Don't forget Medicine Hat does surgeries too. I think it's quite a long wait though.

I am going to look more into the Edmonton program too. The surgeon figures I am a good candidate for surgery but I likely won't make the cut this time around (they only have funding for 25 surgeries this go around). The surgeon said to make sure to sign up for the Calgary program again next time but it's frustrating when they have so few surgeries to "award".

You have the same attitude I have - if they say no to me I am going to keep doing what is working right now and try again next session!

Hopefully the newly elected government will reinstate the funding they promised to the Calgary program!

Sorry to hear that Kellie! I meet with the surgeon this week but don't have my hopes up given how few surgeries they have funding for. Maybe I'll see you in the next round of classes!
Topic: RE: Living Well Calgary Programs question
Hi. At the Calgary Weight Management Session we were handed out a program brochure for the Chronic Disease Management program whichis now the Living Well Calgary Program. For any of you in Calgary I'm just wondering what classes did you take and which ones did you find helpful?

    Thanks in advance!

I agree with you about wanting to be able to do things with my kids as they get older. I bought a bike a few years ago (I never learned to ride as a kid!) and my huband taught me to ride it. I'm still not super confident in traffic but I like riding it. I bought a bike that was better built for my size. I think I embarrassed the poor sales guy asking him things like weight limits etc but I wanted to make sure it wasn't going to fail me.

I had no idea Houston was on a 10 fattest cities list. I always think of the obesity epidemic as being equally Canadian and American but you're right there are a lot less buffets and smaller portions in restaurants here (although we're still eating too many calories I know).

I am equally guilty of driving everywhere. I think it's more because I want to "hide" in my vehicle than an aversion to walking!

Did you have a chance to call that Chronic Disease Management Program that they gave us the handout on? I tried looking up the website on the handout and it's a broken link. I'm going to call and get more information on it and where the exercise classes are offered etc. I think the more effort I put in to the things that they direct us towards the more likely they will be to select me for surgery.

Are people in Texas not as active as the outdoor lifestyle loving Calgarians? I know a lot of people who like to do the outdoor stuff and sometimes it's hard being left behind because of my size but it's always been the norm to me.

I hope so too! But regardless I think the program will be a step in the right direction! If you need a buddy through it, I'd be interested. I think more support will be helpful!

Hey Kellie, I just wanted to say good luck! I might see you at the Thursday group once or twice. I signed up for Group 2 but looking at hubby's schedule I think I will be bouncing around.
