Topic: RE: WHATS HAPPENING FRIDAY
Hi Everyone!

No deer here - good thing as I don't have room in either freezer.  If you soak your deer roasts or steaks a few hours in Buttermilk it really helps take the gamey or wild taste out of it.

Had a Grandma/Grandson weekend last weekend when son and grandson came up.  I forgot how much energy a 5 year old has and he has out grown naptime.  Finally convinced him to rest on the sofa with the cartoon network on as I had to rest a bit.

I really enjoy it when my son Daniel comes home and I go all out cooking for him.  So the past few days I have not had to cook but warm things up in the microwave with all the leftovers we have.

Maintaining at 150 pounds - Keep trying to get up to 160 but I am going to have to give up and accept that this is what I am supposed to be at.  Sure seems weird saying that when I weighed over 300 for so many years.

Going to LIttle Rock again for turkey day.  This will be the last time there as they are moving to Hot Springs.  Brother in law is the new general manager for the Arlington Hotel there.  Have got a my Aunt to watch the dog and check on the cat while we are gone.  I am ready for 4 days off as we have been so busy at work with all the year end surgeries people are trying to get in before the end of the year.

Miss you all and please take care!
Sandy

From another Jo in Missouri, I stocked up last month.  I had heard about the pumpkin shortage.  My boys would be very disappointed if they didn't get their Pumpkin Bread for Christmas.

The big stores like Price Chopper and Hy-Vee didn't have any at all until just last week.  I found some at Apple Market.

Where do you live?

Topic: RE: WHATS HAPPENING FRIDAY
Yes, the sun does make us feel good.  We have sun again today.  It really perks us up.

I did well at Cheesecake Factory.  I checked out the menu before we went.  I chose the Cashew Chicken salad with dressing on the side.  Everyone else got high calorie, fried stuff.  I brought more than half the salad home.  We all ordered cheesecake and I ordered the low carb.  Delicious!  I ate a few bites at the restaurant and brought the rest back to work.  I ate it later in the afternoon.  I didn't give it a thought it was high fat, just that it was made with Splenda.  It put me in coma and I got so hot even my fan didn't cool me down.  I won't be doing that again.  I should have eaten the cheesecake in small bites over a couple days.  I'm not used to high fat food.

I got a suggestion for using the Nectar protein powder (Caribbean flavor).  The jug is huge and I've not liked it at all but someone told me to put it in Propel.  It tastes pretty good.  I won't buy it again but I can't afford to throw it away.

What am I doing for my vacation?  Monday I'm having lunch with a HS classmate I've not seen since graduation.  We're going to Ruby Tuesdays.  Not sure I want to tell her I had WLS so I'll play that by ear.  I'm close to the size I was in HS.  I can get soup and salad.  I have several sewing projects and scrapbooking.  I make burial garments for a hospice for babies.  Kind of a downer but the parents appreciate having something nice to bury their babies.  I need to deliver what I've already made. I won't be bored.  Have a ton of books to read.

Tonight hubby goes to the hockey game so I have an evening with the fur babies.  Max has asked me 3 times this week when I'm going to make some more Snickerdoodle Party Mix so I'll make some tonight.

Topic: RE: WHATS HAPPENING FRIDAY

I didn't fall of the planet. ;)  I'm glad to see everyone is doing so well.  I've been working alot and then when I'm not working my daughter has me taxing her all over town.  Take me here take me there, pick up so and so.  She will be driving in March.  Part of me is sad and part of me is jumping for joy like that guy in the What a place commercials. LOL.  Our neighborhood is having a home tour for Christmas so I need to get busy and get my christmas stuff up.  I just refuse to put it up before Thanksgiving.  Everyone come to my house for dinner and my daughter and I do the cooking.  I'm looking forward to it this year.  Last year wasn't so good.  I think I was a about 4 weeks out from surgery and cooked all that food to only be able to eat a green bean and a tiny bite of ham.  It was a sad Thanksgiving for me LOL  Not that I can eat that much now but maybe I can have 5 green beans and a couple bites of turkey. ;) Doesn't take much to make me happy these days.  Gage is leaving on Dec 18th for Arizona and will be gone for 21 days.  This is my first Christmas without him.  ;(  My moms not thrilled either but he will be with my dad and my dad is so excited.   Well I have to get going I hope everyone has a wonderful day and weekend! ;) Lou

