Hi Tracey!  Here is a recipie that I copied from another message board.  It's going to be high on my list of things to try!  :)

Sauté fresh spinach in vegetable or chicken broth (I also threw in some garlic and shallot), when done add nonfat ricotta and a bit of Parmesan cheese and blend/purée with an immersion blender.

Spread puréed mixture in bottom of a small casserole pan and cover with prepared spaghetti sauce (no sugar added) and top with a little more Parmesan cheese. Bake until bubbly.

OK...the surgery part is actually the easiest part...HONESTLY....no real pain from the surgery for me...but learning how to drink water without taking a lot of air too...not so easy...HARD actually...that is where I had the pain...and it was painful, but only for about 2 days....being on the liquid only for 2 weeks is hard too...you can only drink so much before you feel like you are going to explode....The all day session is long and information overload....it is really too bad that they can not spilt the sessions up so that the people in each session are all having the same surgery, but I guess some people have not made up their minds before so...you will get ALL the information about all 3 surgeries...a little confusing, but take some note to refer to after.....My only suggestion is that after the full day session, your next stop is the Physcolist. (sp) and with the regualr girl being out on Mat leave...there are a few new ones....my girl was worreid that I was a binge eater!!??  I have never been a binge eater...but it held me up for 2-3 weeks while she "monitered" my food journal......I started Atkins right from then and keep it up wil my surgery...I LOVE choclate and Atkins is the only thing I have ever tried that took away my cravings and I NEVER was hungry...from Feb to May April I was able to lose about 20 lbs then the shake diet I went down another 13 ...so it was all good...NOW I stated up inthe mid 300's so I have a longer road...

But really it is all good and just ask, Monique will tell you anything you are worried about...they are great...

Keep me updated and good luck

Thanks everyone...Thursday is coming soon...I can't wait....and I totally agree with the gas thing, Michelle...it is hard to drink my water as I am burping the whole time after and almost feel sick......the chicken broth is getting very boring and tasteless, even with the extra pepper....I do have a bullet and plan to make good use of it.  I am going to make a pot of spaghetti sauce tomarrow for the family and have some set aside for me too...I had heard too that the Chilli at Tim's is good and the size is good too....It sill be interesting....

HOw long do you wait til you can have a salad??  Just asking??? I do back to get the staples removed on the 29th...so I may start writing down some questions.....

It was the puree stage that I really missed textures of food!!!  Some options that I had included:

    cottage cheese,
    egg custard (protein)
    scrambled or poached eggs
    greek yougurt (higher in protein)
    sweet potato/yam

Plus if you have a Magic Bullet or blender you can puree most anything, lol
be careful with potatoes as if "puree/whip" too long they become like starchy glue
invest in some good gravy for turkey/chicken as need the moisture and flavor
    clam chowder
    stews or soups

I still have a shake most days with milk, protein powder, peanut butter and banana to really get a packed full protein "meal" that is easy to get down without worrying so much about the gas factor as it can still send me for a loop if I swallow air ... sometimes wish I had practiced burping more, lol.

Good luck, remember the journey continues to get better :)

     Hi,

I hope all is going well!

    - Tuna Salad
    - Egg Salad
    - Spaghetti sauce with ricotta cheese and a bit of mozza, heated to bubbling
    - Soups strained
    - Refried beans with melted mixed cheese
    - Greek yogurt
    - Smoothies
    - Hummus (teaspoon)
    - Spoonful or two of flavoured cream cheese (kind of sounds gross but it was good to kind of suck on it and it melted in my mouth) I bought the smoked salmon.

I also ate chili a few times. I think I told you before, in week 4, I mashed shipwreck dinner and baked beans and beef vegetable soup, all with lots of whatever sauce they were cooked in. I could only eat a couple of bites but once I got on to this stage, life was much better! I stayed to this stage for weeks 4 and 5. Than I think end of week 5 I started eating fish and things such as meatballs in a sauce and a bit of chicken. I still have a hard time with chicken, so much so that I really don't bother eating it. I can only have a small bite or two, so I don't get any protein from it.

I think I mentioned that I found this stage hard, mostly because of going from all liquids to a thicker food entering my belly. It was a bit of adjustment but nothing that you won't be able to work your way through.

Good Luck! Call or write if you need anything.

The only thing I really enjoyed was chili pureed. It is not that much different than it always is and the look doesn't turn you off. I also liked mixing fruit with yogurt... I tried Greek yogurt but I found it a bit bitter... it was packed with protein though so I went for it anyway.

I also usually had the just add milk/water baby oatmeal mixed with apple sauce.

    Good luck!!

Never really had a bit of pain from the surgery itself, and I was up walking within 8-9 hours after the surgery, so the gas/air that they pumped in didn't bother me either...but the pain was from trying to drink water the first 48 hours after surgery...WOW it is painful if I got a little bit of air at all...not nice....I was never put in the ICU recovery area and I think the nurses up on the other ward were not as up on what I could/should be doing....they didn't want to give me water til Monique stopped by late in the day of my surgery....

.Anyway...really hard to get any protein in, and all the water...I am using some protein powder in almost everything...and Thursday I am on "soft" food...so that will be nice...I haven't had any real food since about April 25th ....so even some whipped potatoes would be nice.....

I am sure you will get the call for the next session soon.....from my full day session time to surgery was about 5 months....you could be done before XMAS!!!!!  YEAH...

Good luck and if you have any questions just ask...all I can tell you is how it was for me...

They should have a list of things to give you in case they forget to tell you something!!

I got Senokot, but only had to use it once i think. I prob should have used it more, but didn't.

Holly!! down 17 lbs in 1 week!! Yikes!! You will be at you weight goal in no time if that continues!! LOL

I still struggle to get all my water in at 3 months post op.

It gets better day by day and you will be able to consume a little bit more each day.

Hope everything else went well for your surgery!

So I am by no means a "Vet" to this whole game...but just a small word of advice that somehow got missed in my prep for surgery...by some Senokot S before the surgery and don't be scared to use it....PLUS..you can buy some Benefibre singles and add that to you daily water to try to help...I can laugh at it now...but boy oh boy was I in some major pain on day5 post-op...MAJOR and now the little friends down there are still VERY sore..got some Hazel Witch and Tucks for THAT problem....

On the flip side... I am down 17 lbs since surgery in 1 week...YEAH...not hungry, but struggling to get the water and any protein into me.....OH WELL...

     Hi!

Moncton is a great place to be!

    Congrats on your weight loss!!

The Dr-Georges-L-Dumont-Regional-Hospital here in Moncton actually has 1 Dr that does weight loss surgery.

I know they have support groups, but i have been unable to attend as i work nights.

    Topic: Moving to Moncton!
    Hi Everyone!

I currently live near Toronto, Ont and I am moving to Moncton within the next couple months! I was hoping that I could get some information about what support is available down there.

I would love to join a support group if there is one as I don't know ANYONE in Moncton and would love to meet some new friends.

I had my surgery in September 2011 and I am down 107lbs.

Is there a hospital down there that does the surgery or do you have to travel for it?

Thanks everyone for any information you can provide me! I really look forward to meeting new people!
