Its been almost 2 years! Hard to believe. I am on NO medications and feel good most days. I go up and down between 135 and 142. Only weigh about once a month. Best wishes to all of you. Susan

Topic: JUST DROPPING IN TO SAY HELLO......POST OP 15 MONTHS
HELLO ALL! Just dropped in to say hi. To be honest I hate the new site and have been away for a while. I guess I could get used to it. I am 15 months post op and having no problems. Holding my own...stay at 137-143....varies from week to week....think it is the foods I eat (as well as my IBS).

Hello all! I have been off the board for about 3-4 weeks. My husband has been out of work for 3 months and now Im also working a part time job as well as my regular job. Im am tired and stressed out. I also was put on Prednisone for a while which makes me hungry. I am at 142 today. No health problems. Was due my 1 year appt 4 weeks ago but with 2 jobs had no time to go. Plan a visit June 8th. Trying really hard to hang in there...need my husband back at work....trying not to be angry but its hard when Im leaving for my 2nd job and hes on the sofa watching TV. On a lighter note..................How is everyone? Susan

On April 25th of last year I had my surgery at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Dr. Fernandez and his staff were and are wonderful. I am at a normal weight and weigh between 135-139 on any given day. I have stopped weighing so much. I no longer take medicine for high blood pressure, diabetes, GERD or elevated lipids. I have less joint pain and can touch my toes. My life is the same...it didnt solve my day to day problems but it did make me healthier and to feel better. I have been working in the yard and doing things that would have been uncomfortable for me. Best wishes to all of you who have had the surgery, are thinking about it...or have it planned. Take Care! Dr Fernandez was my surgeon. No liquid diet, no bowel prep, no liquid diet afterwards...just nothing by mouth (NPO) after midnight. I liked that. Susan

Hi all!! Need to talk to friends who are in the same situation. All day (and I do mean all day...it was a 24 hour shift) on Saturday I heard comments....Are you haveing problems with your surgery? Are you losing too much weight? Are you sick from your surgery? Are you eating too little? ALRIGHT!!!!!!!!! STOP ALREADY!!!!! I AM SICK OF THES COMMENTS!!!!!!!! I worked 72+ hours last week. I hadnt slept much or even well when I did. I AM FINE!!! I AM BETTER THAN FINE...I AM GREAT!!! I JUST NEEDED SLEEP. So do these people not understand that I get tired, sick, insomnia etc just like everyone else???? My surgery is something I had done....it is not my entire life. I am at a normal weight for my height. I am tired of people saying I am too thin. I am finally at the place all the doctors and charts say I should be...for the very FIRST time in my life. I weigh less than I did in the 5th grade. Just needed to ventilate...some of you have probably been there. My weight is stable. I am eating about anything...just small portions. I went for an abdominoplasty consult. 5,500 was the quote. I may have it done...just need to decide if can take time off from work. All is well here. Headed for Lake Tahoe the 15th. Husband is having surgery on his shoulder this week and cant do his job for a while. We are taking advantage of his time off by going away. Brandie, First may I say....DONT gain weight on purpose...they look at a history of obesity...not just your weight now. Secondly...get a new accurate height somewhere..you may not be what you think. Your health problems may not qualify you for BCBS but your weight may. I was exactly a BMI of 40...I had lost a few pounds before seeing the surgeon. Do you have any sleep problems? Borederline high blood pressure? Have you had your blood sugar checked? Is you arthritis in your knees??.has it been documented by a healthcare provider? Do you have GERD? Do you have problems with your bladder leaking? These may all be problems you need to talk to your surgeon about...are they documented on a chart somewhere? If you are having any of these problems see a doctor, PA or NP about them now and get them documented. I also think yur surgeon would go by the 5-6 height.. Susan 233/137/133 5-4 1/2 chart said 5-4

Hi Sarah, You have my support. My mom and dad were my biggest supporters. By the way, they live near you....Newland/pinola area. Want their support? LOL They think the surgery is wonderful. I never felt like my surgeon and dietician just wanted my money...they really care, especially the psycologist. Where are you having the surgery? Hope it gets better...just remember..this is about and for YOU!! Get your support from this site if you cant get it anywhere else. We are for you!! Best Wishes and keep up informed. Susan

I see Dr Fernandez at Wake Forest. You can check out their website about their bariatric program. There is an information/support group meeting every month. Feel free to email me if you want further information. I am a nurse practitioner and I think their program is very good. Susan