Topic: Daily Bible Reading - Friday - November 20th

Today’s Reading

Ezekiel 40:28-41:26
James 4:1-17
Psalm 118:19-29
Proverbs 28:3-5

Daily Devotional

"And at the same time pray for us also, that God may open a door to us…"
(Colossians 4:3, AMP)

In this life, we are blessed with so many opportunities and privileges. In this day and age, we have tools and resources to figure almost anything out. It's easy to just depend on our own natural ability to make things happen. But God wants to be intimately involved in our lives. He wants us to come to Him, depend on Him, and allow Him to show Himself strong on our behalf. He wants to open those doors for you, and He wants you to know that He is the one working behind the scenes on your behalf.

Today, if you are looking for an open door, turn to God. Pray and ask Him to direct your every step. Keep asking, keep knocking, keep believing because God will open those doors before you. He will lead you and guide you into the abundant life He has in store for you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

"Father God, thank You for ordering and directing my steps. Today I come to You asking for an open door. I know that You will make a way even when there seems to be no way. I choose to trust You with every detail of my life! In Jesus' Name. Amen."

Topic: WHATS HAPPENING FRIDAY

OH WOW WASN’T IT BEAUTIFUL TODAY?????>? Joe took the boys to Branson and George is now enrolled in OTC and is filling out papers now to file for student aid….he is excited. And Patrick is set up to take his GED test and then he will get 3 hours free for doing it there. So they are both excited about getting that all done ….they went to the two big malls and collected applications for every place that was hiring right now and so both of them have applications to fill out. So we are on track with all of this stuff.

I went outside and walked around and around the house about 4 times….oh wow it felt so good to be outside walking. ..then I sit in the sun and got hot really HOT!!!!!it felt so good. THANK YOU GOD!!!! I really appreciate it..can we have some more of it please… I think I healed up some just from the sun.

Really I feel like im about to turn the corner now. isn’t it funny what a little sun can do don’t know if it affects everyone that way but it sure does me…..

BEC:::HOPE you got some of this beautiful sun today cause they say it is going to be bad again starting tomorrow,.

Thanks for the prayers just keep them coming it looks like God is listening and things are working great.

The boys are doing what they are wanting and my knee is doing better. I walked around the house 4 times today and tonight im tired but it feels good

Im sure im on my way to healing now ….boy im weird , what a little sun does for me .

Thank God that Paul got to work this week …does he go thru that every week? Of waiting to see if he is laid off that week. …man what a horrible thing. Will keep praying that he is allowed to work and not get laid off.

Bec as we were talking about today, I think you could have a wonderful time as a Tea room ..your house would be ideal. And you would be the perfect person to have one….you have the ability to make your dishes to have that beautiful appeal and your cooking is superb….so why not cash in on your assets as Paula Dean says….

JO:::::: well what are you going to do on vacation? Come down and see us on Monday evening that is our meeting…oh wow I don’t think I or anyone else has sent out the memo that Monday night is the COF meeting.

Be careful at the eating at Cheesecake factory most of the stuff there is loaded with carbs lol .

SUSAN::::::Joe and Rebel are both doing really good. …hope everything is going well with you and Andy….

