Is it ok to take colace (stool softener) on a regular daily basis?

I've just discovered a probiotic called "Pearls"  which are tiny pills taken once daily.  I am pre op and don't have issues normally, but I have noticed easier movements and less gas than I normally have.

Thanks, I will look into those too.  I've never seen those.  Where do you find them?

I got them at wal mart.  They claim to be acidophilus and like having the effect of the yogurt without eating it.

I'm and RNY and I take them everyday.  In fact it's recommended.   Not sure about after the revision.  Hmmmm, good question, I guess I should ask Dr. H!  I didn't know he told his patients NOT to take iron, before his post the other day saying that!

I wish his program would give us some info BEFORE surgery...like WEEKS before, not the day before....HINT HINT...  especially for his out of town/state patients. (For stuff we don't KNOW to ask)

Oh yeah!  Generic for sure!  Colace is like $21 a bottle!!!

I definitely get the generic in all my meds...no sense in paying extra for the same thing.
Can you give me the thread where Dr. H talks about the iron.  I'm very interested in that.

Thanks

I do. Twice a day, one in the am, one in the pm. Did this pre-op as well.

Stool softeners, like Colace, are okay to use daily, as far as I'm concerned. Laxatives, like dulcolax or milk of magnesia, etc... are not recommended for daily use. The sheer volume of BM generated by malabsorption makes it wise to find a way to keep our stool soft!
