I keep reading on the boards about people doing a "liquid diet" before surgery. Does Fuzz do this? And does anyone know WHY this is done? The idea of doing it doesnt bother me, but I am really curious to know what the purpose of it is. Lisa L.

Hey Lisa, The liquid diet is to help shrink your liver, in the hopes of avoiding an open procedure. If your liver is too fatty they have a hard time moving it and working around it. I am not aware of a liquid stage prior to surgery with Fuzz, he only advised to not gain any weight and to eat sensibly Hope you are well and that I get to see you at the meeting on March 23. That is also my post op day Take care, Glenda

Well now, that does make sense. At this point, I am planning on being at the meeting on the 23rd. That's your post-op day?! Awright! Lisa L.

Lisa, I have been am on the liquid diet for two weeks. I have been told the diet does shrink the liver but it also gets you ready for your new diet after the surgery. I have heard some doc's do request it and some don't, I am telling you , now , I love my doctor ( Melkonian ) BUT .... this has been so hard for me I would maybe would have gone to a doctor who did not require it , I know some may be mad at me for saying this but , honest THIS DIET SUCKS I know it will in the end be well worth it , and I only have today and tomorrow to deal with as my surgery is on Tuesday , and I will tell you now , if this diet shrinks the liver, mine should be the size of a pea My girlfriend who is a doctor told me yesterday , fat around the liver is burnt quickly when the body is without fat intake, and also the intestine and bowel get a super rest when you are liquids and it prepares them for the trauma of surgery. ( it is great having a best girlfriend since 5th grade become a doctor , you get all kinds of advice free, THANKS Judy ) ... anyways, the liquids are on for me , and I will admit I am a smoothie expert now. Happy Sunday to you and All, Take care . The Pugs Momma

Thanks for the info! I am curious, what does this liquid diet of yours consist of? Are you just drinking slim fast type stuff or are you making the smoothies with extra protein or ......? Lisa L. (also a doggie momma)

Dr Fernandez was my surgeon. No liquid diet, no bowel prep, no liquid diet afterwards...just nothing by mouth (NPO) after midnight. I liked that. Susan
