Topic: RE: What's Happening Saturday!!

Hi OH People,

I miss Jan also, hope she is feeling well and feels like posting again soon.

I know what you all mean about the carb thing, I haven't had surgery yet, but I have been low carbing it so I can get as much weight off a possible b4, It takes me about 1 to 2 weeks b4 I can honestly say I don't have the cravings. I don't go into coma, but I get awful gas and really feel sick to my stomach.

I have had a hard time for about 3 weeks of cravings, found out Tues. that I'm Borderline Anemic, so started taking more Iron and drinking with OJ. Still gonna have to put up with the cravings for a few days.

Think I might go ahead and get a protein powder and see if that might help with the cravings.

It's a beautiful day here, had to turn on the air conditioning cause of my allergies can't just open all the windows and out place gets really hot when the sun shines on it all day.

Hope everyone enjoys the warm days, Jan you are in my thoughts and prayers.

What a beautiful day!  We enjoyed art walk last night along with 2000 other people.  I think everyone was excited for the beautiful evening.  We got out today and visited my grandparents they are so sweet and crack me up.  Then went to some vintage clothing stores and now we are getting ready to have some friends over to cookout tonight.

JO I know what you mean about comas.  I haven't tried any sugar over the 7 grams that's in Click but if I eat more than about 20 grams of carbs I might as well clock myself out for about 4 hours.  It knocks me on my butt.  I hate it.  I went to the movies with my daughter and we had a small popcorn and I was eating it and she leaned over and said MOM, stop I can't drive home I don't have my permit on me.  HAHAH!  She just knew I was going to pass out at any moment from that popcorn.  Its crazy.  I didn't eat too much and I really try to watch it since I know that this happens.

I hope everone has a wonderful weekend.  I have an open house tomorrow. ;) Lou

Oh gosh!!!amen sister I thought it was only me!!!I don't dump on sweets  and a year ago i never touched them, now i am probably eating everything the same as i was prior to surgery except in much less amt.s maybe 1/4       but....weight has slowed to a crawl, maybe a lb. a week...not good, How long of being carb free-sugar free until the horrible urges pass?   thank you for the post, I needed to hear that someone else struggles too after surgery, it is not a magic pill by any means.

Jan, we hope you are doing well and are anxiously awaiting your return.

It's a beautiful day here, supposed to be around 70 tomorrow.  Hubby has been working in the yard the last few days.

Today I'm decarbing so it's protein drinks all day and a meal this evening.  A year ago I wouldn't think of eating sweets but I've gotten careless recently and sugar has never made me dump; however, it makes me very sleepy, makes my tummy ache and gives me a headache.  The things I've tried don't taste like they used to.  Yesterday we had a Chili cook-off at work and desserts were brought in.  I tasted a few knowing I would regret it and I did.  I was in a sugar coma all afternoon.  I have to get back to basics and follow the rules like I did in the beginning.

What are you doing this weekend?

~Jo~

Connie,
Thank you, I didn't take your manner of writing as at all offensive in any way. You basically just "hit the nail on the head".  I've ALWAYS been an emotional eater, and I suppose the "newness" of surgery has kind of waned a little. I have to incorporate newfound self control, and re-read my paperwork to get on track again.  I know that if I had the willpower to go on a liquid diet for 2 weeks, that I can SURELY eat SOLID foods that are healthier for me than the comfort foods I've been cheating on (shamefully) lately.  I need to get a new mindset, and you all are SOOO very helpful.
Thanks so very much, and congrats on your very successful weightloss, and keep up the good work!

I asked God to take my habit away, and he said: "No. It is not for me to take away, but for you to give up."

