1). Has any one had RNY under Kaiser? What was the experience? Who was the surgeon?
2). I have a 30% co-pay. Any ideas wabout how much the costs of surgery is under Kaiser?
Thanks so Much. Any information would be helpful. I'm hoping to have surgery the end of this year.

I am having RNY gastric bypass surgery... I was initially interested in lapband surgery, but my Dr was not as enthused about it as gastric bypas surgery. I've been reading many things about both surgeries, and I'm happy w/ the decision that I've made to have the gastric bypass surgery.
I am still waiting to hear from my surgeons office to schedule my surgery date... and I'm just so ready at this point to begin this journey. I know it will not be an easy one, but I feel in my heart that it is one that will improve my quality of life.
I appreciate your response. Thank you very much for your feedback.

I had surgery Jan 31st of this year with Dr. Johnell and I am so glad I did. Everybody, and I do mean everybody, in that office I have the utmost respect for. They are caring and professional and will answer any question any time and I truly believe they are the reason I have loved my band so far. Also their post-op support is great!
Good luck to you!

I had rny with Dr. Johnell on July 10th this year. Dr. Johnell and his staff are really great. I have had a couple complications but they were unforseeable ones.
I had to be flight for lifed to greeley for emergency hernia surgery and dr. Johnell was in the emergency room at 10pm waiting for me, that impressed me greatly.. I think they are all wonderful.
Your lap band will go beautifully!! GL with your journey! Becky Highest: 274 Initial Dr. Visit 263.1 Goal: 145 Pre-op:249 |

I lost lots of weight initially then at about 2 years post op got pregnant and had a baby. Following the pregnancy and now being a mother I have gained back about 80 lbs from my lowest weight. I am really frustrated!!!! I did make an appointment to follow up with Dr. Snyder but would like some support in the mean time. I don't even know if anyone else this far out still comes here but I thought I would try.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

This is probably all over the site, but I'll simplify things by posting here as opposed to the Main Board. If there really is a problem, I'm sure the OH staff will get to the bottom of it. :)
Anyhow...With my last two posts, I've had submit it TWICE in order for it appear on the boards. I know I'm not on moderated status as I would be told as much. Yet for some odd reason, I'm having to click the BACK button of my browser (Fortunately it didn't lose anything I said AND I copied it to the Windows clipboard as a backup) and then click SUBMIT again.
There's NO double-posting. Just the original. Really weird.
Is it just me who's encountering this or has anyone else had this same problem?
Just figured someone @ OH should know if there really is a problem....
Cheers :)
BTW....This only seems to happen when posting replies. Not when posting new messages. Really weird.... |

A couple of questions...Does your boyfriend know EXACTLY what he's getting himself into? Does he know this isn't some cool nifty way to become a "macho man"?
You'd be surprised at the number of guys who think that.
If your boyfriend is amongst those who see getting a Lap Band as a way to become a "macho man", he'd better think things through and more clearly BEFORE searching for a surgeon.
Just my $.02 worth....

Just a little blog posting feedback....
Could you PLEASE avoid posting as though the text is supposed to the fine print legalese in a contract? Using PARAGRAPHS makes it easier to read. :)
Again...Just a little blog posting feedback....

I've met w/ Dr Bordelon once, and I will have my second consultation w/ him in about a week or so. He seemed to be very kind and patient. I liked him, and it is nice to know that others have the same opinion.
Did you have any complications w/ your surgery... or after? Do you have any words of wisdom or advice?
I just had my Psych Eval this morning, and it went really well. It was very informative. I was given several websites that will aid in my post surgery life, and I'm looking forward to spending time learning as much as I can from each of them.
I can't wait to finally have the surgery. It looks like you are doing really well, and that is very encouraging and motivating.
Once again... thank you for responding. I'm sure you'll be hearing more from me in the future :)

I'd also poke around on Yahoo! Groups and just type in the word BARIATRIC as the keyword. That should bring up a whole list of discussion groups which you can join to get even MORE useful information (Just be wary of the source though).
In addition, I'd Google for some WLS blogs as many of us are blogging our journey either via text or video (YouTube is a GREAT place to find video. Again just enter the words BARIATRIC SURGERY in the search box and you'll see a bunch of videos on the subject. But again, be wary of the source).
When I say "be wary of the source", I mean don't treat what person says as gospel as YOUR MILEAGE MAY (And most likely will) VARY. Therefore your results may (And most likely will) be different. So consult your doctor first before believing ANYTHING we say as being "truthful" (Anybody here who claims what they say here is THE ABSOLUTE fact has no business whatsoever posting here as chances are what they're saying is most likely not true to begin with).
BTW Jewell, which procedure are you having?
Whichever one it is....Good luck with it.
