Bill,
Here is a list of things i found helpful:
In the hospital I took and used a small electric fan that clipped onto the siderail of the bed, blistex for dry lips, slippers with no skid bottoms, very loose clothes to wear home (your abdomen may be distended), normal self care items....deoderant, toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, lotion (my skin was very very dry), pjs, robe, some form of distration (for me it was a CD player with headset), your own comfortable pillows (two).
At home I found these things helpful: small babby spoons to encourage small bites, a sippy cup to lear to take small sips...(didnt have to use this long...maybe one week..you may not need it if you are good about not gulping), more blistex, more lotion (dry!!), neosporin for the healing incisions..helps these heal faster, very small less than 1/4 cup plastic storage bowls to put my serving in...like pudding, jello yougart etc, A few small amount of protein powder or drinks....do NOT but much...you may not like them!!
Bottled water...the best to drink, something to read while you rest and recover, soups, cheese, SF jello, SF pudding, ricotta or cottage cheese. Remember to buy small amounts, if not you will waste a lot!
A good pair of walking shoes. I would also encourage a tasteless protein powder to add to your soups, puddings etc...like egg white protein.
If I think of more ideas I will let you know.
Best wishes and email me anytime.
Susan