Tonya I can feel your frustration reading your post.
You asked what was wrong with you and I can answer part of that question... you are not eating like you should be as a Lapbander. You MUST eat SOLID protein at least 2 meals a day. Think of it this way... how long does it take an Atkins shake to pour through a funnel as opposed to a well chewed solid protein? Not very darn long right. Well that is how you are trying to feed yourself twice daily. Of course you can't stay with it for very long. If you will eat 4-8 ounces of solid lean meat, fish or poultry for at least your lunch and dinner meal, ideally all 3 meals. And stay away from the carbs and liquid calories you will stay full longer and not be as likely to 'fall off the wagon'. Please revisit the diet information hopefully you were provided after surgery. Relearn how we are supposed to be eating with the Lapband instead of what you are trying to do now. If I can help you with any diet information just PM me I will be very glad to help. Just so you know I am not at goal yet, I am still fighting the fight too. It is slow but steady and I am willing to keep chippin away at it. And yes I too have suffered with plateaus frequently... very frustrating!
Another question I have is are you aware that it is very unlikely your insurance will cover a revision? I of course don't know if you plan on being self pay or not. But that is a large hunk of money that will be spent in hopes you will follow the new WLS diet when you are not following the suggested lapband diet now. (I have worded this several different ways trying to not sound judgmental or rude.. that is not what I am wanting to sound like here) But honestly if you are not willing to follow the prescribed diet of one surgery chances are you will not be successful with another type of WLS. At least that is what my surgical team repeatedly tells their patients. My point is make sure you have done everything humanly possible losing with the lapband rules before trying a different one. I want only the best for you and once again I am not trying to be mean or rude here just trying to help.
Do you have access to a support group? Between getting back to the diet plan that you should be following and a support group you may be able to get that last 40-50 pounds off without any additional surgery and all the risks that it involves.
Please keep us posted as to how things are going. I am out 2 years and a month and have lost 120 pounds. It has become a very important part of my life... to help people be successful no matter what surgery they have had.
Wishing you success,
Connie

Topic: Daily Bible Reading - Saturday - November 7th

Today’s Reading

Ezekiel 16:42-17:24
Hebrews 8:1-13
Psalm 106:13-31
Proverbs 27:7-9

Daily Devotional

"For this I will give thanks and extol You, O Lord, among the nation; I will sing praises to Your name"
(II Samuel 22:50, AMP)

Any time you're tempted to get discouraged, the quickest way out is to stop focusing on what you don't have and start thanking God for what you do have. You have to find a reason to be grateful!

Being grateful will lift you out of depression and discouragement. Being grateful can help turn a relationship around. It can even save a marriage! It's amazing what happens when we stop focusing on somebody's faults, and instead, we start seeing the good and showing appreciation. People like to be around grateful people. They're drawn to people who are appreciative and thankful. In fact, being grateful at the office and expressing gratitude to your employer can even help get you a promotion or save your job during a time of layoffs!

I want to encourage you, every morning when you wake up, find a reason to give God thanks. Before you think about your problems, thank God that you are alive! As you find a reason to give thanks, I believe it blesses the heart of God. I believe He'll pour out more of His favor and blessing and lead you into the destiny He has in store for you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

"Father God, today I choose to give You thanks. Thank You for loving me. Thank You for setting me free. Thank You for the gift of Your Son, Jesus! I know You have a good plan for me. Thank You for leading and guiding me and for keeping me close to You all the days of my life. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

Susie, I'm sorry it was a wasted trip!  You will love Dr. Hawes, he's awesome.  When I went for my year check up I talked to my dr. about having my plastic surgery and they want me to wait another year.  They said they refer everyone to someone in STL, but I told him that I would be going to Dr. Hawes.  The day he came to talk to us he did a tt, lipo and a breast lift on my friend and she looks GREAT!  When you come to town let me know and hopefully we can get together for lunch. ;) Lou

