILOSEC OTC 40 MG DAILY AND THAT HASN'T WORKED.

I eat JackLinks - Buffalo or Regular Jerky. You normally can find it at Wal-marts or Chevron Stations.

Hi everyone! I am down 133 pounds and currently weight 152, only 2 pounds from goal!!! I originally was a 24/26 but now wear a size 10 pants and a size medium top. My bra size has gone from a 46DD to a 36D, still hanging on (and I use the term "hanging" literally!!) to a D!! I feel wonderful!! Now for the bad: On June 3, I had an exploratory laparoscopy to repair 2 internal hernias and remove some adhesions! That was not fun, but the episodes of pain I had from the hernias was worse! Also, I am having a slight problem with my pre-albumin level. (The prealbumin test is used to help your doctor diagnose problems with your nutrition. Prealbumin most often is used to help doctors diagnose protein-calorie malnutrition.) I eat 90% protein, so cannot figure out the problem. The doctor has encouraged me to have one protein shake (here we go again!!) a day for the next month and then will repeat the bloodwork. He is hoping that I will absorb more protein if it is in a liquid form. That being said, I would have this surgery again in a New York second!! It is the best thing I have ever done! I haven't felt so great in a very long time! Hugs to all, Lisa
