Topic: RE: New to NJ board
I had surgery November 2008 and am down about 190 lbs from my highest weight (not the pre-op weight)

It is sad that my BFF is not really my BFF anymore but I would not change what I have done for the world!

Good luck to you, everyone here is great and willing to offer help...

Thanks,
Stella

I  can so relate having issues with friends, I have had some issues with my BFF and it sucks! I was always the fat friend and I feel like she has issues with me being smaller than her now.. it stinks but I can not let it get me down or mess with my head.. don't let it get to you either!

Good luck!

Hi Tom,

Thanks, you can do it... I did not run the whole thing... I did it in intervals, no way I could run that far strait.. I think I would die first....

See you in a few weeks!

I think I am going to the OH event in NY this month but was wondering if anyone wants to share a room Friday night??

I thought I would leave the Morristown area around noon or 1 on Friday and stay the night...

Anyone up for it??

BTW, I did a 1/2 Marathon two weeks ago and it was awesome!!! who would have guessed ( I ran about 1/3 of it and walked the rest ) did it in 3 and a half hours!

Thanks,
Stella

Topic: RE: made my final choice
Congrats to you!  I think making the choice is the biggest step, after that it is done it is pretty much a hurry up and wait game to get to the OR.

Tom C. has a great listing of all the support groups in the state but if you every have a specific question and can not make it to a meeting just post it here and we will answer...

I am a nut and just re-read what you posted, do you have some specific questions already??  IF so feel free to PM me or e-mail me..

Good luck, I have to tell you having RNY was the single best thing I have ever done in my life (minus my daughter) and I would do it over in a heart beat !

Topic: RE: New group starting in Northern New Jersey.
I am going to be at the Jersey Shore that weekend, the following weekend is free for me then I am off to Disney in sunny LA for the next two weekends., Get to see my parents and cousins that have not seen me in two years.,.,  Last time I saw them I was down 100 lbs now I am down about 180 and have had skin removed, I think I was a size 16 last time I was out there and now I am a 2 or 4. Cant wait to see them and go on all the rides, my daughter is going to flip her lid when she gets there, first it is a supprise that she is going on vacation, then it is a surprise that she gets to see Grandma and Grandpa and an even bigger surprise that we will be spending the week a block from Disneyland and going there for 4 days !!!

YEA FOR VACATION!!

Have fun on the walk and don't forget the water!

Topic: RE: Protein Suggestions Please!!!
I had the nectar's that were clearish when I was on clear liquids but I didn't really stress about it till I was able to have full liquids, I like the GNC 100% whey the best. I will confess I put it in my coffee at this point but not when I was early out.

Protein is never tasteless but after a while you become immune to it sort of.

Good luck!

Chuck and Tom,

I have not picked any dates or times and the idea was to get as many people floating in as we could so that people would be up and moving. I was really thinking early morning on a Saturday or Sunday every week or every other week and then maybe one night a week but I would need help to go as a trail leader since I have so many other commitments but I thought this could be a family event since I have such an issue with childcare...

Let me know your thoughts...

Topic: RE: NE GOOD PLASTIC SURGEONS IN NJ ??
I used Dr. Fodera in Florham Park, he was great!!! I happened to be the 50% that had an issue (no fault of him) and he handled it so well. I have the whole story behind my plastics on my blog.

I had a LBL and his office really helped me get some of it paid by my insurance company as well as they were there to answer all my questions, as recent as a few weeks ago when I had an infection in one of my incision lines. I can not say enough good things about him and his office, Dee is his right hand was so nice and really made me feel like I was a human and not a paycheck ~ when  I went to a few other offices for consults I felt like a payday and not a person.

I will say, if I had one piece of advice to offer... wait till you are at a point where you are done getting rid of your excess weight, your results will be so much better. I have seen people who did not wait and their results are less than impressive.

Good luck, feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions.

Topic: RE: walking group
Hello NJ,

I want to start a walking group... I am doing the 39+ mile Avon walk for Breast Cancer again this year on top of the Rock and Roll 1/2 Marathon and I need some walking buddies to keep me motivated.... So I want to start a group to walk together, it would be a great way to get out and see other people who are in your same shoes and get some exercise... I thought we could use the state parks and do it early in the AM on the weekends, the reason for the state parks is no matter where you are in NJ you are close to a state park so sometimes it would be close and other times it would be a drive, this way it would be fair for all... nothing is set in stone at this point it is an idea and a dream of mine to get people moving!

Please e-mail me at shrinkingstella@gmail.com if you are interested.

Thanks,

Stella

PS.... shameless plug, if you want to make a donation please go to www.avonwalk.org/goto/shrinkingstella  I have not started fund-raising and have to raise $1800 to participate in the 2 day walk.

Topic: RE: Are Carbs More Addictive than Cocaine?
I read this when it came out in March and I do believe that carbs are addicting BUT I am with TOm, I need some carbs or my body gets cranky and so do I !!

I do choose to limit my carbs to only things that are low glycemic, high fiber, fruit based or whole grain. Some examples would be oats (steel cut are my fav) quonioa, apples and berries but I tend to stay away from things like potatoes, pasta, rice, carrots and watermelon. I will also say that I am a dumper so if I ate potatoes in any type of quantity (I can taste something while cooking or have one bite) I will be ill in short order.. so I stay far and fast away but it is also a good way for me to stay closer to my goal weight.

I so wish I could shed the last 7 or 8 lbs but I am having issue with them... I can't complain cause I have come so far but I will keep trying.

Thanks for sharing..

Topic: RE: Recommendations for VSG surgeons?
I did not have a VGS but I love Dr's Abkin and Bertha. I believe they now do VGS and their office was great when I had my RNY in getting my approval. They are in Florham Park so it is fairly close to Essex and Union county.

Good luck!

Topic: RE: horizon BCBS help
Call them and have them MAIL you a hard copy that contains the details of your plan so you exactly what is NOT covered. When you call get the name or operator number for the person you spoke with and write it down along with the time of the call incase it does not arrive at home in the expected time.

What is covered or not covered is based on what your specific plan dictates.

Best wishes on a fast approval.

Topic: RE: MAY 7 Support GROUP. Special Presentation - Don't Miss It!
sounds cool!

You say interactive, does that mean she is going to teach some Reiki to the group?? And you say they have free childcare, even if you are only there for the group??

Thanks,

Before or after, everyone has to go to their local polling place and vote... it is school board election night and school budget election too...

It is very dear to my heart this year since I am running in Newton for the Board of Education.. so if you live in Newton please go vote for me....

Thanks,

Topic: RE: Plastic surgery & Blue Cross/Blue Shield
Hello Lisa,

I did not have BCBS when my plastic surgery was done but I will say that everything is plan specific. You have to read your specific plan and work with your surgeon to seek approval. For example, when I started looking at plastics I had BCBS and the plan I had said that it covered skin removal if it was medically necessary then I changed companies I worked for and the new company's plan said that skin removal was not covered "regardless of need" so when my husband got a new job I read every plan available before I selected the plan I picked and the Oxford plan I selected covered a portion of my surgery. I ended up having a lower body lift and had to pay about half of the surgeon's fee but none of the hospital fee.
The approval process is pretty intense, they take pictures and need documentation as to the reasons why you should have the skin removed. Make sure you have documentation..

Good luck,

Stella

PS. about the only thing insurance covers fully is a pannius removal so plan on some out of pocket...

Topic: RE: Dr. Oz Show
I jus****ched it on my tvo, I thought it was good but I was sad that they did not talk about the mental issues and they did not talk about the other WLS options.
But... it is always good to get good press..
