I feel for you....I would say that if its a yr or 2 wait it would be best for you to have a baby now but im not a DR ....could you call Kara and ask her, she is the bariatric cordinator for all this or even e-mail her....If you need the e-mail let me know k.
Topic: RE: my request went in as soon as MCP decided they'd cover surgery
Hi....Yes MCP does cover WLS...VSG.  You have to have a bmi of 40 to 60 to qualify and your age is fine...Im not really sure what the age creteria is but 25 is good. You first need to get a referal from your family DR sent to Dr Pace, and then wait for the bariatric team to call with a mandatory orientation meeting...this could be at least a yr for all this to happen and then you will get all the info from that meeting...Good luck...like you I have struggled with my weight and Im now waiting for my call for surgery. Also when your family Dr sends the referal I would call a few weeks later to make sure they recieved it.....Good luck :)

Also I want to add....It seems everyone has a different time/ date...so I think we are all put in who the Doctors want , so just because I had my referal/ liquid etc doesn't meen I will be done before you guys....It just depepnds on the situation is what Im gathering and I would just go through the process with trying not to worry about dates cause trust me it's way too stressful.
    Topic: RE: shakes
Mandy, you can use splenda....my fav shake was/ is ......1 scoop vanilla protein powder, 3 frozen strawberries, 3 ice cubes, 1 strawberry source yogurt and a bit of water or almond milk to make it more liquidy. Also for the chocolate ones I always added a tsp of sf/ff vanilla pidding powder to my shakes for that extra sweetner,

Hi Guys....The journey is long I'm not gonna lie...I had my referal in last June and still waiting on surgery....I did my mandatory orientation meeting then my 2 week liquid trial and I saw Dr Boone and signed my O.R papers and they say I still have at least 6 to 12 months waiting for my surgery...very frustrating but I'm trying hard to get myself strong and healthy for my surgery...Sorry this is prob not what you guys want to hear...the first step is the referal so you guys are on the way.

Hi Jenn, Sounds real good...I'm in Ontario right now because my brother is terminal with cancer but will be flying back and forth...I did have a good chat with the nurse practitioner and am hoping my time will be soon for the wls....please keep me posted if you can on where and when the meetings will be and I'll see if I will be in St John's at the time. I'm even more disable due to a recent fall here in Ontario so hoping the meetings will be in a wheelchair accessible place if possible...If not maybe we could chat and you could let me know how it all goes....thanks for the great effort in doing all this for everyone. Carrie
Topic: RE: How to build muscle from sitting position.
Trust me Terri, I'm no doll in my swim suit...lol....rolls everywhere, eeks...but the way I look at it is I need to get my body moving and the water feels so good....after I'm in the pool for like 15 Min's I feel the retaining fluids I'm holding start to feel relieved...of course I'm bursting for a pee by the time I get out but Its a wonder drug for me....the pool I go to has a walk in ramp so I'm not trying to haul all 275 lbs of myself out and I also have inherited my mothers huge rump so I'm sure that's a sight...lol....Everyone in the pool when i go is there  for the same reason...to stay active and healthy....If at anytime you want to give it a try if your in town ...MSG me the day before and I'd love to go with you.....oh ya plus the pool I go to has private showers and changing rooms...bonus :)
Topic: RE: How to build muscle from sitting position.
Good information Terri, thanks....I swim moderately a few times a week and a person at 275 lbs burns 759 calories...I also do water weights cause there's no pressure on my joints and that's how I build muscle...I love the water....too bad you live so far away we could swim together. :)
    Topic: RE: What's for Dinner?
Thanks for the information.....I have a few friends that have had the surgery and 1 can't eat meat well, the other carbs so Its interesting how different bodies react to the surgery....I'm looking forward to my call and my new healthy life.  :)

Hi Terri, I'm still feeling frustrated but you know how that feels.....I'll try Janice again on Friday but like most days I get the same results:(    I'm going to wait till Oct and If nothing I"ll be starting the process of paying for my surgery in Mexico...I really need to have my life back before I get more depressed. I was excepted for Dr Christou in Montreal last year to do my surgery but his cost for me is 32,000 because I have Malignant Hypothermia which is an allergy to an agent in the anesthetic. So that sucks. Always something my dear. I'm not sure of the cost with someone with this allergy in Mexico but I sure hope its nothing or very little....the surgery there is 12,000 all inclusive with airfare and hotel so i guess I can look at it like a vacation...a very expensive vacation...lol...... Good luck on Thurday...I`ll be thinking of you....do u have to travel far to come here.
    Topic: RE: What's for Dinner?
So I was wondering If the whole wheat bread is something I wont be able to eat after my surgery also the same with the sweet potato fries( baked that is )?  I find I try to eat healthy foods and now that I'm dieting again for the 100Th time I'm trying to watch my portions....If I could loose even 20 on my own before surgery I'll be a head of the game :)
    Topic: RE: What's for Dinner?
I wish I liked mussels, sounds yummy....I had a club sandwich with lean turkey, turkey bacon, tomato, lettuce , fat free cheese slice and w/w bread and on the side I had a cup of sweet potato fries...baked of course.....Now for supper tomorrow, what a delima...lol.....Im lucky I love meat and veg's and also fruit...my biggest part is eating too much . I saw a dietitian a few years ago and she said my portions were for 3 people...but I must say I have never seen any person eat a 1/2 cup of rice with there stir fry.
I think maybe tomorrow I will have salmon , rice and broccoli. :)

