Weight Loss Surgery Directory

    I am home at last

First of all I want to thank everyone for their concern for me Post Op and for
all your words of encouragement pre op. I have not met anyone of you but
you are all soooo amazing you have been a life line to me. Thank you.

Well I went in for my surgery on Tuesday July 3rd and I was the first in the OR
so I was excited. After my surgery I just could not keep anything down
until Friday. Dr Andrews said he wanted me to keep down 80cc's per hour
but 30, 40 was all I could do. I was so discouraged as there was a lady in
there who had a VSG right after me and she got out Wed afternoon.
The staff were so supporting as they knew how hard I was trying either
it would not go down or it came back up. The nurse from the Bariatric centre
told me everyone heals a at a different pace. So I pulled up my socks and
plugged on. On Friday afternoon Dr Andrews came in around 4:30 and said
if I was doing between 60 to 70 cc's per hour I could go home. I was sooooo
excited. But because we live in the country my husband had me stay with his
mom and I came home last night.
Booooy did it feel good to sleep in my own bed.

I tried to post from my phone from the hospital but I don't think my
    brain was working right.

Dr Andrews and all of the staff at the Bariatric Centre
are SOOOOO nice, helpful and encouraging.

But what a difference a day can make Saturday I took in just about 2 lit res of
liquid and yesterday I did the same. I am just every 5 min or so sip, sip, sipping.
    Great, Great advice.
I am sooooo happy I did this from the day I started my
Optifast Diet until today I have lost 20 lbs wow.

For a couple of days there I was wondering did I make the right decision
and now I know in my heart I did.
Sure we may have to go through some tough waters in the beginning but in
the end we will be able to eat normal food again we just do it in a healthier way.
It seems that after this surgery a light switch goes off in your head and you
see food in a totally different way. I realize now how ass backwards I was eat ting.

    I have one question
Where can you buy the Beneprotein besides the pharmacy
at the Dr's office?  Wow is it expensive for a kool Ade can of it $25.00.

Thanks again everyone and I can't wait to meet you all on the 25th.
    I have clothes to bring.

Have a totally awesome day.  Robynjoy

.So happy you're home and doing better on your fluids. I buy the beneprotein in Stonewall and it is $22.99 a can but I find it goes a long way.  It works out to be $0.72 per serving for 6 grams of protein.  It is nice to be able to add it into something savory rather than just sweet protein shakes.  If you would like me to pick up a can for you and bring it on the 25th to the. M&G just let me know!
Rest lots and sip, sip, sip!

Robnjoy, glad to hear you finally got home. I know ,I was so glad to be able to sleep in my own bed too.I got my Beneprotein online at www.well.ca. It is $25.99 and is at your door in about 5 days via UPS. Don't know if these discount Codes are still valid, but if you spend over $40.00, they take $10.00 off. Try it iff you are interested. The numbers For the discount coupons are..

3993e034f2. OR. 852d143be6. When I ordered it, I ordered 2 cans and then the discount code and it took the $10.00 off. I was sleeved 6 weeks ago and I still add a tablespoon of Beneprotein to a lot of my food to give me the extra protein..I suggest buying some as it doesn't change the flavor and you can add it to hot or cold...just mix it into a paste first, then add the rest of your liquid otherwise it tends to lump up.OH. This web also has chewable Calcium pills which are quite good, I got the Wampole , 150 pills for $13.99.
I have never made it to any of the meet and greets either, maybe
we will see each other at the next one...take care..Barb C

    Hi Tiff

I experienced taste changes after surgery, too. The protein drinks I was using before surgery made me gag afterwards. I also couldn't drink coffee for three or four weeks. It seemed almost tasteless. For me, the taste change was temporary. I'm now just over five months out from surgery and my tastes seem to have pretty much gone back to normal.

A dietician where I work said the cheapest place she knows of to buy Beneprotein is at Meyers Drugs on the corner of William & Isabel. I don't know how much it costs there, but you could phone to ask them I'm sure. I haven't actually tried it myself.

Glad to hear you're doing better, Robynjoy. I'm always so grateful when I read stories like this that I had such an excellent experience with so few symptoms.