Topic: RE: SNACK FOODS
I crave salt more than anything.  I've started putting a dash of salt in my homemade hot cocoa.  It makes the flavors pop.  I know this is going to sound gross, but I've even been putting some salt on my finger and lick at it for a while.
Have you tried dipping boiled eggs in a salt and pepper mixture?  I think it's really good.  I seriously just put a sprinkling of salt and pepper on a plate and dip my boiled egg into it.  It really cures that craving.
I like to microwave turkey pepperoni slices too.  They're great for dipping in refried beans with cheese.  It's like a protein stack.  I can only eat about 5-6, but they are so good.
Have you tried soy crisps?  My local Whole Foods sells them.  I've purchased a couple of bags before just so I could eat a about 4 crisps on 2 different occasions.  It would take me months to eat one bag.  Luckily, my husband has no problem finishing them off for me.  = )

I am so very fortunate to of found this site, I really don't have any friends, I guess after high school, having one baby after another, i never had anything in common with people my own age. I am blessed to have 4 sisters (i am in the middle of 7 ) the only one with an 8 year spread everyone else is 1 or 2 yr.s apart, unfortunately when I moved from oregon to kansas 10 years ago , i left my sisters who are my best friends behind, we still tal****asionally but not enough. It means so much to me to be able to come on here and be met with friendliness and not treated as an outsider, God bless all of you!! Jan I hope you are feeling better and taking it easy, your our ringleader on here, and I know i'm not the only one who looks up to you for the weight loss push.    take care, and Bec, I am going to look on ebay for the book..p.s you asked me before, my sons name is Michael... like the angel lol

OMG, I can be a witness that a little bit of good can make a big difference in your mood and if you are in a good mood it can help you feel better. Was down in the dumps yesterday, today I am actually doing positive things like trying Connie's jerky recipe. It smells so good in my house right now my mouth is watering so much I'm afraid I'll start drooling.

Susan, the first thing I need to do in my room is make room for the Gazzelle then there's no excuse for not exercising.  I do have sewing to do and scrapbooking.

One day I'm meeting a former HS classmate for lunch.  I've not seen her since HS and I'm not teling how many years that's been.

Sunshine......yeah.....finally!!  I'm counting the hours until 5:00 tomorrow.  I'm on vacation all next week.

Jan, glad to hear you are doing better.  Yes, the Gazzelle would be perfect for me to use and I actually like it.  When I bought it, it was folded up in a box and I didn't realize how much room it needs.  I put it on Craig's list but had to interest.  I really need to use it myself. I need to rearrange things in my woman cave to accommodate the Gazzelle.

Our boss is taking us to Cheesecake Factory today for lunch for all the good work we've been doing.  I looked at the menu to see what I want to order.  They do have a low carb cheesecake.

I had not heard about pretzels and popcorn being slider foods.  I thought sliders were things like pudding, yogurt, etc.  I rarely eat pretzels or popcorn.

I like string cheese or any type if cheese and some grapes or apple slices or a protein bar.  I like the Oh Yeah bar, not the wafe one, but the other one that's similar to a real candy bar.

Topic: RE: WHATS HAPPENING THURSDAY
Good Morning Mimi and Mo...

It's not raining this morning but it's dreary still... I hear on the news that K.C. is seeing a bit of sunshine now so it shouldn't be but a couple of hours till I see some... I'm usually that far away from the weather in the city?

I'm so glad you seen some change in your PT routine... I know you needed to see some progress!

I for sure am praying for your grandsons!  I'm glad they are motivated and sure hope they are able to get in school!  I just know you will be a wonderful influence for them and they will look back be ever so thankful for the part you played in there future! That you believed in the them and gave them a chance!

Paul came home and said he would not be laid off this week that only 5 people got to work and he was one of them! Glory! It's so scary and stressful dealing with this from week to week... but the Lord is taking care of us and I'm extra thankful for that... and for some reason our personal property taxes dropped about a $100 this year too!  I'm so grateful for these things!  Paul came home with a $20 voucher for meat at a local grocery store too!  Will make a nice dent in the the Christmas Ham!

I am going to try the pepperoni "chips" here real soon in the next day or two... I enjoyed chatting with Connie... I sure didn't know she worked right in Dr. H's office... what a very very cool job to have!  I would dearly love it! I could relate when she said it fed her soul to do that! It would mine too!  I'm so glad for her!

I think I would love to have a Bed and Breakfast...... do you think there is a WLS friendly B&B anywhere in the country? ~tee hee

Or have a tea room but use my whole house so to speak?  Would like to schedule on my terms though! ~ha

Thank you for the encouraging words about the job... I will let you know how it goes.