    Topic: RE: so depressed Ugggg!!!
Hi Jenn.....I'm so sorry, my daughter in law just asked me to go to the pool in CBS with her and my grandson and I said yes thinking you wouldn't be able to come as quick as that...lol.....they are only in town till Wed of next week and the Auarena doesn't have public swim during the week right now  so she wanted to go ....I know the CBS pool is 20 Min's from me but not sure how  far it would be for you from the HSC....If its too much of an inconvenience...what about Monday? and also do you know If its a long walk from the parking lot to the pool ...I have a walker and sometimes I use a cane on good days and I use a scooter for shopping .....and is the Tim Horton's far from the pool?
    Topic: RE: so depressed Ugggg!!!

    Topic: RE: so depressed Ugggg!!!
Thanks Mary, I'm going to do a bit of research on Dr Joya and see how much It would cost me...I'm to the point where I was told you can't get your hip replacement/ bone transplant until your weight is off and my quality of life is now gone so I'm going to wait another month and if no call I guess I have to do what is good for me....If I could wait I would, but not being able to walk 5 feet with all the pain is not good. I had 13 surgery's in order to walk back when I was in an accident when I was 11 and now for the past 8 years have been in the same boat ...its just very frustrating to say the least.....Thanks again Mary....Carrie
    Topic: RE: so depressed Ugggg!!!
Hi Guys, Thanks for the couragement.....I have been calling and so has my family DR ever since last July when my specialist Dr Martin who is also the chief of surgery for HSC put a referal to him and I had my DR put one in Oct and also one in this past March....I call and the same thing as everyone else no apt yet....I just have to make a decision as to how long I can wait and pay for this myself if all else fails....I feel like 5 years ago I started this journey and saw Dr Pace and looks like my journey even with his partner giving him a referal Im not getting nowhere...If I could get an answer as to yes you will get an apt this year or no you will not....my decission will be easy...I'll be taking a nice warm trip to Mexico...lol or staying here on the rock. If I were just in need of loosing weight I could keep waiting but Im now not able to walk from my bedroom to kitchen without crutches, walker and sometimes I just hang on to the walls...lol .I need a very large surgery as I said before and my Dr will not operate until my weight is down.....I just need my life back....I started swimming cause Its good for people with bone problems and Im on a very low calorie diet trying to help myself once again but as we all know... Its not easy but I have to keep trying....Do you live in St John's....Im looking to meet a few friends here that are in the same boat.   Thanks for listening...Carrie
Topic: RE: No call for me
I had my first referal 5 years ago and also a referal from Dr Martin who is chief of surgery for the HSC and Dr Pace's partner in the WLS program also a new referal sent Oct 2010 and a new one March 2011 ...I have very good overall health, I'm about 270 lbs and  Its not looking good for me either, so I feel like no matter what I do nothing will help.....I'm now on my 100Th diet and also pretty close to looking into surgery in Mexico...I can't afford the bypass in Canada...Way too much money :(   Good luck with everything....I hope it all works out for you.
    Topic: RE: so depressed Ugggg!!!
Way too much conflicting information is right, but who is right?? I figure there is prob 100's of people like me in the same situation and are also very depressed over the whole situation. I just want this all to come to an end and start my way to a healthier me....I know I can diet but I always fail, I just need this tool to help me reach my goal like everyone else....I'm hoping to have a better day tomorrow. Thanks for the couragement Lord knows I need it....lol
    Topic: RE: so depressed Ugggg!!!
    Hi Everyone
Today I could just stay in bed and cry ...I know I need to stay positive but it's so hard...I've started diet number 100 I think prob is more like 200 but let's just say that. I feel like I'll never get the surgery been on the list for 5 years ....when will this end?? I'm on a 1200 calorie diet  Starving pretty much and I might be lucky to loose 1 lb a week so with that said...it would take me  2 years to loose my weight...I had so much hope for surgery with Dr pace but the more I read on here the more discouraged I get...I have put in a new referal and have done everything I know to do....I can't exercise due to my much needed hip surgery that my specials wont do until my weight is off and also I need a bone transplant on top of it all...arrrggg...reading this just made me more depressed...I've checked into paying for the surgery myself here in Canada but its way too expensive, I'm wondering now If I should take the risk and have it done in Mexico...I'm so desperate :(
Topic: RE: I GOT THE CALL!!!!!
Hi Jenn, Thanks for adding me as a friend....how are you feeling? I was wondering if the goal chart is what your weight was when you started your journey to the new you? I am around 15 lbs heavier then you so do you think I'm considered low risk like you? I don't have any medical problems per say...just bone problem and Arthritis from several surgeries. I'm trying to grab on to any hope here..lol..Did you have your surgery laproscopic and what is the pain level like? I hope you have a very speedy recovery.
