Good morning and hello!

I had VSG surgery through S SF Kaiser 8 months today actually and currently am down 91.8 lbs.  (30-40 lbs from goal).  I live in Vallejo with my two furbabies.

This will be the journey of a lifetime, and enjoy the ride!!

If I get a chcocolate craving - I will have the real thing (moderation) to kill the craving (usually split it with a friend or co worker that way I wont eat the whole thing)

It is just one of those things I will not keep around me normally.

Hang in there but enjoy!

Topic: 8 month surgiversary - checking in
Well today will mark my 8 months out, and 91.8 lbs down.  Life has tended to get in the way - as it sometimes does, but I am still plugging along.

I have become a "mentor" of sorts to those at work who have decided to proceed with VSG surgery.

I just keep reminding them - be kind to yourself because beating yourself up over something will only drag you down.  Chin up and keep looking forward to a new healthier you!

Happy Wednesday Cali board!!

I go for the real stuff...Mainline that thing.  I will grab some semi sweet chocolate chips from the freezer!!  Just a small hand full...I don't dump.  I have found I want better quality chips...cocoa about 60-70%.  A lot of store brands are coming up short in the quality now for their chips...cheating (skimping on ingredients).  Brian

I think I have to see the psych to see if I qualify for the process? I'm not sure. The whole thing is confusing.

Topic: RE: Kaiser Fremont question?

Hello!

I went through the orientation, meeting surgeon, dietician and Nancy.  Next step is pysch eval but that can't be scheduled until I am at 3-5 lbs of goal weight before surgery (20%).  I hear there is a 6 week waiting list for pysch and surgery is a waiting list for like June or July :-(

How did you get the pysch so quickly?  I know people waitng for a month or so and they are at goal before surgery weight.

Topic: RE: Hello New Here-Kaiser Fremont

Fremont process for me recently....
I went through the first overview meeting...then, the "meet surgeon", dietician, and then Nancy/the scheduler.

Nancy/scheduler has said to me an 3 other friends that they are 6 weeks out for pysch evaluation.

The pysch eval is only scheduled when you are within 3-5 lbs of your 10% weight loss before surgery.

The surgery is out until June/July as of last week.

Topic: RE: Lindora
I did Lindora twice when I lived in California. It worked. It was expensive. I gained the weight back both times in less time than it took me to lose it. The B12 shots left lumps in my "cheeks"...lol. One of the hardest things for me was having to go in all the time, fighting traffic, scheduling things around it weekly, etc... it felt all consuming and somewhat isolating. Good luck to you.

I was in the overview also on Friday. Did you get your psych evaluate scheduled already? I am so confused by this whole process.

Topic: RE: Kaiser Fremont question?
It was an overview class. It just gave group of people information on the different options to us. After the class I called my pcp and she made the referral to the bariatrics dept. I want to start the 1200 calorie diet now but I'm afraid they won't approve me. I am almost a 42 bmi but I also have sleep apnea, pre diabetic, osteoarthritis. So I don't know?

Do orientation do you mean the group class?
You should definetely starting losing weight now. They don't go by measurements, just your weight.

I have my first psych eval on May 22. I did the overview last friday. Does everyone have to have the psych eval before going to orientation? Another question I have is if I should start losing weight now or wait till my first appt with the psychologst? I had a weight check on Saturday but no measurements. Thanks--Lisa

I'm 12 days out and when I was first home I was bloaty and swollen , try gas x and walk a lot.
The SF shouldn't make a difference , at least it didn't to me.
I have mostly had soups and SF popcycles and refried beans and salsa blended with milk , added FAGE yogurt

Topic: RE: Iron or Ferrous Sulfate tablets
How much iron you need and how much is too much is comletely individual. 50-100 mg is what they tell normies. But, if you aren't absorbing the iron out of your food or out of your supplements, then you need more. Some people with RnY and DS, because of having no or little duodenium, take massive amounts of iron and STILL need iron infusions because it's not enough.

Of course, you shouldn't be taking iron willy-nilly just because some else does and the doses they do too. You take it based on your labs, working with your doctor.

Chewable iron is available from many places besides Wellese also. Bariatric Advantage and Celebrate both sell it. So there are plenty of sources for people to try and pick the one that works best for them.

Topic: support group meeting in San Jose
Our support group will meet on Wednesday, April 18, from 6-8 pm in the Theater Building of Hoover Junior High School (or maybe it's a middle school, I can never remember) at 1635 Park Ave., San Jose, 95126. The group is sponsored by Pacific Laparoscopy and is oriented towards the DS, but patients with other operations, patients of other practices, and people still exploring their wls options are very welcome. Your support person is welcome as well.
If you are at all interested in learning more about the duodenal switch, the most effective wls for percentage excess weight loss, for maintainence of that weight loss, and for resolution of almost all comorbidities, come join us. It's a great way to learn more about this operation from people who live with it. It's a small, friendly group. There is no fee and no committment involved.

Any questions? Feel free to send me a pm.

Larra

Topic: RE: 4 days post op
Hi Stephanie,

Congrats on getting the surgery. I am 3.5 months post op. Right after surgery (I was banded) I was very bloaty but not a great deal of pain (more like I'd done 200 situps). Walking helped. I walked around the house a lot and I also walked outside twice a day, 20 minutes at a time and longer as tolerated. That really helped.

Are you having pain with the burping? Don't use straw, small sips, etc. Call you dr. Monday and just run it by them, they may have tips and tricks for you.