Boy have I been pleased how the Thera Shoes are working on the Gazelle... the rocking motion rolls right along with the repetitions of the machine...so so smooth on the joints... I did 15 minutes yesterday with the resistance hooked up but egads was I winded and know tomorrow I will be sore for sure!  I felt it as it was happening....

Going to work on decorations today I want to make a new Christmas wreath to put in the gable of the front porch.  I got two packages of lighted candy canes at Peggy's sale I'm going to use on it... hoping it will really shine out.  Paul and Jo will put up the lights this weekend so they will be ready for next week.  I have wanted a lighted nativity for years and I found one this summer on the local e~sell for $15... I have just the perfect place for it.. and got two lighted trees for $1 a piece at an auction last week... just have to string new lights and they will be ready to go.... I just love Christmas!  I love the reason for the season and all the wonderful things that go along with it.  So sad it has to be so commercialized but I try and stay focused and not let all the negative take root in my home or effect my family as much as I'm able to effect that.

Well I better get out there and run... going to stop and have a cup of coffee with a neighbor before I get started on the decs.

A good day to all,

Bec

Topic: WHATS HAPPENING THURSDAY

Well today was a whole lot better….my P.T. guy said I had my muscles knotted up in a knot , the quads. So he spent most of his time here massaging my leg and showed Joe how to do it too. To help get that muscle on the top of the thigh (quads) to release. He said that was what was causing so much pain. I know my leg feels fantastic compared to yesterday. Anyway after he massaged my leg I was able to work it so much better and bend it a whole lot more than I have been bending it. I have gotten it straightened out really really good. So I guess I wasn’t all being whiny huh…I knew my leg felt like it was cramping up and I couldn’t get it to stop. So hopefully this will help it ….he also is going to recommend that I have on going water therapy. He said maybe that would keep the muscles from grabbing so much when I try to do the exerices. …im really looking forward to that ….

Joe is taking the boys over to check with OTC they hope to get enrolled in college this next week for the January term….OTC told them they could help them with jobs too. So that would be killing two birds with one stone. They are so determined to do well now. Bless their hearts. We have had some wonderful deep talks about life and what they want out of life and where they want to go and do. And they have been telling me all about their lives for the last few years. Sad state of affairs. Hopefully they can get their lives turned around…So if I could get all my good prayer warriors out there to start praying for Gods guidance in their lives and for me to have te right words to lead them to Jesus. . These boys have been big burdens in my heart for a long long time. Anyway their names are George and Patrick and of course their mother Michele if that would all be resolved and come to pass before I die I would be happy ….

SUSIE::::: lol had to laugh at you about your four new coats …it is a new experience tho isn’t it to have to buy coats….I don’t think I had a coat at all for years , never needed one. Now im like you I have so many coats and jackets that it is pitifull. don’t feel guilty about spending money on yourself no matter whether it is clothes or surgeries or what you are worth it. I take it the personal problems are working out? I hope that what ever you want it to be it is working toward that end….

Susie sounds like you have big plans about your surgeries. I hope that all of them will give the results you want. I would be right there with you if I had the money but no way on Gods green earth that I could ever come up with that , unless I win the lottery or something. Lol

BEC::::::::::: well is the Turkey Pep. Done yet? You and Connie need to open a resturant. But love the recipes’ that the two of you combine have going. Need to keep it up….maybe can help some people with some foods….especially snacks and such…I think that is a lot of things that people crave and don’t know what to eat .

I know you are going to love working at Pennys and know that they will all love you to death . What is not to love. You will have everyone there spoiled to death , workers and shoppers alike . Lol

I have lots of plants that havent died back yet especially the elephant ears. You don’t have to dig them up yet if you don’t want to. I don’t dig mine up at all but I wait till they get a good freezing and the leaves are all black and wilted then I cut them back or if you were going to dig them up that would be the time. You don’t want them to freeze but you want them to have all the juices out of the leaves first….I still have zinnia and marigold and cosmos and lantana blooming away oh and yeah the pineapple sage is still blooming too so I have lots of color yet oh and one really surprising one is my impatients are still in full bloom….weird huh?

