Topic: RE: caffeine

Susan, Dr Fernandez says no caffeine. It can irritate the new stomach....ask him or Susan but I think they said to avoid it...not just immediately post op. Susan

Topic: RE: Calling All 'Fuzz'natics....

Wish I could...I am working a 24 hour call shift that day Please let me know when you do it again or change the date. By the way...they quote is an old one an not by Susan Maria (even though she may have said it). It is a quote from Jean Niditch (sp) the founder of Weigh****chers...quoted in the 1970s. Susan

Topic: RE: Self Paying-How much did your center charge?

Lori, Call Wake Forest Medical Center (Baptist), and ask for the department of general surgery...ask for the office of Susan Butler RN FNP. Leave her a message and she can sent you out an information packet. You can talk to someone in the billing/financial office about self pay. My total was about 32,000...I did have to stay for 5 1/2 days..dont think that varried the cost too much though. Susan

Topic: RE: NEED HELP AND IDEAS OF WAYS TO RAISE FUNDS FOR SURGERY

Nancy, I had to get a 2nd job to help finace my surgery. I had a total of 1,725 out of pocket plus only 1 week of paid days off at work. I have been known to sell on ebay and have bake sales, yard sales etc to make money for projects or trips. I am in the process of raising 2,500 for a medical trip to Croatia and have raised 700 of it through a craft and bake sale. I am collecting items for ebay now. Whatever it takes. Susan

Topic: RE: I'm in mourning

Tina, Remember...its just a scar from your umbilical cord. My mom doesnt have one and shes ok ..it was removed during surgery. If it bothers you that much then go back later when you are healed and healthy and have one made... Susan

Topic: RE: For The First Time in 5 Months....

I am in the same situation. I just switched to Aetna. They will cover the surgery, but the PCP I picked does not believe in WLS. She has given me a referral to see a surgeon, but she prefers I just rejoin Weigh****chers. Any suggestions?

Topic: RE: Fatigue

When is your next meeting?... I would like to come. I live in Fort Washington. For the past 2 months I have been in the research phase. Now I am know that the Lap-Band is the way that I will go in 2006. It will be nice to meet others that are going to have the same procedure, or have already had the procedure. I just need to know what to do next. This might be a great start!

Topic: RE: Gallbladder scan ????

I think Its an insurance thing....if its not broke then dont fix it. You may pay for it....or ask about that if its worth it to you. you would already have the anesthesia and OR paid for. Susan

Topic: RE: 9 days to go

Bill, Here is a list of things i found helpful: In the hospital I took and used a small electric fan that clipped onto the siderail of the bed, blistex for dry lips, slippers with no skid bottoms, very loose clothes to wear home (your abdomen may be distended), normal self care items....deoderant, toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, lotion (my skin was very very dry), pjs, robe, some form of distration (for me it was a CD player with headset), your own comfortable pillows (two). At home I found these things helpful: small babby spoons to encourage small bites, a sippy cup to lear to take small sips...(didnt have to use this long...maybe one week..you may not need it if you are good about not gulping), more blistex, more lotion (dry!!), neosporin for the healing incisions..helps these heal faster, very small less than 1/4 cup plastic storage bowls to put my serving in...like pudding, jello yougart etc, A few small amount of protein powder or drinks....do NOT but much...you may not like them!! Bottled water...the best to drink, something to read while you rest and recover, soups, cheese, SF jello, SF pudding, ricotta or cottage cheese. Remember to buy small amounts, if not you will waste a lot! A good pair of walking shoes. I would also encourage a tasteless protein powder to add to your soups, puddings etc...like egg white protein. If I think of more ideas I will let you know. Best wishes and email me anytime. Susan

Nancy, I know how frustrating all the waiting is...to me it was the hardest part. Harder, even, than the surgery and post op itself. I will remember you. Susan

Topic: RE: Surgery in Three Days.....AND....

Russ, As you can see i am almost 4 weeks post op. i had my surgery at Baptist (Wake Forest). Keep your mind busy..read a book, take walks, go browsing at the hardware store, play boardgames, go to the movies, browse the library, go to the zoo, go fishing.....anything to keep you busy. activities outside the house are best if you can....sitting at home you tend to stop doing what you planned and start "thinking" and worrying. Like the Niki commercial says.............Just Do It!! Take someting for sleep the night before surgery if you need it...just take it before you have to stop drinking and get a script if needed. best wishes! Susan
