Hi Wendy

Divide the 181 by the 263 to give you the percent - (68.82%)subtract from 100 to give you the percent lost

You have lost 31% of your excess - and great fo you!!

Hi ... that seems low to me.  If her excess body weight is 102 lbs (263-161) and she has already lost 82 of thos pounds that would put her at about 80% of her excess body weight lost.  It seems that the 31% is closer to her total body weight lost.  Am I missing something?

You're right Dar. Since the excess was only just over a hundred, it's pretty much one pound = one percent.

LOL that's what I thought too...simple right LOL but then a few weeks ago I noticed someone had something in their siggy that they lost over 100% (I think it said something like 114%) of the excess weight and that had me wondering what they were talking about.

Hi kim if you wanted to get to normal BMI of 23 your excess weight was 142 and you lost 122 so you lost 116% of your excess weight if i am not mistaking.

Subtract your goal weight from your starting weight. ie. 300-150=150 lbs of excess weight.

If you've lost 50 lbs and weigh 250, you take 50 and divide by 150 x 100 for 33.3% of your excess lost.

Quick question re: the formula above (50/150x100)  Does the 150 represent the goal weight or the excess weight?
Thanks ... dar

150 in this case = the excess weight to be lost (ie. this person needs to lose 150 lbs of excess wt).

ie. in my case.

I have lost 62 lbs. I need to lose 160 of EWL so my calculation is:

62/160=0.3875 x 100 = 38.75%

I have lost 38.75% of my excess weight (EWL).

OMG Wendy,

I don't mean to throw a wrench in this, but the MIS Dietician calculates based on a BMI of 23 (some surgeon's office use BMI's of 21). So, you can do 2 calculations: 1) based on your own goal 2) based on BMI of 23 (which will align with Surgeon's/Dietician's calculation.

I just confirmed this at my last appt w Denise.

Take care,

Andrea.

21!!!!?? oh andrea!! *smacks you*

as if im EVER going to get to a bmi of twenty freaking one. LOL

just kidding. i love you.

ok so i have a bit further to go than i was claiming.

I will base it on a bmi of 23 from now on.  grrr *grumbles about bmis*

i just picked 24.8 cause its at the highest end of "normal"

thats all im hoping for at this point lol. if i can do better than that then thats just a bonus for me.

i knew there was a reason i havent gone to see denise. LOL

Hi Wendy,

Fortunately, our surgeons use 23! Not 21! They just need to use a constant number to measure all their patient's against.

But, please don't compare yourself to 23. Compare to your own goal. Just know that there may be a slight variation when you get checked out either at your surgeon's office or at the Dietician.

My personal goal was just within the 25 BMI range too. Now, if I can get down a bit further, that's great, but I'm not going to lose sleep if I don't.

Take care,

Andrea

87%.

BTW - height doesn't play into this at all. :)

You want to lose 225 lbs (360-135).

You have lost 196.

196 / 225 = 0.871 x 100 = 87%
