It was actually a prescription. I'm doing much better and trying to drink enough fluids.

Topic: RE: Experienced first stuck/slime issue!
I hear that! I have stories.... But not tonight. Some chicken I do ok. Roasted chicken seems very moist. And it does depend on the tightness I used to count my chews. Minimum of 35. 6 yrs later even when band was unfuilled I had developed a very good chewing habit. And every now and then when something isn't chewed up and just won't , me and my napkin are very good friends. Sounds gross but better than sliming everyone! My band is about perfect now. I can eat but it is helping me. I've learned more about how it works and that it is a helping tool and not to be so tight it stops me from eating. Ever have a stuck banana? It's the pits! It won't go anywhere as you writhe in pain. I only eat slightly ripe ones now and take small bites and chew em to pieces. Good luck on your journey. And remember trial and error and lotsa chewing!

Don't know how I did but my doc said I had to lose 23 lbs before he would do my surgery. I did eat some soups that had lots of beep broth in them and that helped a lot. I tried to get in as much protein and drank low carb shakes like low carb slim fast. Sugar free jello was my friend. I was on liquids for 2 wks prior and 4 wks after and no one could hardly believe it. My mind was so made up that I was going to make sure my liver shrunk. I had fatty liver and that was something that had to be done for surgery so I think flat out fear did it. Just keep hydrated and try to get plenty of protein. And remember if I can do it any one can!

Topic: RE: Unsuccessful Lap Band
Carb addict here too. Learning to eat complex carbs. Veggies fruits etc. but trying to see which ones affect me the most. Cannot eat rice well with band and makes my sugar jump high. Potatoes are easy. Working at getting off simple carbs. I have to chew meats very very well and be super patient. Someone told me to try to eat them first and that is what I am doing. It really does seem to depend on the cooking method and protein. In the past I've had band too tight I just couldn't eat it and now it seems tight enough to help but I can eat around the band if I get sloppy. Im one month from my fill and down 8 bait holding steady. Been ill and working on upping the exercise. It does take a lot of work and that is what I did not realize when I got the band. How much work it takes. It is worth it and I continue to take baby steps one at a time.
Hang in there. It's worth the work but takes lots of figuring out your tolerances.
Good luck!
Topic: RE: questions on medications
Wanna hear something funny? In the beginning I had so many yucky episodes with food it freaked me out so I started crushing pills. Everything i take is crushable and not time released. So I eventually was without my crusher and believe it or not I chew 2 Metformin 2 times a day I chew Tylenol. Sometimes u get liquid. However I am now doing omega 3 fish oil and it's one honkin pill in a very hard gel. Can't chew so I cut it and pour it down my throat. Talk about nasty.

Topic: RE: Exercise done today
Good job everyone! Unfortunately today was a no for me. I worked but was sick all day. Totally whacked out so we will see what tomorrow brings. My body is doing weird stuff. Did not eat differently and I have a lot of water gain overnight 3 lbs. I'm diabetic and water has not been an issue until about a week ago. No real extra sodium or anything. Might take another diuretic tomorrow to see if that helps. Was weird because I was up all night going and going. If this keeps up will have to get with my doc. Weird because I did on for a week.

We had a calm conversation about the issue. He thought I could still have a bite of a glaze donut, he didn't know I couldn't have any. So he told me he would work harder at not bringing those type of items into the house. Only time will tell.
Glad to hear! Definitely a start! One day at a time,,,,,:)

Sounds like a plan. And you're right, he doesn't need them either. Sounds like he needs diabetes education! Trust me, coming from a diabetic who is working to get off insulin and then meds...

Topic: RE: Almost 7 years with my band and over 100 lbs gone!
YAY! so glad you posted. I was banded around the same time, and haven't been as successful, but recently started again. The good thing is I'm not where I was.. about 62 lbs ago. What an encouragement. Thanks for stopping by to encourage everyone! Congratulations!

Let him eat them. Put them in a brown bag or freeze them. Unfortunately if we push our family can begin to resent the changes. Especially if they were eating buddies. It will take time to adjust to the entire band thing in many ways. Take a day when things are good and have a good honest discussion. Attack the situation but not the person. Be assertive but point out the extreme effort you have gone through and how you need as much support as possible. If they can't comply ask them to find a place to store where you don't know. Talk about other alternatives. Something you both might like. My husband sometimes can sabatoge me. However our new agreed upon treat is cereal or animal cookies. I don't eat a lot and it doesnt pour a guilt trip on me if I eat a few. I really just don't anymore. it's one baby step at a time. My hub is eating all I have left over on my plate and he is not thin so this will be our next little discussion plus he is eating much more since my band was tightened.

Good luck and communication is the key.

Thanks too. It is really encouraging for me to see that others are not just depending on the band. I know I need to do something and at least these are giving me ideas. Also helps when you see others do it. Next week I will chose to move forward on this
Thanks again ladies!

Topic: RE: Feeling better
Not sure if you have a Costco but they have a protein shake that has 30 grams of protein and it's not a powder. Chocolate tastes pretty good especially if it's super cold. I use it for in between meals.

Topic: RE: Need exercise motivation
Thanks will try that. Probably start next week. Have a funeral for family out of town this weekend. Thanks for the encouragement and in telling me what you do.

I work full time.  Not a morning person and come home beat. Any ideas or your personal experience to share?
