Topic: Does Medicaid cover revisions?
I'm curious does anyone know if Medicaid will cover a revision? I had the lap band 5 years ago and I'm thinking the bypass would have been the better choice for me

I'm sorry, I have no suggestions. My company excludes bariatric surgery as well. I am self-paying for a my surgery in Mexico. Just thought I'd say hi to a fellow Omahan and send you my best wishes!

Topic: Insurance denied - now what?

I work and live in Omaha and work for a company that is self insured that excludes weight loss surgery.  Two of my docotors have told me that is what I need and I am now considering looking for a new job with a company that has insurance that does it cover it.  I have no idea where to start to do this research.  Any suggestions??

Topic: RE: MEDICAID AND MEDICARE SURGEONS LIST!

Hi!!!!

As of right now, neither branch medicare or medicaid are allowing (paying for) the sleeve gastrectomy.  Yes, it is true medicare said that they will allow is BUT each CAT gets to decide if they want to or not.  Right now, the CAT that NE is in has decided no, but it is up for review in February.

:)

Topic: RE: Support groups in the Omaha Area

YES!!!!!  UNMC Bariatrics holds a support group meeting every 2nd Monday of the month!!!  We learn a lot of things from speakers and more things from our peers.  I you need information, please call the office they will let you know when the next meeting is and what the topic is!!!  The number for the bariatric office is  402-559-9500.

Topic: RE: Question about Medicaid

Ah Medicaid!  They require:

6 months of Supervised Weight Loss

5 Year History of Obesity (Which is less fancy jargon, means documentation that shows that you have been overweight for at least five years.  You can get this from your PCP or from any other Doctor you've been seeing regularly as long as they have your weight documented and the weight places you in an obese weight range.

Psychological Evaluation

Nutritional Evalualtion

If you are Nebraska Coventry Medicaid you will need  some extra testing that that they will help you with at the doctors office.  ( I know this because  friend of mine had to go through it when we did this together.)

The Nebraska Medical Center has a FANTASTIC information session and when I was going through my process the staff there was so helpful.  At the time the coordinator was Stacy P, but now it's this very kind and sweet woman named Jamiela and she will help you through and she is always so pleasant on the phone.  They hold their information sessions every 2nd thursday of the month and they have their support group every 2nd monday of the month!!!!

Doctors Corrigan McBride and Vishal Kothari with the University of Nebraska Medical Center both accept Medicare and Medicaid Patients.

Their phone number is 402-559-9500

The are with the University Nebraska Medical Center and The Nebraska Medical Center.  Their office is located on 5th floor of the Durham Outpatient Center.

The address for them in their offices and for their staff is:

983280 Nebraska Medical Center

Omaha, NE 68198.

*They are also a center of excellence, and a Blue Distinction Center.

They are amazing Doctors and have an incredible staff!  Their information session is very informative and they have plenty of time to answer any of the questions you may have.

I had surgery with Dr. Kothari (Sleeve Gastrectomy 2010) and I am down 150 at a nice weight of 130lbs.  And I kept it off.

Topic: RE: scheduled to have surgery on jan 23rd

I'm here for both of you if you need me. I am from Nebraska and had VSG on August 13, 2012 at St. E's in Lincoln. The BEST thing I ever did for myself.

I'd love to tell you to not be nervous but its just natural. Keep positive thoughts and follow the directions of your surgeon. Follow the eating/drinking schedule set up by the nutritionist and the surgeon and the days will go by fast.

Good luck to you both!

I am scheduled to have my DS on Jan 30th so I will be a week behind you.  I too am interested in support on this journey.

I'm really nervous about having surgery but excited about losing weight and being able to do things that I have not been able to do for a very long time.   I too am a mother to 3 and a grandma to 3.   I have 3 boys....2 married and in their 30's and one 18 and a senior in high school.   I am very lucky to have a very supportive family plus 7 siblings who are very supportive too.

2013:  20 Funny New Year's Resolutions

When it comes to New Year's resolutions, our family members and friends can get quite creative and even funny with what they resolve to do in the New Year.  Here a few good ones I have heard along the way...Oh, and a few of my own!

1.  I resolve to stop procrastinating about procrastinating!

2.  I will stop sending Facebook messages and emails to my loved ones when they are in the same room as I am!

3.  I will use my treadmill for something other than a place to hang my jacket.

4.  I will not sit at the kitchen table in my PJ's all day.  Instead, I will move my computer to my bedroom.

5.  I vow to never take a laxative and a sleeping pill on the same night!