Topic: Anyone know any local Dr's that do revisions from Band to DS??
Hey, anyone out there know of a surgeon that does revisions from Lap Band to DS? I'm a year and 3 months out, and have lost about 65 lbs.  BUT that was during the first 6-8 months.  I have perfect restriction, but my willpower has simply (not walked, or run....) but FLEW out the window. I have hovered around the same weight 220-224 for several MONTHS now. I still need to lose about 40-50 lbs to be where I'll feel comfortable and content (around 170-180) for my 5'9" height.
I've tried several times within the past 2 months to give myself a swift kick, and start out with my Atkins shakes morning and lunch, then  try to eat a nice high protein dinner, but fail (QUITE miserably) after only a day or 2.
***WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH ME?!?!?!?***
Now, I know that 40-50 lbs might seem pathetically trivial weight to lose, especially when a good majority of us had in the neighborhood of 100 PLUS Lbs to lose before surgery, but to me those extra lbs now seem like a impossible mountain to climb and conquer.
I'm feeling completely hopeless all over again. Like I'm going to be one of those "fail to lose even after weight loss surgery" people.
I just wish I could get the dang DS surgery and get those lbs off NOW, but at the same time, that sounds like such a lazy, pathetic, "poor little pitiful me" way out....not to mention dangerous to risk another surgery.
God, can SOMEBODY out there PLEASE HELP???
I feel like the ONLY thing that I'm sucessfully losing (quickly) is my MIND!
All replies are SO very welcome, and much anticipated!
Thanks so much!
~Tonya~

I wasted a whole day going to Columbia to see the PS. Even with a referral from my insurance he won't file. I was livid. Why send me there if he won't do it? I came home and made an appointment with DR  in Springfield. I am trying to get a new referral. I have to get something done no matter what but the guy in Columbia will never get any of my money.
Lou if you had not brought the doctor to see us I would be lost  now. I feel better going to see him and should have asked for him to begin with. I will let you know how that visit goes on the 16th.

We're not to drinkk 30 min before and 30 min after we eat.  Thats because when we drink just before we eat our pouch is full of liquid and our food will thin out and flush right outta the pouch with the liquid leaving us hungry sooner, same thing if we drink while we eat and right after, the liquid will flush out the food and we'll be hungry.

Hope that helps.

....as to why we are not to drink 30 min. before meals?  Is it just because it fills up our pouch where we don't want to eat as much or is there more to it then that?

Topic: RE: What Is Happening Friday for Jan
Good morning all!  Another beautiful day here and the weekend is to be warm and sunny.

Hope Jan is doing well and I'm sure she appreciates our prayers.  What a tragedy in Texas.  A young woman in Excelsior Springs, not far from me, was murdered 2 days ago.  The news is so depressing.

Susan, you are going to waste away.  I wish I was losing.  I just can't seem to get the pounds moving.  No weight loss for a couple months.  I know I need to exercise and I haven't been.

I bought the WII thinking it would be great exercise participating in the games but the TV I wanted to hook it up too is old and doesn't have the plugins for it.  Then, I looked at the price and wondered what was I thinking spending so much money for a game.  It's going back today.

It's so hard for me to make myself go to the gym after work.  It's dark and when it's cold it's even harder.  I just need to do it.

How about a same day's menu for you Susan?

I hope we will all remember the families at Ft Hood today . We were stationed there before coming to Ft Wood. My heart is broken for the families. I don't know what this world is becoming. It seems like everything is off kilter. I know some people think its a sign of the end of the world.
I know I seem to be on overload emotionally.
Today is my one year anniversary. I am heading out to Columbia to see a Plastic surgeon for estimates. I need a lot of work done. I will let you know what he says and if its a lost cause or not.
I hope you have a wonderful day.

Topic: Daily Bible Reading - Friday - November 6th

Today’s Reading

Ezekiel 14:12-16:41
Hebrews 7:18-28
Psalm 106:1-12
Proverbs 27:4-6

Daily Devotional

"Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind…"
(Romans 12:2, AMP)

Many people today don't realize that the reason they're not happy, the reason they're not enjoying life is simply because they've trained their minds in the wrong direction. They've trained their mind to worry. They've trained their mind to complain. They've trained their mind to see the negative. But just as we can form these negative mindsets, we can retrain our minds and form positive mindsets.

One of the main keys to developing a positive attitude is to learn how to stay grateful. When you stay grateful, you are focusing on what's right rather than what's wrong. This doesn't happen automatically, you have to discipline yourself to focus on the positive. You have to make a conscious effort every single day until a good habit is formed.

