Topic: RE: Update - 3 months post op... - Also have a vitamin question!

Its been 3 months since my surgery and after the ulcers (getting better for sure) eating and drinking still a bit of a struggle but not like before... I also don't have to see the nurses for my dressing changes as I my wounds are now healed. I can say the only thing I'm needing to work on is my energy and to get my vitamins in me. Does anyone know if there is liquid vitamins or chewable for prenatal This was what is recommended by the dietician.

I also went to see the doctor this week  and got the ok to go back to work... woohoo! and the fun part no one has seen me since before surgery and with a weight loss of 50 lbs it could be an interesting entrance lol! I'm actually excited to go back to work I'm sooo bored at home now..

    Topic: RE: the new life

My advice to you is take it one day at a time. You will have your ups and downs but as you become healthier. it makes; it all worth while. This is about you getting healthier and when your healthy the people around you will see your energy and your positiveness.

It might also help to speak with a professional to help with your insecurities. I had the RNY revision surgery and as part of it I had to see a psychologist as part of the process to make sure I was making the right decision. I have my moments but in the long run I know my health is the reason why I went through this and I can save so much money on smaller size clothes.. I have gone down 2 sizes. I find this forum to be helpful and gives some support. Good luck and always remember you are an incredible woman, wife and mother as you have made the best decision you can to become healthy!!

    Topic: RE: Dehydration.
It is so important to get your fluids in... even having soup helps. I feel for you. I was a huge water drinker and then started having issues with naseau. I ended up having an ulcer and it caused a lot of issues... just the taste of water made me ill. I ended up in the hospital 3 times.. Just one day at a time and drink whatever you can get down.I take sips whenever I can.

    Topic: RE: Health food store
Wow, I never knew of this website. i just checked it out and am thinking it will work for me. I'm constantly trying to see what foods to buy. thanks for the website.

Topic: RE: Nauseous feels like I'm pregnant tastebuds are not the same
I ended up back in the hospital for 8days. I had an infection (part of the reason with the nausia) other part is because I have a small ulcer. I'm now back at home and hopefully I will be on the mends again.
I made chicken noodle soup and I added more chicken. for more protein. thanks for your input it helps so much.
yes I have tried the milo, its not bad.

Topic: RE: Nauseous feels like I'm pregnant tastebuds are not the same
Thank you to all of your suggestions... I'm going to work on it and see what is going to work for this tummy. I have weighed myself and i'm at a stand still not loosing anything and not sure why..
I'm frustrated with that... but also realize I need to gather my positive thoughts again... they slipped away somewhere I'm sure of it... but will work hard at finding it..
I love getting the feed back it gives me the courage to get what I need and do it. So with that I love this forum to help me figure out why and how to change my habits. and to learn new tools..
Thank you to all of you for your support, It is helpful to know I can share and get feedback with others who have gone through the same things.

Topic: RE: Nauseous feels like I'm pregnant tastebuds are not the same

Thank you, I appreciate it... I'm good for now. My gf came and took me to the store and I picked up what I needed.
I will keep you in mind if I run into problems if I need to get to the store.
thank you again for your kindness!

Topic: RE: Nauseous feels like I'm pregnant tastebuds are not the same
Thank you so much for your input... it definetly helps I will note what to do. I know I get about a 1/4cup - 1/2cup of food but closer to the 1/4cup of food. I am not rushing at eating all different foods but working a bit at a time. I am eating soup mostly cause I it goes down and have no issues to eat it.other then the last couple of days. I did get some gravel and so hopefully that will help so I can get my food intake.and get rid of the nausiation I feel.
i did get some turkey, chicken and tuna so hopefully I can eat that.. I plan on having the tuna with crackers... which I love.. I also go some ensure with the high protein content, so that will help with the intake as well
I can't thank you enough I really appreciate your input to what I can try and what to watch for.
    thanks again
oh and no I don't have have a nick name for my tummy as of yet but will come up with something...
Topic: RE: Nauseous feels like I'm pregnant tastebuds are not the same

She said about 75-84grams of protein a day. I'm to start introducing all foods into my diet but its all a struggle..
I try but I throw it up. I try everything I can but it helps to get the advice of others going through the same.. I am 3 weeks post op so it really scares me... the dietician did say it could last up to a month... ugh... it's like being pregnant all over again... NOT fun for sure! but will take your advise and go from there... thank you again this is all helpful for sure.