Thanks for keeping us all in your prayers….

JO :::::: I am resting and all just don’t want my knee to stick in a postion and have to have more flexion than I have right now. But it feels better than it did that is for sure….

I don’t really worry about the good carbs….I just count the bad ones I don’t know If that is right or not but it seems to work for me lol isn’t it funny how different things work for different people.? Makes you wonder doesn’t it?

You know it sounds like the gazelle would have a good home in your craft room then you could jump on and off it in between sewing lol just don’t forget which one you are doing lol .

SUSAN:::::boy it has been a long time since you have been on here ….hope you had a great week end

And hope to see you all soon….. Hey I need your mailing address , just send me an regular email with it

In there ok ?

Are you still losing weight? I bet you are tiny now for sure…

Well going to get this posted so see you all tomorrow…..

Topic: Daily Bible Reading - Thursday - November 19th

You know, it’s really hard at times to walk by faith because we cannot yet see what it is we are believing for.  When cir****tances say we are going under we all tend to want to just give up and throw in the towel but that’s exactly what satan is trying to get us to do when in fact the door of faith that we have been believing for is open right before us, all we have to do is walk right through it.  If we give up now we wont be able to see what we have been believing for.  For me, I vow to keep on walking by faith no matter what it looks like, no matter what satan tries to make the situation look like, I’m gonna keep on keeping on, in the end the Victory will be sweet.

Today’s Reading

Ezekiel 39:1-40:27
James 2:18-3:18
Psalm 118:1-18
Proverbs 28:2

Daily Devotional

"For a great and effective door has opened to me, and there are many adversaries"
(I Corinthians 16:9, NKJ)

Are you walking by faith or sight today? In other words, are you choosing to believe God no matter what your cir****tances look like, or are you making decisions and focusing your mind on what you can see.

Remember, it's always darkest right before the dawn appears. I believe that you are about to give birth to that promise. The enemy sees the supernatural doors that are opened before you, and he will try his hardest to get you to quit, give up, and settle where you are. But if you'll just keep pressing past that adversity, if you'll keep praising, believing, and confessing God's promises, you'll make it through. You'll come out wiser and stronger, and you'll embrace every good thing God has in store for you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

"Father God, thank You for the open doors You have prepared for me. I recognize that these challenges have not come to stay; they have come to pass. I choose to stand strong in You, knowing that You have blessing and victory in store for my future. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

Oh Susy, so sorry to hear all that is going wrong right now, but you know when things start happening it seams to run in groups. I'm praying that everything will turn around for you and you will start having a lot of good come your way.

Jan is right about calling medicare and letting them know the details. They will make sure that money is not collected that isn't earned, and if more people would call and report indiscrepancies there would probably be a lot more money saved.

You know, about posting I felt like I was imposing when I first came on here and posted some of the issues I was dealing with and was welcomed with loving open arms, and reminded that this is what support groups do. Most of the people on this board have had hard things to deal with some of them worse than others, but they are here to help us all get through as much as they can.

God Bless you and keep posting, cause sometimes it can help get it out and worked out.

OK ya'll, called Dr. Edwards office and am waiting for his team to call with my Phsyc Eval. appointment. I guess Dr. said we can work around the Plavix and that we will discuss that at my initial meeting with him.

Yay, may not be a surgery date but looks good for me now. Just hope the Phsyc doesn't decide to commit me in an assylum. Thank-you for all the support if not for my new friends I would have probably sat here and waited instead I think I gave a little push and it worked. Jan you are the one that said keep calling and you are right.

Are the turkey pep chips ready yet?!?!  I know wait for it... wait for it.

