Topic: 4 years and 4 months after surgery
Hi Everyone,
Been 4 years and 4 months, still about 230 pounds, down from 354. See it does work!
I used to be a regular visitor to this forum but has been several years since my last visit.
Just wanted to say Hi. Don't ever give up.

Topic: Hi!!
Just a quick note to say Hi to everyone. I am still alive. My lowest weight to date has been 177 but am back up to 200, not worried about it though because the Dr. said I would gain some back after bottoming out. Haven't been getting quite enough exercise either. Got some today - been out 4 times to clean steps and blow off our parking area, our son's parking area and even did the neighbors parking area. Still adjusting to living in the mobile home. Still unpacking stuff and finding the right place for everything. Have the outside table and chairs to move yet and then everything is here. Just letting everybody know that might be interested. Lester

One year is Oct 06 ;176 pounds later; has been a long road but well worth it. I am healthier, no more diabetic medicine, no bi-pap machine to sleep with, more energy, more active, better attitude most of the time. I used to get out of bed, go to the living room and lay on the couch, got up to use restroom or get something to eat and back to the couch watching tv and then back to bed. Not even enough energy to go to the local Walmart store and too much foot pain to walk through the store. Now I have no problems going shopping or walking short distances (I have neuropathy in my feet which the weight loss has helped some but it will never go away.) My wife Carol had told me about a co-worker that had the RNY done and the results she had and I got curious as a way to get my life back. That is how I got to the surgery. The diabetic medication I was on caused weight gain which meant an increase in the medication which meant more weight gain, etc. This has been a life saver for me because I was a walking heart attack and/or stroke waiting to happen. My PCP is very happy with where I am at now with my health. Also to Andrea; don't care for chocolate but I do love my Mike & Ike candies. This is a tool that works if you work with it. Appreciate everybodies encouragement since I found this site. Especially Andrea! Thank You to everyone. Lester

Grew our own habaneros this year - found some plants locally and gave it a shot. A guy here in town also grew some and tossed them our way. I do my own drying and grinding to make the dry mix. No written recipe - just a mix of dried/ground peppers, tomatos, onions, cucumbers, green beans. The mix is good - control the heat by the amount of habaneros mixed in. If you want to try something really good, I always loved red hot cinnamos as a kid- find a good cinnamon flavored hard candy recipe (if you dont' have one I can send you a copy of mine), take a teaspoon of dried/ground habaneros, sifted, and add to the candy. Makes a killer cinnamon candy. Everybody that likes the HOT really likes the candy. I just use a basic salsa recipe and add the habanero to my taste. I also make a fruit salsa (without the habaneros) that is really good on scrambled eggs. Lester

Thanks for the reply. Doing pretty good. One year anniversary on the 6th of October. Maintaining between 177-185 pounds. Feel 150% better than I did a year ago. Don't know why I can eat such spicey food now when I couldn't before but I don't mind it because I think the spice helps rev up the metabolism. Don't know what med problems you mean. How have you been doing? We have been so busy lately that we haven't had much time or energy to get on the computer. Trying to get house fixed up a little more so we can get it refinanced - looks like it is going to happen finally. Lester

Topic: Question for the group
I was wondering if anybody else has developed a 'hot' tooth since their WLS. I eat a lot of really HOT spiced foods - as in Habenero peppers. I make a lot of salsa with Habenero peppers, have even made a hard candy with Habenero in it. Stuff so hot that nobody else can eat it. I couldn't eat anything over mild salsa from the store before the surgery. I have a quart canning jar in the kitchen about half full that has about 70 dried and ground habanero peppers in it. The last time I made salsa with it, I used 1 1/2 teaspoons of the powder to about 2 quarts of salsa and it was too hot for anybody else to eat but was fine for me if not just a little too tame!! Have even eaten a whole raw Habanero pepper and then gave wife Carol a big wet kiss - she complained about it for half an hour (Carol says 'I didn't appreciate it either-ha ha"). So have anybody else have a HOT tooth?? Lester

