For those of you who have been through the process with Dr. B or are going through it, I have a few questions.

I have my first meeting next week: What should I expect at that meeting? How long was it? Did they give you any indication on when you'd be scheduled for surgery?

I'm just curious...I've been keeping my fingers crossed that I would actually get in for surgery by the end of the year. But with summer vacations and everything I fear that my all day session and everything else will be pushed and I won't see surgery until 2013. I know it's not that far away but it feels like it is, you know?

Can you tell I'm a little excited?! LOL

 I haven't been through the process but have been waiting for what seems like forever.  Just curious to know how long it w as frok the time your referral was sent until now.

My referral was sent in late 2008/early 2009 and I got the call for my first meeting (next week) in April.

 Congratulations on your consult appointment, it's very exciting to be starting the process. I had my consult last month with Dr B and am scheduled for the all day session on July 10th. I've written a little blog on my experience to date that might answer some of your questions. I'm hoping to have mine in December but wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't happen until January. Good luck and keep us posted. I was nervous going thinking I would be denied right then and there but I don't think it happens like that. 

 Hey congrats...I am 7 weeks post op, had my first meeting with Dr B  in Sept 2011, full day session in Dec...surgery (sleeve) on May 10th...the time all depends on a lot of different things...so I would think early 2013 would be more realistic...but ya never know......

My first meeting wasn't too long, but each person is different depending on your meds and medicial situation.....Dr B is a sweetie...Shy and quite, so make some notes if you have questions and reserch the 3 options before hand to know what you can in advance....For me he told me right off at teh first meeting that he would reccomend the sleeve for me and I was happy with that.....

I know if feels life forever, but when you are at the point where you are, i can guarantee you it will go by so fast with the process!!

I don't remember much about my first visit, prob took a couple hours, got weighed in, they got all my info, medical and prescription, then with the Dr i prob only spent about 15-20 mins, he explained all 3 surgeries and suggested the Sleeve for me, which is the one i had made a decision on before meeting him so i was pretty pleased with that.

They will not be able to tell you when your surgery will be, but all i was told then, was i could expect it to happen within 6 months, and from the 1st visit to surgery, it was about 5.5 months but it goes by pretty fast especially when you have been waiting for years to get a call.

Unless they are really ahead with surgeries, i would think within 6 months you should be able to get surgery.

Have you decided on a surgery yet ? or still undecided?

Thanks for the replies. From the research I have done, I hope he'll recommend the sleeve for me. I just don't think either of the other 2 options are for me based on what I have to lose and the quality of life factors.

I was kind of keeping my fingers crossed that it would happen sometime in December as I've been saving up my vacation to take around surgery. I wasn't expecting to ever get the call so I'm just grateful to be starting this process - I'll just have to learn to be patient! :)

I got a call to go and meet dr on feb 8th first met with nurse who took my weight and told me that diet pop would be a no no and need to give up before surgery then she put me in a room to wait for dr b talked to him for 15 mins top  He will support any of the surgerys from what I got from him
got a call to go to all day session in april but was away so waited and got another call for all day session on june 5
at this session which lasts all day they go over the 3 types of surgery 
then the dietican talks to you 
then the psychologist comes and talks to group
after session you are told that the psychologist will set up an appointment with you individually to discuss surgery and your expedtations
she said that this would take a couple of months before she called you but in general it takes about 3 to 4 months from this stage to get appointment. depending on vacations etc....

Had my consult today and it went well. As others have said, Monique and Dr. B were very nice. I stupidly didn't ask Monique when she thought I'd get my all day session (so I'm going to call Monday to see if she has an estimate). Dr. B recommended the sleeve for me (yay! That's what I was hoping for). And when I asked about when I would get surgery he said I should have my surgery by the end of the year so that was exciting! Fingers crossed! 

 Congratulation! I'm happy to hear it went well. I personally felt much more relaxed after my consult. It's great to hear he's expecting a December (estimate) surgery because a month ahead of you and I was hoping for November / December. My all day session is Tuesday (9th). Congrats again :)
