I don't understand as Medicare does not approve the VSG as either a standalone surgery or as a 1st surgery to be followed by a 2nd surgery for the switch. As you had this done in '08, you are fortunate. Since 2011, UC is not accepting medicare for DS. I'm told that this is because UC has encounted Illinois Regional Medicare's refusal to pay for a DS surgery that is interrupted for complications. Medicare reclassified the interrupted surgery as a VSG and refused to pay.

I'm from Chgo, but have to look elsewhere for a DS, and I'm left wondering that should my DS be terminated due to a complication, will Medicare refuse payment and leave the cost to me to pay.

Dr. Jay Salimath Methodist Weight Loss and Surgery Center 900 Main St  Peoria, IL 309-671-7764 Dr. Salimath and his staff are very friendly and great to work with. He accepts medicaid and medicare for all surgeries. You do have to pay for the exercise specialist and nutritionist, a one tome fee of $400 that is not refundable. I am awaiting approval, but the wait has been long since I am going for the sleeve. Here is the web address :http://www.mymethodist.net/services/weightloss/index.aspx Kelley

Dr. Jay Salimath and the Methodist Weight Loss and Surgery Center turned me down.  They said I was too large and the were not equipped to perform the operation on me.  They actually referred me to Peoria Surgical Group.

Phone number  (773) 834-8360

Facility Center  University of Chicago Hospital - Surgical Treatment of Obesity

Address  Center for Advanced Medicine 5758 S. Maryland Avenue Chicago, IL 60637 Website http://www.uchospitals.edu/physicians/vivek-prachand.html I just got my date about 2 weeks ago and just came back from signing all the consent forms and last minutes things in Chicago--300 mile trip from Mascoutah, IL near Scott Air Force Base. I don't think I would care how far I'd have to travel as long as they accepted my insurance (Medicaid at the current moment.) The staff there is helpful and is willing to answer ANY AND ALL questions that you may have. I had a few bumps on the way but everything is looking really good for my surgery on the 6th of June. I don't know whether to laugh, cry, or jump for joy...that's what nerves'll get ya. If anyone has any questions, feel free to contact me here or at [email protected]. Remember, we are all here with a common goal in mind and we should support one another through this life-changing experience! GOOD LUCK ALL!
