Topic: RE: Anyone else doing Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy?
     Hello,
My name is Lisa and I currently weigh 265lbs. I'm not at all happy with this weight. I am looking to get a weight loss surgery done, but I'm not sure of the cost or wait time. I was told a 3yr wait and that's only if I qualify. I read that you only had to paid $5000 and a 1week wait. Was your surgery in Canada? did this cost cover ALL the medical costs?or we're there any hidden charges?

    Thank you,
    Lisa

Just my word of advice...if you are having plastics please make sure they are a board certified plastic surgeon. Although some might have had an ok time with Dr A Macdonald, he is not a board certified plastic surgeron!

I had my plastics done by Dr Bendor Samuel at the landings. I wouldnt send my dog to him. I am now on a waiting list to see a surgeon at the hospital to fix what he did!! He left a huge outpouch of skin on one side of my incision line and did not do the mons lift he was suppose to. When i went to my post op visit he said the mons area was my fault because i must have gained weight and that i should stop eating things i wasnt suppose to. Very unprofessional and rude. He was willing to fix it though...for $5ooo more dolllars!!

Make room on the losers bench gang, I've been sleeved!   Surgery was on Wednesday, May 10th with Dr. Ponce De Leon in Tijuana.  I will be discharged this aftenroon, and am feeling alot better!  Waking up was pretty rough, had quite a bit of nausea and gas, but things have improved drastically.  I have some great sleeve siblings, a gal from Texas, a couple from Mississippi, and a great gal from the Valley!  Also, the staff here has been wonderful, especially Trish, what a doll!  I can't wait to get to the hotel this afternoon and head for home tomorrow evening.  I'll be sure to post some updates on how things move along!

Only had 1 so far but hope to do it again, we have a newbie who is only just in Mexico right now getting sleeved. I also put it to my DR that we are trying to get group together so she is going to put my contact info out to other Dr's in her practise.

Yes it is really sad that the NS goverment doesnt realize that funding the obesity network would overall help NS's medicare and healthiness of Nova Scotians.
What is even more discouraging is the bitterness some have towards the Obesity Network in that some had done some damage to it with their "complaints" making things slow down a bit more ...adding to the longer waitlists....things slowed to a hault last year with only one info session. (this is of my opinion being in the wlp last year and feeling the delays of things). It's nice to see things back on track and the team pushing what they can do, to help all that are on that long list. Hopefully the good stats of those in the wlp can encourage the government to give more funding.. so there can be more surgeries in NS.

We had a small coffee get together and chatted about our surgeries to a lovely lady leaving in 2 days for Mexico for surgery.  We will likely get together again.  If you are in our area and are interested in joining us for coffee and chat PM me or friend me and let me know.  Support is key in success.

If you flip over to the NB forums you'll see where there's a woman from ch'town going for VSG surgery on may 10th and another who had it February 14th (both in NB). I'm not aware of any support groups but there are starting to be enough of us to probably start getting acquainted.  I only have my appt for my initial consult so far. It looks like it typically takes about 9 mos from the first call to surgery - I'm anticipating surgery in February.

There is still a GNC in town, and I have to head to Shoppers this afternoon anyway to do my passport picture, so I'll have a look for the Isopure.  That's too funny that you lived in Freetown, a good friend of mine lives just up from the old Ultramar station, and I used to have one of my horses at a place on the Campbell Rd.  Small world!
