The American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) is the largest society for bariatrics in the world.  Since its inception in 1983, the ASMBS has provided guidelines, education  and information to surgeons that care for patients with the disease of obesity.  One of the many functions that ASMBS provides is to serve the educational needs of its member surgeons, the public and other professionals.

The ASMBS has provided guidelines for the treatment and care of bariatric surgery patients, including vitamin supplementation guidelines.  Published for the public in 2008, are the Integrated Health Nutritional Guidelines and updated in 2013 are the Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Perioperative Nutritional Metabolic and Non-Surgical Support of the Bariatric Surgery Patient.

ObesityHelp encourages members of the community to refer to these educational resources when considering a WLS procedure and in the selection of a vitamin supplementation program for your healthy lifestyle.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your bariatric surgeon or other health care provider that is knowledgeable of your medical history and health care.