I am still maintaining. Need to get more bike riding in - have been real busy lately and not getting much in. Still going between 177-185 pounds. One goal is to reduce the amount of 'Mike & Ike' candy that I eat - the only treat I allow myself but eat way too many. Lester

Hi, Well, my only goal for me at this time is to maintain my current weight (and stay away from Mike & Ike candy). I am jumping around between 177-180. I will keep doing my bike riding. Been working on our house - put up window trim (6) this past weekend and replaced bedroom doors (2) that our kids busted up years ago. Trying to re-finance at this point. Carol pulled out the the living/dining room carpeting- was more holes than carpet. Now have hardwood floor. Keep up all the hard work everybody. Lester 354/180/180

Topic: RE: 8/23/04 ROLL CALL and goals
I have done good and am going to the surgeons on Wednesday to see how to stop the weight loss since I am below my goal of 180 - weighing in at 178 now. Riding my bike almost every nite for exercise. Don't spend hardly any time in front of the TV anymore. Carol ha**** the 90 pound loss as of Sunday morn. Together we have lost 266 pounds - unreal. We figure by the time we are done we will have lost someone that weighed the same as Carol when she was released from the hospital after her surgery (329). No real goals except to keep doing what I/we have been doing so far. We wish good thoughts to everyone else on this journey. Lester & Carol P.S. To everyone that reads this - see this tool does work. Just one step at a time and the journey is soon over. Lester

Thanks for the replies from everybody. 1. do you exercise? If so, will you continue to do so as often to maintain? Yes, We both exercise - we do a couple laps around town which is about 3 miles on our bicycles, try for everyday but don't always. No, I/we don't plan to change anything at this point especially since Carol is still losing. Might throw in some type of weight training also but I have to be careful due to arthiritis in shoulder with a torn rotator cuff. 2. What will you change now to stay at the same weight and not lose anymore? I will be making an appointment to go talk to surgeon about that very thing - he has said there are ways to work around the surgery to stop the weight loss but not to regain it. 3. Carol, great job on the 85 pounds. How much more weight do you want to lose? I am aiming for around 150 so that is about 95 more pounds - yicks! I had a revision surgery done 5 months ago tomorrow. I will see my surgeon on Tuesday - have to go more often than most patients because there was a 'rather large hernia' that was repaired. Also the loss is slower for me because of it being the second time around but I am totally ecstatic with the loss so far. 4. renewing your vows - Our first 'wedding' was very very small although in a church, had about 10 guests whi*****luded our 3 children. This time I am having a wedding dress-been working my tush off trying to get it done plus the 4 bridesmaid dresses. Already got vest made for the guys. Been burning up the old sewing machine for the last couple of monthes. My first dress was just a fancy dress which I still have (of course). Gotta a lot to get done this week. I think I could have picked an easier dress-like a ready made ha, ha. If anybody would like to attend it is at 4:00 pm on the 21st at the Martelle United Methodist Church in Martelle, Ia. Again, thanks for the replies from everybody. Lester & Carol

Am going to try to stay around the weight I am currently. Gonna try to lose a little more but not much. A lot more energy, also the Mrs. is down 80 1/2 pounds since the revision surgery done on 3-15-04. Thanks for the concern for her too. (Actually 'her' is typing this for him. Topic: WLS Story
Hi, Just had to share this little story. I had purchased a pair of jeans last week that were labeled size 34, the size I have been wearing for the last couple of weeks (the size 36 were/are getting too baggy). I put thme on Sunday morning for church and wondered why the jeans felt a little tighter than they should. Out of curiosity I checked the inside label and....the jeans were actually a size 32 and I could wear them. Quite a big deal from prior to surgery when I was wearing a size 50 stretch jean that was getting too tight. One little question: has anybody else had a rise in blood pressure since surgery? Had no problem before surgery but now am running in the pre-hypertension range. Thanks for any replys. Lester