I work for Dr. Hoehn in the clerical division. I only work 2-3 days a week and am in charge of the information seminars. I am also the Lap Band patient advocate. In other words I go into the exam rooms and answer questions the LapBanders have and help with followup calls and such. I love it and would have never believe I would ever feel comfortable standing up in front of groups of people sharing my experience. I used to be the LARGE 'wallflower' trying to blend into the wallpaper. But this feeds my soul and I have such respect for both Surgeons and Tim I would do anything they asked. This surgery surely is life changing in so many different ways. But we all already knew that.
So is the turkey chips ready now?!?!?   TEE HEE
Here's hoping the sun shines tomorrow I am pruney enough already,

You are a hoot!  I wouldn't want to sacrifice perfectly good turkey pepps either but I will! ~tee hee I happen to have a partial bag... will crisp them up and let you know how it works!

I to still love to cook too, but have way more control than I EVER had before! But as I'm sure you well know it takes discipline not to just eat any ole thing we want.

Hey that's really great that you take goodies to Dr. H. and Tim... you work close to them don't you?  In a doc's office?  I love to feed grateful peeps too... it's very satisfying to see someone enjoy some thing so!

I got a chuckle out of you thinking someone stole your jerky!!!

I for sure don't know more about you than I wanted... alot people feel that way about the deer...they are very beautiful... I guess way more than an ole cow! ~tee hee

I dearly love to watch them jump over a fence... they are so graceful!  I ALWAYS wish I could do it that gracefully... heck I would just snag the very first part that touched the fence and plunk on over! ~ha

I sure know what you mean about the budget. I always have way more desire than I ever have budget! ~ha

Thanks again for all the info.. this is simply great!

Thanks Bec but as you can tell all this info is food related. Do you see a pattern here? I am my own worst enemy. I love to cook and although I try hard to make it as healthy as possible now, I still love to cook. I just don't enjoy eating it as much as I used to. I keep repeating to myself nothing tastes as good as thinner feels. Some days it works but then there are days not so much. But when I do bake the really good stuff that DH enjoys so much I take most of it to our surgeon's office for them to enjoy and to get it out of this house. You would not believe the 'sweet tooth' our Dr. H. and Tim has! I so enjoy feeding grateful people! :-)
I have never tried turkey pepperoni but I would think it would work just fine. If you try it please post your results. It would save me from sacrificing perfectly good turkey pepperoni. TEE HEE

What a neat idea!  You dear lady are just full of good ideas!  I'm going to try this right away... I'm not a pepperoni fan but this sounds interesting... my daughter would love this!  Can you use turkey pepperoni?

Thanks for posting this recipe if you will.

I like to take sliced pepperoni and make chips out of them. Hardly any carbs or sugars and most of the fat bakes out of them.
Here is what I do...
Spread a package of sliced pepperoni on cookie sheet pan in single layer. Preheat oven to 350. Bake 10-15 minutes watching them closely as they burn quickly. Transfer to paper towels and dab with paper towels to get as much of the fat off as you can. You can season them while they are still warm with whatever floats your boat. I sometimes take a small amount of Ranch dressing dry mix and sprinkle lightly over them. They keep at room temp in ziplock bags for several days...well I guess they would but not around this house they don't have a chance.
A good source of protein and almost no sugars and even tastes good. A combination that is hard to find.

I read that popcorn and pretzels those things that they teach us to eat on reg. diets are bad for WLS people due to the carbs and they are refered to as slider foods because it slides right through us without being absorbed causing us to want to eat more because it doesn't satisfy us that's what I read anyway.