Remember, when you live with an attitude of praise and thanksgiving, you are shielding yourself from the attacks of the enemy. The seeds of discouragement cannot take root in a grateful heart. Neither can bitterness, envy, or strife. When you have a grateful heart, you are strong. You are empowered, and you can confidently enjoy the good life He has prearranged for you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

"Father in heaven, today I surrender my thoughts and mind to You. Help me retrain my thoughts so that they are in line with Your will for my life. I choose to have a positive attitude of faith and expectancy and thank You for empowering me to enjoy the good life You have for me. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

Dr. Price and his staff are wonderful.  I had my surgery 7/8/08 and have absolutely no regrets.

I have to say Tricia, the physiologist, gets on my nerves with her exercise requirements.  I know exercise is important but I'm never going to exercise 7 days a week.

Good luck and post here your progress.

Good morning OH,

It's a beautiful day, I had to get the oven cleaned b4 Turkeyday, since it's self cleaning had to open all the windows turn on fans and it still stinks, LOL wish I had remembered to do it the other day when we were in Springfield for Dr. app.

Janet I know your Surgery is going to go good. I love to shop at thrift stores, you can really get some great things if you take time to look, NBC is one of my favorites, I found some really nice dresses, one of them I forgot to make them take off the magnet and like to never get the darn thing off.

I thought about calling Jan also just to say hi and let her know I'm thinking of her. Maybe I will later on.

Sheila, hi, how are you? I got my papers turned in for Surgery, waiting for the call for my first Dr. visit. They have to make sure I fall in the Humana guidelines first, Should hear something soon. I want to get the ball rolling. Glad to see you here again.

I'm gonna close now. Hope everybody has a good day, and keep it positive.

Hi Peeps.
I have not spoken to Jan yet, but I plan on trying to call her today and check on her. At least talk to Joe and see how she is doing if she isnt up to it just yet. I bet she is being a whipper snapper at this point and ready to go home! LOL.....She isnt one to be down for more than 20 minutes at a time!

Yesterday I went to town to pay bills and stopped at Goodwill and found my grandaughter a sleeper and found my adopted grandson (renees) Noah, a couple of outfits, a jacket and Christmas outfit-all brand new, except the Christmas one, all for 99 cents each! I cannot believe it-the tags are still on everything too! From babies are us and childrens place-good expensive places...yay....me so happy! LOL....  I had stopped trying to find my son, Jon some pants. He is between sizes and I am having a dickens of a time trying to find him pants. I took some back to WM yesterday that were too tight. I went to Name Brand Clothing and found 2 pr that I THOUGHT would fit, but they were too tight as well, so they will be going back as well. Darn it.

Mikes mom called last night and for the first time ever, it looks like she will be with us for the holidays! YAY! For Christmas anyway-and then on her way home, she is going to stop in Colorado and spend some time with her dad that she hasnt seen in many years either. Im excited to see her.

Well, Im getting nervous about surgery next Tues.....I have so much to get done before then. I bought a pr of slippers yesterday for the hospital and I have some magazines........I have to get some stuff organized and written down.  Im just nervous overall. I HATE SURGERIES...I HATE BEING IN THE HOSPITAL!!! I dont like all the pain either. Plus, they are using my c-section incision, which already folds over like a taco because of all the weight loss, you know? Thats going to be really hard to keep seperate! Im NOT looking forward to that.

Well, I am going to get this posted. I hope you all enjoy this beautiful day!  As always, your all in my thoughts and prayers. Love, Janet

Today’s Reading

Ezekiel 12:1-14:11
Hebrews 7:1-17
Psalm 105:37-45
Proverbs 27:3

Daily Devotional

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline"
(II Timothy 1:7, NLT)

So many people today are living with less than God's best because they've allowed fear to stop them from pursuing their dreams. We have to remember that fear is not from God. It's a lie from the enemy to paralyze us and steal our power.

Today's verse tells what God has given us: power, love, and self-discipline or self-control. When you are confident in God's promises, there's nothing that can stop you. But when fear creeps in, you hesitate. You're not as strong as you were before. You feel powerless. Not only that, but it affects your love. Love prompts us to give, and when we are afraid, we tend to clench our fists and act selfishly. Fear also affects our self-discipline or self-control. It makes us panic and do things without thinking.

