The reason you're off NSAIDs right now is because they're blood thinners---most surgeons want you off them for 10-14 days before surgery of ANY kind. I had to be off them for 2 weeks before I had a colonoscopy!

But after you've fully healed from a DS (or a Sleeve), you can take NSAIDs, with no more risk than you had pre-op. (NSAIDs do have some risks for ANYONE.) I would not be able to function with out my Aleve!

If a person not hiding behind the Internet spoke to me the way she did, well let's just say I wouldn't be so nice.

Cover my ears and not hear what? I saw plenty of people say how she helped them. Good for them. I am glad some people were helped. All I saw---and I read a **** ton of posts---was a controlling, ill tempered shrew bent on being queen bee of the duodenal switch. (add in the fact that the dsfacts.com site is heavily peppered with her and her input. That in of itself is highly suspicious.) Which, frankly, aside from the band-wagoners on this particular part of OH, has yet to prove to me to be the gold standard of anything. I am still researching this. Hence, why I started poking around the DS boards to gain some insight. None to be found, I am afraid, unless I kissed her ass and followed her like a sheep. No thank you.

Her postings were filled with derogatory rhetoric and generally made me, or anyone else who dared to ask a question, feel like an ignorant moron for daring to ask.  Ridiculous.

I initially tried to go over to the other site thinking that people had finally had enough of her, only to find out she had been banned from here. Good! I for one reported her several months ago for bullying. I read her bull**** story that smacks of Stephen King on a bender as to why all whatever happened. Oh my God, who the hell cares??? There is more to life than he said/she said on a damn Internet board!!! Get a ******g life.

Well, I hope that clears up whether or not I heard her. Yes, I heard a ***** try and tell me what she thought. And not as a helpful friend or someone who has been there. NO, it was a do as I say or suffer the consequences dictatorship of Queen of all that is Duodenal Switch!

I tried to be nice, but when someone is as cruel as she and markets it as "help", well then I guess Dr. Mengele was helpful too. I am done being nice. To hell with this particular part of OH. For every bad apple over here, there are dozens of good and caring people on OH. I just have to keep reminding myself of that.
Diana hurt your feelings. I get that. We ALL get that. That's not the point.

To quote your words, again, you said I am so glad she is gone as her acid posts kept me away from some valuable information here.

It's not as if Diana alone was offering you this info. You could have blocked Diana and never been troubled by her again, and you could have gotten the same basic information from lots of other people here, and on other websites as well.

You covered your ears and refused to hear the message, because you didn't like the messenger. The responsibility for that lies solidly on YOU, no one else.

I think you should choose the RNY as your revision surgery, because I don't think you're capable of doing the sort of life-long self-advocacy the DS demands. I'm not saying you're too stupid to do it, because I suspect you're smarter than you act. I just don't think you're emotionally ready to separate the message from the messenger, to hear and accept the hard truths.

Sorry things didn't work out well for you with your VSG, and I hope you'll do better with your RNY---but remember, it WILL be your last shot at a successful WLS. Once they convert your Sleeve into a pouch, there will be no going back.

I couldn't walk that far pre-op, LOL! But as soon as I got out of bed and started walking the hallways, I could walk about as far as I was able to do before surgery, not that that was very far.

I cross post here and on the VSG boards because I am gearing up to revise my surgery.

What the heck happened here?

I did some reading and found they banned a frequent poster on the DS board. I have to be honest, I am so glad she is gone as her acid posts kept me away from some valuable information here. So I am not sorry about that happening. But what is up with the whole moderator free enviornment flipping the script and going Nazi?

Thanks for the input :)

I really don't understand how this happens. Just how did someone's acid posts keerp you away from info that's available all over the Web?

Nope, I think you just chose to cover your ears and say "I can't HEAR you..."

If you had your Switch in '04, you're almost SEVEN years out! I was 8 years post-op on the 11th of this month. So far, everything's been wonderful.

A lot of the vets are over on the new site---you might want to check it out. www.weightlosssurgery.  proboards.  com.

(I'm not allowed to post an actual link here.)

Ham, turkey with sausage dressing, standing rib roast, scalloped potatoes, green beans cooked in bacon grease, duck, deviled eggs, eggnog, cheesecake, BACON.

Sorry---I just slobbered on my keyboard...

Unless you have 30 or 40 grand laying around, you are going to need to go through the process

Not quite true. It's quite cost-effective to go outside the US---last I heard, you could get a DS done with a world-class surgeon in Brazil for about $16K, everything included.

I urge you to check out the link in Cbramsey's post, just above yours. There are people on that new board who can, and will, help you fight your insurance company.

Nope, that one's from the LAST time Diana was "banned for life".  Someone resurected it.

As for the current bruhaha---threads keep disappearing and re-appearing and then re-disappearing---gotta read FAST to keep up with this one...

Certainly---just don't say anything in it you wouldn't want a moderator to read.

She's been "banned for life" and threatened with legal action if she even tries to open a new account under a different user-name.

Topic: RE: Question for those that had an open DS

My DS was open, and about 18 months later I had a lap hernia repair. There wasn't much difference in the post-op pain.

There's no WAY having to have my Ds done open would ever be a deal-breaker for me.