I just wanted to post on here a big thank you to  two wonderful ladies who have helped me a great deal with prayers and advice. I am struggling struggling struggling at the moment, food, family, finances, you name it, everything is coming down at once it seems!  but I know that God will not give me more than I can handle (right?) I have an appt with a plastic surgeon tommorow, I am not getting my hpoes up this time after the fiasco of the last one  he billed medicare 300, for a 5 min, no look visit, then called me on the phone 2 nights before my scheduled surgery , he was to do a panniculectomy with my hysterectomy ovarian removal, with my gynecologist, I called up the hospital and was told my iron was on the low end of normal...but I really think he just agreed to see me over the phone and gave me immediate approval just so he could bill medicare for absolutely NOTHING! I need this off yesterday, my belly hangs over my groin and sits on the tops of my thighs! this isn't even what I intended to po post about today....sorry   but the ladies , you know who you are! I thank you from the bottom of my heart, i didn't get on and answer your emails because my computer completly crashed friday it will not even turn on! then the next day my tv went out! I am cursed i tell you, lol. I am borrowing my sons computer now so here is my thank you again and again. Jan if you read this, I think you have tried to do to much, My sons knee swelled something fierce when he'd over do it, you are not super woman, I know your supposed to move around and exercise, but you also need plenty of rest, your body had a major shock and the pain is telling you that you are trying to do too much,   , (i know that you would be giving the same advice to anyone else)

I eat 1 or 2 bags of microwave popcorn a day     i think there is only like 100 calories. I probably am just feeding into my food addiction, but i feel like it is beter to binge on the low calorie than the alternative. The other thing is red seedless grapes, i have been battling my sweet tooth lately (emotional upheavels) (plus a gol darned dunkin donuts opened right down the danged road from me lol) anyhow...i wash them, pluck off all the stems, and eat them until the terrible sweet cravings go away...plus it helps with constipation ...bonus ding ding ding lol  good luck

If we get hungry for chips or something we eat Pork Rinds, they have no carbs and very little calories, they have a lil fat grams but if you eat in moderation they are a good snack that we can have, we mostly eat the  Bbq flavored from walmart.

I tried the roll tip but it took too much meat so I just reshaped it into strips. I was looking for volume with my projects as there were always more soldiers than budget. You don't need skins they just take alot longer to dehydrate cause of their density. They are supposed to be more like Slim Jims than jerky I think.
As far as liquid smoke it is personal preference. I usually use hickory but like the mesquite too. And yes the Accent is the meat tenderizer stuff.
It is amazing how meat shrinks up using this method so your brother probably did have at least 10 pounds starting out. I would put in the oven what looked like a huge amount of jerky and by the time it was done it looked like someone had stolen my jerky and replaced it with little pieces of bacon. WHAT THE HECK????
I don't eat deer, I'm too soft hearted, but have heard alot of people talk about how good it is made into jerky. But not in my kitchen! I mourn the deers along side the highways that get hit. DUH! I know, but very thankful my husband does not hunt. Nothing wilder than a turkey on Thanksgiving is my kitchen rule. Now you know more about me than you really wanted I'm sure. TEE HEE
I can hear your excitement in your post, I look forward to hearing about your success. I'm sure Paul is too.

Does anyone have any ideas for snack foods for us?  I now have an addiction to the honey wheat pretzel twist which I found out today that pretzels are considered slider foods and will make us gain weight (might be part of my problem?)  I never used to eat a lot of crunchy salty foods but for some reason I want that?  So I am looking for something to snack on to replace my pretzel addiction.  I need something easy and convienient that I can take to school with me and eat throughout the day.

What kind of snack foods do you eat?

Hi Connie...

Just got back from picking up the gun and it had two tips in it...one for jerky and one for rolls/sticks... have you ever made those and do you bake them in the oven too?  Do you have to buy skins for those? like you get when the have them made at the processors?

Then another question:  I was looking at the liquid smoke and they had hickory and mesquite... is the one in your recipe hickory? or is there just a plain smoke you can buy?... they did not have just plain... do I need to keep looking?

Is Accent the same as meat tenderizer?  I haven't done much of this kind of thing so I am learning as I go... sure glad you have done it and can give me some pointers! ~ha

Last year my brother brought a bowl of jerky for the family Christmas get together...(snack foods type thing) and it was a HUGE hit... it was gone in no time... I know it had to have been at least 5 lbs of meat maybe 10 it was a pretty good size bowl.  My Paul LOVVVVZ meat!  He will sure enjoy it... I dearly wish we had deer meat to make it up with... so lean and HUGE on the protein too.

I do simply love the recipes! and thank you again for taking the time to write them out so very kind of you!

Bec
