So I got in a day early and they did my surgery when I got here!  It's now been about 36 hours fromw surgery and I am finally feeling well enough to post.
The pain meds were making me nauseous so. Had them switch mine. Madeline is in the room next to me and it seems like she and I are having the similar recovery issues. The gas is VERY painful but coming along.
Sorry this is so short will post a longer one later but typing on an iPad is not the most ideal!

    Topic: FINALLY
I have finally reached a 'normal' BMI. My bmi is 24.4!!
But I'm still about 5 pounds away from my personal goal.
It's one of life's little jokes...the scale has been 'stuck' for about a month! I'm so close to 100 pounds gone...just a few pounds left.
I think I'm building muscle mass and starting to tone (thanks to hours of cycling and zumba each week). So I may not reach my goal any time soon but I'm okay with that!
I'd love to make it out to a meet and greet one of these days...I still need to meet lots of our new additions to the OH family!
Hi to all of the 'oldies' (but goodies). Hope you're doing well. I haven't posted in awhile and feel bad that I've been out of things lately.
    Take care everyone!

Good news, pureed food has been really good today.  Had half a poached egg, a mug of ceam of asparagus soup and the rest of the egg with mayo and pickle juice (yummmmm!) now gonna try a bit of fruit ****tail.

Temp is a tiny bit high so I am going to watch it.  Finally weighed myself and I am a lb. higher than before the surgery.  Disappointed is this usual?

I have a bamix which I like ( a powerful hand blender) but I also just like the cheap cups with lids from popeyes... I bought a bunch for 99 cents each.

Loved the Magic Bullet (and you can use it when you get to the puréed/mushie stage too) but yes it can make it a little frothy if you don't add milk / almond milk / soy mil**** If you're just using protein powder and water, the blender bottles from GNC work pretty good but they're big.

    Topic: RE: Barium swallow\leak test
Gee... not sure what the pop rock fizzy stuff you're talking about is.... yes, a barium swallow CAN be used as a leak test. It's not too bad, it doesn't hurt one bit. Usually the barium is a thicker liquid; the one in Mexico tasted like banana, the one here at The Grace Hospital tasted like vanilla. You just take a few sips while they do live x-ray (flouroscopy) and they can tell if there's a leak. If you have barium, just remember to drink lots of water afterwards as you don't want it sitting in your intestines for a long period of time as it can harden. With the amount you need for a leak test, though, that's not nearly as much of a risk.

Glad to see you posting Glad that eating has gone well, Tomato soup is a comfort food for me and with the weather in the 'Peg this week I'd probably drink a can a day! lol. If you do have a temp, call your doctor just to rule out infection ok? You're smart and you probably already figured that out but I feel better reminding you Either way, feel better.

    Topic: Day 7 Post Op
Well things are progressing nicely I would say.  I have had lots of broth, water, tea and pudding with protein powder added to it over the past week.  Yesterday had a craving for tomato soup and it went down very well.  The other thing that has been very good is the Motts fruitsations freezies, I seem to like warm and cold things they feel very comfortable in my pouch.

Woke up this morning craving eggs so I had half of a poached egg pureed and so far all is good.  So I plan to continue with more pureed food today and I guess now I need to start being aware of seperating my fluids from my meals more.

Didn't get outside to walk the last couple of days as the weather was yucky and I was very tired.  I am going to start wearing my pedometer today and tracking my steps.  Haven't weighed myself yet, waiting for hubby to bring my good scale home tonight .....eager to see where I am at.

I woke up at about 4 am today sweating and clammy.  Thought it was just my hot flashes again ( haven't had them for the past 3 weeks )  but now I am experiencing it again since I got up and it doesn't feel like a hot flash.  Gotta look around to see if I have a thermometer and take my temp.

Oh and Manitoba health doesn't cover any but if you submit it to them, get denied, then send it into your benefits at work if you have a health care spending account, you can sometimes get your $500 for it. You can also like Lorna said - claim it on your income tax as a medical expense.

I went to Dr Ponce ( using Trish as a coordinator) in April and would reccommend it. The hospital was very clean, the nursing was great, I felt very confident in my decision. I'm heading back in June with my sister who is getting the surgery. I picked my date, and got in within 3 weeks. Not much of a wait at all. I could have been in within a week had that worked for me. I wrote about my experience under my profile, and I put pictures up on www.photobucket.com/wlstijuana

It's easier getting the surgery with lower bmi's in mexico. I've heard of people between 30-35 getting it , where lower bmi people often have issues finding a surgeon.

The mexico forum is good... not very active but lots of previous posts.

Feel free to message me if you have any questions you don't want to post or for any contact info.

Hmmm licorice tea sounds good.  I will have to look for some, have never heard of it.
I tried benefibre a couple of weeks ago and it didn't help much.  This time I tried some baby food prunes and that worked like a charm.

With a 35 BMI, I qualify, right?  I am not sure

    2) How long of a wait am I looking at?  I am not sure

    3) Do you recommend Mexico?  Several people from the boards have gone to Mexico, I myself will be going on the 4th of June

    4) Does Manitoba Health cover any of the cost if you get it done in Mexico? MB health does not cover any costs because it is available in MB.  However, you can claim it on your income tax and get some back; at least that is my understanding.

    5) Is there a Mexico thread? There is a VSG form and a Mexico forum under international.

I thinks that's it. Thanks for any help you can give me!!

Some of the info you reqested any way.  Good luck with your searching.  Lorna

I am so happy for you and am praying for a safe and speedy recovery.  Hoping someday I will be able to put faces to everyone.

You should be so proud of yourself the way you have delt with pre op prepp.  WAY TO GO!!

    Keep us up to date.

I am hoping to get my new surgery date this week.

At the rate everyone is loosing there wil be no problems making room for people on the loosers bench. As they keep loosing which makes more room for other loosers on the bench.

Have a wonderful trip.  Take care.
