I was at 362 on surgery day and I am down to 235 and my loss in the past month has slowed as well. I wanted to be down to 200 lbs by my anniversary (9/7/08) but it's not going to happen. We just have to be positive about what we have lost and try harder to follow our program. I've been assured that our honeymoon period is not over yet. It should last 18 to 24 months, not 10/11 months. I think my whole problem is not enough protein and water and too much carbs right now. God knows I am getting plenty of exercise. In fact, our problem could be that we are still losing fat, but starting to gain muscle to replace the fat. It weighs more and may in fact make us think that things are in a stall when in reality our bodies are still changing and clothes are still getting looser. Keep your chin up and remember, that we are still much better off than where we were. Cheers. Wow were like twins!! I was 362 also, i have lost down to 230, i have seen 229 but it was only for a day i think, the stal has been very frustrating and i know our window is suppose to be 18 months but man months 8 (to a lesser extent) 9 and 10 have been harder....
I am glad to hear that i am not alone thought
I am going to work hard on my water i think that might be an issue i know im getting 80 to 100 g of protein a day. Highest 362/Surgery 341/Dr.Goal 175/MyGoal155
Goal: by September 11, 2008 (Surgiversary!)

Hi all, I never thought that I would ever be able to contemplate running an endurance event like a marathon. However, with the weight loss this last year and my new love for working out, I am thinking about what is the next challenge for me. I have the opportunity to train for a marathon that would happen January 2009 (I have only done 5Ks so far). I am going to talk to my doctor about possible nutritional implications because of this - is my body capable of bringing in enough nutrients/calories to sustain running and a training regimen? What are the complications that might arise?
So, September friends - What are your thoughts about this? Does anyone have any literature they can site about bariatric patients and endurance events? Thanks for any help you can pass along.

Nicki, I know how you are feeling. I had only a 10lb weight loss last month. I have been able to eat more and when it came time to weigh in this month, I was actually afraid. I was nervous about not losing or even worse, gaining. I did lose 20lbs this month, but I didn't feel it. People kept telling me that they were seeing it but I wasn't. Stalls happen and as long as you are following your plan, protein first, getting in your fluid, no grazing, you will start losing again. For the longest time, I didn't tell anyone about my surgery. I was so scared of failing and having everyone know that I failed even after having the surgery. You are not alone in how you feel. I'm glad you went on medication to help you with your depression. Is there any chance that your meds could be slowing down your metabolism, thus slowing down your weight loss? You may want to check with your doctor. |

I had to have an exploratory laparoscopy (yes, more surgery) and the surgeon found that I had 2 internal hernias (sometimes called Peterson's defects) and some adhesions that needed to be removed. Unfortunately, these hernias do NOT show up on CT-scans, the only way to properly diagnose them is with a laparoscopy. The good news (yes, these is some) is that the doc used my existing incision sites from my RNY, so I wound up with no extra scars. Also, I have not had the pain since, so it was all worth it in the end.
You might want to ask your doctor if this is what it could be. They are caused by the rapid weight loss, and usually ocurr between 8 and 12 months out and 80 -120 lbs lost.
Good luck. Hope you feel better soon.
Hugs,