Topic: RE: Nauseous feels like I'm pregnant tastebuds are not the same
Thank you I have tried it and it's not bad... but because I can't drive and no one around to take me to the store I'm stuck with the crystal light... which I like... but I truly feel like I did with pregnancy nausiation (i know its spelled wrong but i think you get it) lol
just a cup of tea makes me gag...
A friend is coming by and I am going to get some gravol and hopefully... that will work
Its hard to cause I can't drive and I'm a ways from the store so I can't just walk there it sucks...
I feel good though that I can chat with others like yourself to get ideas and because we are all going or will be going through the same types of surgeries and share our ups and downs...
So thank you for replying and I will get someMIO and try it again...
    have a super day!

Topic: RE: Nauseous feels like I'm pregnant tastebuds are not the same

Does anyone share that they have trouble with their tastebuds... I can't even handle drinking water. I am struggling with some of my foods and even to take my vitamins. I can't stand the taste of water have to put something in it but that doesn't help ither. I phoned the revision clinic and spoke to the dietician and she said that there has been a few people who have experienced the same thing... and it should last about a month... ugh!  Even trying to get my protein drinks down are tough.. and we know how important it is to have protein...
If you have experienced this what have you done to get through it...

Topic: RE: Had a set back ugh!
I am so happy, I'm back on track with the recovery. The fluid that is coming out and the healing is amazing.
I'm also a little sad my parents left for home today and I can't thank them enough for all their help. I'm definetly going to miss them.

your right family and friends are a huge part of the recovery and I also appreciate sharing with people on obesityhelp as others who are going through the same thing can respond or share what they have gone through and I look at others as they maybe experincing the same thing and so by sharing we learn.

thanks again to all the inspirations are so helpful!

Topic: RE: Had a set back ugh!
thank you, I'm not sure what happened I've been taking care of myself and my parents have been such a help. It just all of sudden on Monday had some fluid build up. But things are good now. sorry its kinda gross but the gas build up is what I'm dealing with. It's like a stabing pain but I'm working my way through it.
Tonight I had some crackers and cheese and so far staying down. lots of natural fibre so hopefully things will start moving... I know its kinda gross to talk about but as we all know it is just part of this process... I'm pretty open to say what I have gone through so I hopefully can help anyone going through the same things with their journey.
Thats why I like this forum so I can share and read others ups and downs.
Thank you again and I am taking care of myself.
    Have a super day!

    Alvina
I had my stomach stapled 20yrs ago and after 11yrs my weight came back on and my health issues became more and more problematic.
Fort Sask is right by Sherwood Park east of Edmonton 10 min drive.
that's great that your not having to do the preop liquid diet.
the protien drink I get through Amway and so you have to order it.
When we get an opportunity to meet I can give you a sample to try.
    Where do you live?

Topic: RE: Looking for a weight loss buddy
    Good morning Alvina
I had my surgery done through Dr. deGara at the Royal Alex on July 24th. mine was a revision surgery. I didn't have to do the pre op liquid other then the day before and the wonderful best of all Magnesium drink... yummy... NOT lol
I found a protein drink that I love and each glass gives you 25grams of protein. it's through Amyway and I got the vanilla icecream and I add frozen peaches as it mushes up and 1percent milk and it is soooo good...
I have a nurse who comes everyday to change my bandages and I am healing really nice. the gas and bowels need to be worked with but its coming...
I am just so excited at my progress
we can stay in touch and when you go in (where you going in and whose doing your surgery?) How are you finding your preop liquid diet?
I look forward to hearing from you
    have a fantastic day!

    Hi there everyone ,
I live in Fort Saskatchewan and am looking for a weight loss buddy to chat with and share the ups and downs... (mostly ups emotionally, and downs with weight)...
I am 10 days post op and feeling a bit lonely, even though I am an up beat woman sitting at home recovering its boring and would just love to be able to find someone who is going through this journey as well to share...

Topic: RE: Out of province surgery...follow up?
Good morning I just had a revision RNY through the revision clinic. They are a fantastic group of professionals and I would suggest calling them and they can answer your questions. It's always the best to get the answers directly. Also, if  you contact Alberta Health Services they may also be able to direct you in the right direction. and finally once you have your family doctor in place let them know what you are needing and they will be able to refer you in the right direction.

good luck and have a fantastic day!

Topic: RE: Seeing Dr DeGara....anyone else see him
Thank you, I had the Roux-en-Y revision and so this is my second go around. I knew what to expect well sort of it's been 20yrs. I believe in the Secret and have really worked hard on using the teachings to being posititve and knowing that with a surgery it takes time and lots of rest. So now I'm at home, resting and making sure to get my liquids in...
Topic: RE: Seeing Dr DeGara....anyone else see him
I had my surgery July 24th, and got home yesterday. Dr. DeGara was fantastic with me. and so greatful for the opportunity to have him as my surgeon. He went on holidays but his surgical team was fantastic when they came to see me in the hospital. The nurses were fantastic and overall it has been a super experience.
