Yup Chicken is the worst for me...give me Pork, shrimp or steak....If I eat chicken, it has to be dark meat covered in a gravy or SF BBQ sauce or something...

Topic: RE: Anyone with Anthem Insurance??

As of Feb. this year, Anthem did away with any supervised weight loss requirement. I had a friend speed up her surgery by 4 months because of that. Other, than that, you just have to do the intial consul, psych eval., and proof of 3 years of medical history. That is thru St. Vincents  Bariatric. I've heard that IU makes you do more things. But, with St. V, there is no required pre-surgery weight loss or diet. Anthem is probably one of the easiet now. Thank God!!! I wish that it had been that easy when I was going thru the process last year. I had to do 6 months of supervised WL.

Actually I have had just the opposite experience. Have you gone to the initial meeting where you met with the surgeon afterwards? I did that June 5th. I took what paperwork I had with me and I called them later that week. They said they didn't have the file yet so I called the first part of the next week. I guess I bugged them right off enough they knew I wasn't going to stop. I had to do the drug test and that was all. So as of the 18th my paperwork was submitted to medicaid. Just waiting to hear now. You should call his office and ask for Jennifer specifically she does all that. And keep calling till you speak with her. Express your frustration in a calm manner and I'm sure she will do all she can to help the process along for you. Keep your chin up!

I have Dr. Huse as well. I just spoke to Jennifer in his office and she sent my stuff in yesterday. Has yours been submitted yet? I'm wondering how soon too. They say 2-4 wks.
Topic: RE: indiana medicaid
As long as you have done the 6 months supervised weight loss, and have all of your records including 5 year weight history, I was approved in 2 days.
Topic: Quick Question
Does anyone know if the insurance Pan America covers WLS or not?

Topic: RE: Kami Shaw-PAC-Meridian Surgical Group-MAJOR dissappointment

I would send a letter...by certified mail...to Dr. Evanson, the practice manager, St. V's Board of Directors, CEO and anybody else in authority you can think of that I haven't mentioned.

These professionals ( of course, the one you speak of is anything but), need to be trained that there is a psychological component that goes along with bariatric treatment, and that many of us have endured bad treatment from those in the medical profession, much less society in general.

The primary reason I stopped going to St. V's support groups was because of one dietitian in particular. I haven't seen her in quite some time, so perhaps she's gone.

Thank God I only have a year and a half left of these treks to Carmel! I could use the money on a new outfit!

Remember, Kami is a physician's assistant, which means she has someone to answer to - make sure that happens!

I have seen Kami in the past, but I have never had that kind of experience with her. There is a dietitian there that I lock horns with on a regular basis, since she keeps counseling me like a RNY, but other than that, no problems at St. V's. I'm almost done with the five year follow-up that Dr. Inman required of me, so right now, I'm trying to make sure my PCP is ready to assume management of my case once the twice yearly trips to St. V's are over. I'm assuming my stats are being used for a study, since my BMI was >50 when I had my DS. I know others who have had this procedure with Dr. Inman, and they were not required to do a five year follow-up. It could also be because I have autoimmune co-morbidities.

The DS is *THE*  solution to Severe Morbid Obesity! Check the stats!

Topic: Anyone with Anthem Insurance??
I will soon have Anthem insurance (my soon to be hubby works for Toyota in Southern Indiana) and was wondering what hoops I might have to go through to get approved for WLS. I know they cover it pretty good, but didn't know what to expect...ie: 6 months pre-op diet/nutritionist...what kind of labs/tests...psych eval/counseling. Any input would be great.

Thanks! Good luck with your upcoming operation!

Preop is Optifast for 7 days. Women get a choice of 7 products a day. There are 3 flavors of drinks, 2 flavors soup and 2 flavors of bars. You can only eat 2 bars and soups a day. I tried the chicken soup and thought it was horrible. The other flavor is tomato ugh. I'm going to get drinks and maximum bars. Cost is about $100 for 49 servings. On the 8th day which is day before surgery it is clear liquid only.

Thanks for your reply! I probably won't be having my surgery until August. What is your pre-op diet like? I asked about it because I was curious and Dr Koehler said "one step at a time" haha

I have Dr Inman, and while I do like her alot. I feel very rushed when she sees me. At my one month checkup, she didnt even bother to look at my incisions, and I paid a $40 co pay for a (less than) 3 minute visit....
I was a bit disappointed, and hope it is better next time.
I do agree with the rest that you should writ a letter of complaint aganst that NP. No one deserves to be treated in that manner. No one.

I will be having surgery 5/15/12 by Dr. Haughn.  I have heard nothing but great things about him.  I had my consult with him on 4/13 and thought he was really friendly and informative.