My fingers, of all places! About ten days post-op I laced my fingers together and things fell wrong somehow---and I realized I'd lost weight there!

Topic: RE: HELP...........I REALLY WANT TO KNOW

I chose it for myself, then I consulted with a surgeon who offered all forms of WLS. He agreed that the DS was the best 'fit' for my medical problems and my SSMO.

I've had NO complications specific to the DS. I did develop an incisional hernia, due most likely to having an open procedure and having a HUGE hanging belly pulling on that incision. And I had a bowel obstruction when I was 7.5 YEARS post-op, so I don't think the DS contributed significantly to that.

I'm maintaining a loss of 170 pounds, and I eat pretty much whatever I want, in the quantities I want. This does NOT mean that I'm eating in the quantities I was pre-op---I still have significant restriction, but what I can eat I find more satisfying that I did the enormous quantities that failed to fill me up pre-op. I do eat protein-first, but that's the way I LIKE to eat. (Pass the bacon, please!)

There are no foods that I have problems with, IN MODERATION. A few things, like pasta, when eaten in excess give me gas. I guess the one thing that I can't actually enjoy as much of as I'd like to are grilled veggies. I LOVE onions, green peppers, and cauliflower marinated in Italin dressing, then grilled over an open flame. I can eat them, and pretty much all of them I want, ONCE. But if I eat the left-overs again the next day---I suffer for it. Doesn't mean I don't DO it sometimes, but I know and accept the consequences. (And I plan on staying home the next day!)

Restroom habits---I poop twice, nearly every day. This happens within the first hour after I get up, usually. In 8 years I have pooped in a public restroom MAYBE five times---in other words, about as frequently as I did pre-op.

I am living a far MORE normal liffestyle now than I did for many years pre-op.

Topic: RE: Paula Deen is a DSer's dream cook!

I call bull**** on Dreamfield's claim of 'magical powers'. It's the ONLY pasta that always, without fail, no matter how little of it I eat, gives me horrible gas.

But all pasta goes through a molecular change when cooled and reheated. Makes it more fart-ogenetic, somehow. When I make my own pasta at home (ravioli, generally) I can eat it till the cows come home without gas problems.

Instructions for Stress Diet
BREAKFAST:
1/2 grapefruit
1 slice whole wheat toast
8 oz. skim milk

LUNCH:
4 oz. lean broiled chicken breast
1 cup steamed spinach
1 cup herb tea
1 Oreo cookie

MID-AFTERNOON SNACK:
The rest of Oreos in the package
2 pints Rocky Road ice cream, nuts, cherries and whipped cream
1 jar hot fudge sauce

DINNER:
2 loaves garlic bread
4 cans or 1 large pitcher Coke
1 large sausage, mushroom and cheese pizza
3 Snickers bars

LATE EVENING NEWS:
Entire frozen Sara Lee cheesecake (eaten directly from freezer)

RULES FOR THIS DIET:

1. If you eat something and no one sees you eat it, it has no calories.

2. If you drink a diet soda with a candy bar, the diet soda cancels out the calories in the candy bar.

3. When you eat with someone else, calories don't count if you do not eat more than they do.

4. Food used for medicinal purposes NEVER counts, such as hot chocolate, brandy, toast and Sara Lee Cheesecake.

5. If you fatten up everyone else around you, then you look thinner.

6. Movie related foods do not have additional calories because they are part of the entertainment package and not part of one's personal fuel. (Examples: Milk Duds, buttered popcorn, Junior Mints, Red Hots and Tootsie Rolls.)

7. Cookie pieces contain no calories. The process of breaking causes calorie leakage.

8. Things licked off knives and spoons have no calories if you are in the process of preparing something.

9. Foods that have the same color have the same number of calories. (Examples: spinach and pistachio ice cream; mushrooms and mashed potatoes.)

10. Chocolate is a universal color and may be substituted for any other food color.

11. Anything consumed while standing has no calories. This is due to gravity and the density of the caloric mass.

12. Anything consumed from someone else's plate has no calories since the calories rightfully belong to the other person and will cling to his/her plate. (We ALL know how calories like to cling!)

When I started reading this, I wondered "What the **** is this fool talking about?". Then I read more, and started laughing. By the time I reached the end, I was snorting tea through my nose.

THANKS!!! I needed that.

Topic: RE: Things you never dreamed would annoy you

I never realized how much my mother could annoy me.

When I was SMO, I just...ignored her. Back then, nearly everything she said was about my weight, and I had developed a pretty good shield about those comments. Yes, from time to time she said 'sort of' compliments---like "Your face is so pretty" and "If you lost some weight you'd be..."

I'm now 8 years post-op and 'normal' to everyone BUT my mother. She still views me with a critical eye. She can't really say anything about my weight---I've lost 170 and she's gained 50---but she STILL finds ways to criticize my lifestyle. I eat too much fat (not so!), too much meat (not so!), too much...whatever. (I'm still losing weight, she's gaining. WTF???)

I live for long soaky-baths. I run my tub half-full of HO****er, then wait a half-hour to get in and run some MORE ho****er. I can easily spend an hour in the bath.

Hiro is afraid of the bath---he stinks, and gets a weekly bath after I'm finished. Does Bear bathe? Inside, I mean?
