I had my Gastric Sleeve done in San Antonio, Texas 12-14-2010 by Dr. Rajajoshawalla. In January 2010 I was at 300lb, Day of surgery 219 (5 ft tall) and today I'm at 125 lb. It did run with hospital about $40,000.00. I can say this has worked for me other than developing a body image issue with all my loose skin..think I should keep the skin as a reminder.

yeah i heard tricare was pretty easy, but anita at the office said today that there is some new loops i have to go through to deal with tricare which was very discouraging, and whats more frustrating is that she now said that she assumes that i need to do a 6 month weight loss program in order to get the approval of surgery so i shall go tomorrow to tricare at BACH and figure out what i need to do?  it seems like a long road to go down, hopefully it will be worth it..

Dr Searles is great, but he has no bedside maner what so ever, and no after-care program at all.  I just winged it and did fine without his help!  I had surgery (lapband) in 08' at 250 pounds and a size 22, these days I'm about 115 pounds and a size 0!!  He is easy to work with and will tell you just what to do, and the hoops you have to jump thru for TriCare are minimal, the hardest part is the Psych Eval and finding someone local to actually DO it!

i am seriously considering flying to mexico and having the surgery done by dr alvarez.  due to insurance probably not covering this procedue because it's "so new".  but i definately am partial to have the sleeve over the lapbad or gastic bypass.  good luck in your journey!

Topic: RE: Newbie and debating RNY or Lap Band

Hi, I am finally scheduled for surgery, October 25, 2011, So I will be leaving Alaska on October 23,2011. I am going to California for my Surgery. Dr. Alan Wittgrove is doing my surgery.

Ohh, one good thing, is  I did get approved for my leave, I just need to fill out some forms for FMLA.

In the mean time, my food will consist of  Protien Meal  Replacement shake and Lean cuisines or a low calorie, ie.. chicken and veggies. I still need to buy the meal stuff. I should be on it by the 2nd week of August, 2011. I was told this helps your liver get ready for surgery.

Would be fun to meet some of you. I do work at night.

I'm scared and nervous but not about the surgery.  3 days of my husband being in charge of cleaning and cooking scares me lol.  I told my son I will make and freeze 10 days worth of food that he can heat up for him and his sister.  My husband is a grill master but that's about it and he can make some awesome scrambled eggs lol.

I am also really glad I decided on RNY.  I feel better about it everyday.  I've heard nothing but great things about Dr. Searles and I love his staff.  They have been so helpful and informative!!  Congrats on your weightloss!!

congratulations !!! you are in GREAT hands !!! Dr. Searles is awesome. I'm glad you didn't go for the lap band- so much contraversy over that, besides it does not work that well.  Good for you !!!!

Topic: The Sleeve
I am just getting started and am interested in the sleeve.  Has anyone in the area had this procedure?  If so, which surgeon did you use?  It doesn't seem like we have a huge selection and I would like to know if anyone would recommend flying outside to have the surgery?

Thanks!

Topic: Insurance Tips
I am just starting my journey and need help with how to best deal with the insurance company.  My BMI is 36 and my insurance says it has to be 40 or above 35 with 2 health problems attributed to weight.  Has anyone else gotten through the process with a lower BMI?

Thanks!
