What's the code of ethics for the dietician...same as the doctors? Are they under any 'confidence' "laws" or anything?
The reason I'm asking is because somebody I know is very good friends with Laura and this friend somehow found out I had the surgery...hmmmm.
I know the rapid weight loss is probably pretty obvious so she may have come to her own conclusions, but it's still pretty suspicious.

I would think they are not allowed to disclose information about any person that sees them, just like any other health care worker. I don't know the laws but my hubby works at a hospital and says she should be bound by the same rules as a nurse.
I know that even as a staff person in a school, we are asked to not discuss students/staff situations outside of school.
I would ask this person how she found out and see what she says if it is really bothering you. Hubby said it would be hard to prove unless the friend comes right out and says Laura told her.
I hope that's not the case....

Anyone who works in health care is bound by confidentiality rules. Nobody is allowed to tell anyone anything about anyone unless that person has given them permission. Where I work even volunteers have to sign a confidentiality pledge. 

They are under the privacy laws as well as PHIA - the personal health information act  ( mb) 

I know PHIA - they can be fined  $50 000 for disclosing personal information.

But just looking at the way we eat - it's very specific and pretty easy to indentify if you know what to look for. She could be just very aware of the post op diet, and put together with the rapid weight loss- might have come to her own conclusions.

Thanks for the info. I've only seen this person once in the last 10 months (since my surgery) and I haven't told her anything about my diet or exercise program. So I'm curious why she'd suddenly know when we aren't even very close. She knows I've lost weight but has never asked anything.
In any case, I may just come out and ask her...although I doubt she'd tell me if that was the case.

You can put in an enquiry through the WRHA and they can look into it. She would be bound by PHIA. FYI I know she used to troll the boards.
