As far as I know, and this could have changed, Gibbs doesn't require pre or postoperative meetings, but he does suggest it

We have a FB page for the support group folks called Deminishing Returns. I'll invite you to the group after you add me as a friend. It is more active than the OH page, but nothing like it used to be.
Hope you're doing we'll!

Topic: RE: Does anyone here in Arkansas have lipedema? Not lymphedema...
Jeannie, sorry you're having troubles. Not sure I know the difference between the two conditions. I'm hoping by now you've found someone to treat you.

I'll try to check in more often....but if you'd like to join our Face Book group Diminishing Returns, send me a friend request.....Susan Estes Higgins and I'll get you in.
It's a closed group, so only invited members see our posts. Nice group, too!

Golly, I"m so, sorry you've been left adrift for so long!  This site used to be so active but since FaceBook took over the planet, well, you know how it goes. Everyone is there and not here.

What type of products are you looking for?  Let me know and I'll try to steer you in the right direction. There are things around town, but you have to know where to look, and I have a ton of online resources, too.

Our support group is in a bit of disarray, but hopefully all will be worked out before the next scheduled meeting on Nov 8th.  I used to be the leader of the group, and that's part of what is happening, so let me know what I can do.

we have a facebook page called Deminishing Returns that is a closed group, meaning it's by invitation and no one but the members see the posts. Very nice to have a way to communicate without the whole world chiming in!
Friend me on FB.....Susan Estes Higgins and I'll get you in.
We'll support each other by hook or by crook!

 hey, stranger!!!

No, this board has pretty much died, and the meetings in Little Rock are on life support :(

Lauren retired and no one seems to know what to do with any of us, pre OR post op.  It's just a stinking mess.

Do you do FaceBook?  We have a closed group (nothing is seen on the regular FB pages) that we'd love you have more people join. Send me a friend request....Susan Estes Higgins, and I'll get you in.

If you want to send me a PM, maybe I can help.

personally, IMO, I think you might be getting TOO much protein.  Two protein scoops, two protein bars plus your meals could put you into the danger zone.  JMHO

Topic: RE: Dead forum?
Yeah, Mark I agree about the FB thing. Things were pretty active here before FB became the really big deal, now most folks spend their computer time there with family and friends. Sadly, it's usually the family and friends who help us get to the point of needing surgery, right????  LOL

Anyway, it's a shame that all of our experiences can't help out folks if we're not here. I think I check in about once a month now.  :(

Topic: RE: Dead forum?
HI there,

This used to be such a great and active board, but, sadly it just isn't that way anymore. I'm almost 5 yrs post op (Dr Gibbs), and relied on info that this board had for me so much, I don't know what I would have done without it.
I know that some folks who are years out like me, have "moved on", meaning we pretty much have our acts together now and are enjoying life as we should.....eating right, exercising and enjoying the second chance at life that WLS gave us.

Some, unfortunately, have fallen by the wayside because they didn't do as well as they (or their doctors) expected, or they have regained weight. It's embarrassing and heartbreaking for them, and those of us here!  We don't judge, but it's hard to come to a place where everyone is excited about losing weight and either admit you've gotten yourself into a bad situation.

Then there are some folks who I've spoken to who don't like the fact that some of the doctor's offices seem to use this forum to advertise their practices. I haven't noticed it much myself, but some have and have commented to me about it.

For whatever reason people are missing, I hope that maybe we can get things going again. There ARE lots of WLS patients out there, I know because I see the pre-ops every month at Baptist. So, maybe if some of you get and keep the ball rolling, we can make this an active board again. I'll try to do my part!

Topic: RE: any surgeries at UAMS
I don't believe UAMS does bariatrics, but I've been known to be wrong. Baptist in Little Rock is the closest Center of Excellence in Bariatrics to you.....pretty sure. I'll do some checking for you.

6:00 Thursday, March 10 at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock. Come meet and greet other WLS friends here in Central AR.

Dr Ed Love (my new BFF!) will be speaking about plastic surgery after weight loss. He's a great guy!

CALIFORNIA??????  We moved here almost 6 years ago from San Diego County!!!  Where were you from?

There are a few of us who meet occasionally at either the 'Bucks in Maumelle or on Rodney Parham. So sorry this board is so dead now, it used to be hoppin!

Maybe we can get this moving again. You're so very right, we ALL need support, and the farther out you go, the more you really need it...IMHO.

Topic: RE: OT: May relocate to your state, tell all!
Hi Kathy,

I live in Central AR, just outside of Little Rock. We moved here almost 6 years ago from San Diego....what a change! But....it's one we would do again in a heart beat.

Housing is certainly less expensive, gas is usually about thirty cents cheaper per gallon than what my family pays at home. Tornado season is no fun, and they can get some pretty impressive snow falls in the NW corner of the state, but you're from IL, so that shouldn't bother you. The scenery is beautiful, shopping isn't as great as home, but then, we don't spend $$ like we used to.

We don't regret moving here, and some of our family members would come here too if they weren't upside down in their mortgages.  We got out of CA just before the fall of the real estate market.

People are very friendly and have been super nice to us while we were learning our way around. The culture is different than CA, but that was expected and is generally warm and hospitible. Every where you go you'll find someone who doesn't want "strangers" moving into their areas, so when we run into those types we just ignore them. Mostly people wonder why we came here from such a beautiful place and I remind them that AR is just as beautiful as where we lived in San Diego(away from the coast).

Good luck!

Topic: RE: NO MEETING AT BAPTIST THURSDAY NIGHT
Isn't Dr Love great??? I adore him and his staff.

I'm doing well, I'm four weeks out yesterday, back to work( well, when it's not snowing!) and feeling fine. The arms werent as tough as some people said they'd be, but what a difference.

Good luck!  We'll compare scars in March. Dr Love will have his own little cheer squad.

I'm waiting confirmation from Lauren, but I'm pretty certain the meeting will be canceled because of the weather.

I'll post tomorrow when I hear from her.

Dr Love will come next month, and maybe I'll be less puffy from my TT!!!