If you've allowed fear to steal from you in any area of life, today you can be free–you can be finished with fear. Conquering fear starts with a choice to believe God's promises, and then taking a step of faith to act on them. As you step out, God will be with you. He'll give you power, love, and self-discipline so that you can confidently move forward into the abundant life He has for you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

"Father God, I come to You today declaring that I am finished with fear. Thank You for giving me power, love, and a sound mind. I choose to stand on Your promises. Fill me with Your peace and joy today as I move forward in victory with You. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

Topic: I visited Jan today
Hi everyone, I wanted to let you know I went to see Jan at the hospital today.  She's doing good, a little loopy from the pain meds. ;)  She said I'm doing pretty good talking to you sitting so close I can actually focus on you. HAHA!  She was up in a chair, she looked good and said that they were going to get her up to walk later.  Everything went great and she's having minimal pain so far.  Just thought I'd let you all know. ;) Lou

Susan.... Thank-you for to update on MIMI-JAN.

Jan know that you are in my prayers and since the surgery went well, now the healing process needs to go smoothly and be as painless as possible.

To everyone out there I'm loving this warm weather and making plans for after I have surgery and can go places without electricity. I'd love to be on a lake somewhere right now camping, catching fish or just sitting somewhere quiet and reading.

Love ya all and hope you get out and enjoy this weather while you can.

Topic: RE: St. Luke's Kansas City
I had my RNY with Dr. Price on 9/21/09 and have had a great experience with all of the staff at his office.  I have been seeing him since June and I really like that you see 5 people every time you go in for an appointment....Dr, nurse, exercise therapist, dietician, and psychologist.  They are really into the "whole person" and are all very easily accessible and easy to talk with.  The care that I remember from the hsopital stay was good, though I don't remember much after the surgery....I don't like to be in pain so I took advantage of the good stuff while in the hospital.

If you have more questions, feel free to ask.

Hello all, I'm a new member. I have my first appt. with a surgeon at St. Luke's in Kansas City next Tues.

Has anyone else gotten their surgery and care through St. Luke's?  What were your experiences and are you happy with their program/dept.?

Topic: Daily Bible Reading - Wednesday - November 4th

Today’s Reading

Ezekiel 10:1-11:25
Hebrews 6:1-20
Psalm 105:16-36
Proverbs 27:1-2

Daily Devotional

"Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God"
(Romans 10:17, NKJV)

Did you know that your faith in God can grow and increase every single day? Notice today's scripture doesn't say, "Faith comes because you have heard the Word of God one time." No, it says that "faith comes by hearing"–in the present tense.

Sure, God's Word can transform us in an instant; but most of the time, we need to hear God's principles over and over again before they become active in our lives. God's truth sets us free and puts His plan for our lives into motion. As you study the Word of God, it chisels away at the doubt and unbelief that's been built up over the years. And, just as a seed needs water to grow daily; your spirit needs the Word of God daily. The more you hear God's promises, the more you know Him, and the more confidence you will have to believe His word.

I encourage you to choose a few verses to meditate on daily. Write them down and carry them in your purse or wallet. The more you hear the Word of God, the more your faith will grow, and you will move forward in the freedom and victory He has for you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

"Father in heaven, thank You for Your Word that is living and active and growing in my life. I submit myself to You today. Teach me Your ways and give me insight into Your Word so that I may know You. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

My son just got approved today.  We/he goes to the one day class on 11/25/2009.  Maybe you'll be there?  After the class the Doctor will see you, they give you your date, and they send you for a few tests (labs, heart, etc.).

Topic: Mimi - Jan Out of Surgery
Joe just called and said Mimi is out of surgery and the Dr. said everything went fine.  She should be back up in her room in about an hour... it is 2:00 p.m.right now.

I know she is in Cox hospital in Springfield...if anyone wants to give her a holler I know she would appreciate it.

My prayers are with her that she will recuperate really quickly and be back on her feet able to do all those things she always wants to do without all the pain she has experienced for so long. She is a busy woman! ~tee hee

Thanks for the well wishes and prayers on her behalf.

Bec
