I am 5 months post op and feel nauseous sometimes if I eat too fast or too much. I guess I am still learning how to eat. I am also loosing a lot of hair....I am scared to wash my hair and worry I am not going to have any left. It definitely is a little shocking to see the handfuls!
    Topic: RE: Protein and liquids
My nurse at the WW clinic told me to have a small cup of coffee 5 days post op as I had not had a bowel movement. I was surprised she said this as we are not suppose to have caffeine for two weeks. She said the small amount wouldn't hurt and would get things moving....she was right! It did the trick and I haven't had a problem since. I am 5 months post op and have not had a problem and am regular every day and do not take anything!
Topic: RE: So frustrated with Weight Wise appt today!
I have no problemjng with allowing others to do the follow up if they have read my file and know what is going in.  If I'm following up they should at least know what surgery I have had.

I don't really appreciate your comment. It seems to imply that me or others wanting to see our surgeon after surgery is holding you up from having surgery.  We all want surgery fast. But I did the work, made the lifestyle changes and was given this incredible tool to maintain my lifestyle change.  After working so hard, I feel that I was entitled to see my surgeon for the follow up appointment they booked for me.

Everyone at the clinic has been great.  As far as the diabetes, Dr. Birch is the one who stopped all of medication and I have been following up with my Gp.  I absolutely understand that you need to be your own advocate however I was frustrated when the fellow came in to discuss my surgery and did not know my medical history or the issues that came up during my surgery. He had to leave the room to discuss with Dr. Birch.  That is what I was frustrated at.  Also my nurse, psychologist and psychiatrist have all left for various reasons so I wasnt able to express my concerns with them.
Topic: RE: So frustrated with Weight Wise appt today!
I had bypass with Dr.Birch on June 12 and was suppose to have a 3 week follow up appointment after surgery.  It was cancelled because he was away.  Today I went for my follow up (2 months after).  After waiting 2 hours, another doctor came in who said he was a new fellow working with Dr. Birch.  He was very quick and I asked him if he was there during my surgery.  He replied that he had just started.  He told me to keep doing what I was doing and then got up to leave.  On the way out by the door he asked oh your not diabetic are you?  I replied I was and had been taken off my medication and wanted to talk to Dr. Birch about it.  He said oh your good come see him in 3 months!

I am very angry that I waited 2 hours to not see Dr. Birch.  I wanted my follow up appointment with him and since my nurse is no longer there, I fel cheated. Not to mention they sent someone in who did not even read my file!

    Anyone have any advice?
Topic: RE: Awesome store in Edmonton
     Hi there!

I had bypass on June 12, and I have been struggling with getting in my liquids etc.  I just went to this store called Sweet Tweets in Edmonton.  The entire store is filled with sugar free and low carb products.  I was able to get a bunch of different drink mixes as well as reduced sugar Heinz ketchup, low carb High protein cereal, Davinci sugar free syrups and much more.  I highly recommend it and will definitely be going back!
Topic: RE: how often does the Edmonton WW do surgery?
I just has surgery with Dr. birch 2 weeks ago.  I am unable to have my 3 week follow up with him as he has the entire month of July off. I was told he is not doing surgeries in July either.
    Topic: RE: Dr.Karmali
It took me 3 months from meeting surgeon to surgery.  I just had the bypass 10 days ago with Dr. Birch. I have heard that things slow down over the summer with vacations etc.  hang in there, the waiting is tough!

Topic: RE: Vitamins... How to take.

    Topic: RE: Got Approval
I met with Dr Birch on March 20,2012 and am having surgery on June 12,2012.  Exactly 3 months!  What kind of surgery are you having?  Do you have to do a liquid diet?
Topic: RE: Got My Date... Happy Dance
I'm having Rny on June 12 with Dr. Birch.  I was told that I can't have coffee for 2 weeks after because it is hard on the tummy when healing.  My nurse knows how much I love coffee so she told me to slow it down before hand so it won't be so hard to go cold turkey!
Topic: RE: Back home after RNY
I am so glad to hear you are at home and resting. I Kept checking this last week for any updates and was concerned when you had not posted.  I am sorry it was such a long haul for you and hope things have turned a corner in your recovery!  If you need anyone to talk to just message me.  I have not had surgery yet so can't speak from experience but can lend a listening ear.  Take care and keep us posted
Topic: RE: the wait is over - I have a date -May 15th

Topic: RE: the wait is over - I have a date -May 15th
Oh I'm jealous that you got a cancellation.  I have my PAC the day before.  I was told hospital stay was 2 nights.  Best of luck!
Topic: RE: god this waiting ( for a surgery date ) is killing me
I saw Dr. birch on March 12 and just got my surgery date 2 weeks ago.  It is on June 12. I have not got a call about the PAC clinic, but have heard it is 2 weeks before surgery.  I do know that surgeries only happen on Tuesdays and that Dr. Birch only has every other Tuesday.  Lorraine also mentioned that he would be missing one of his days due to the long weekend or something in May.

    Hope that helps!
Topic: RE: Waiting for the call....
Hi niki. I recognize you!  Great to catch up with you on here!  I finally called Lorraine this morning and explained my situation and I got my date of June 12!!,  so excited but it seems so far away!
Topic: RE: Waiting for the call....
Is killing me!  I was approved for surgery with Dr. Birch on March 12,2012.    At that time he told me surgery would be quick between 4-6 weeks.  It is so hard to schedule life and child care ( my daughter is disabled and does not walk so my in laws are coming from out of province) when I don't have a date.

Is anyone else dealing with this anxiety?
Topic: RE: Prepping for surgery tomorrow.....
Good luck to you!  I will also have surgery with Dr Birch in a few weeks. I really liked him when I met him and am confident in his abilities.

Let us know how you are doing post op.  I hope the next few days go as smoothe and pain free as possible for you!

Topic: RE: Advise on Surgery Type-Band or sleeve
Dr birch talked about the lack of long term research on the sleeve and if anything happened down the road you had virtually no stomach.  He also thought bypass was better for me because of my type 2 diabetes and hypertension.
    Topic: RE: RNY Question
Question after surgery when you wake up in the hospital do you have any tubes, drains or catheters in.  I am getting some anxiety so want to know what to expect. Thank you!
Topic: RE: Advise on Surgery Type-Band or sleeve
I saw Dr Birch today and went in wanting the sleeve. He seemed to think bypass was a better option for me.  I want to loose between 80-100 pounds. It seemed to me that he favours either the band or bypass. I do have type 2 diabetes so agree that maybe bypass is the way to go.  I'm a little overwhelmed but he says 4-6 weeks until surgery
Topic: RE: Waiting for Surgery Date
Hi there!  I'm right behind you and wondering the same thing. I see Dr Birch on Monday and am approved for surgery. I seem to only think about surgery these days.  I have a disabled toddler and have to have the in laws come and help so just want to know.

    What surgery are you getting?
