Topic: NSAID question. Need your opinion please
Over the past 10 years, I had been taking 1600 to 2400 mg of ibuprofen a day for my joint pain and fibromyalgia - all without any stomach problems. Prior to surgery I had to have an endoscopy to see if there was any damage and there wasn’t any. Since two weeks before surgery (10/18/04) I have been off the ibuprofen and have been told that I cannot take it due to potential stomach bleeding/ulcers etc. I have been in miserable pain the last few months. I had high hopes that the knee/joint pain would subside after surgery and having lost 70 pounds. But without the med, it just got worse. I have tried Tylenol, Vicodin, Tylenol with Codeine and it doesn’t help. Two days ago I went ahead and took my 800 mg ibuprofen in the morning and one at night. Today I feel almost normal! Its amazing. I can walk without each step being so painful and will be able to really exercise harder. My primary care physician, an internist, said he has other WLS patients who are able to take the ibuprofen “now and then” for pain. Since my pouch is still a tiny part of my original stomach, am I crazy to think that it won’t hurt to use the meds again? Have any of you gone back to ibuprofen occasionally? You can be brutally honest.
