 Hi again Everyone,

For the past couple days, I have been having a LOT of gas and an upset stomach with a little bit of nausea. It comes and goes too. I have also been having a lot of diahrea.

Is this sort of thing normal, or should I call my bariatric center? Any suggestions?

Dave....

PS - i weighed myself this morning and I have lost 66 lbs since starting Optifast and about 26 since surgery.

Firstly congratulations for the weight loss. you are doing so well. About the gas, I get gas and nausea when i take my BA multi so it might normal at this stage. Still, you should call your centre just to be sure.

If this condition does not improve with OTC meds and diet modification in 24 hours I would definitely consult with your surgical centre - or at the very least your G.P.

Dave perhaps you picked up a bug somewhere. The diarrhea concerns me somewhat. Is there a chance you might be dehydrated? With the diarrhea and being a relatively fresh post op I would try drinking more water to try and stay hydrated.

I would for sure call your center and let them know what is going on.

Are you taking a PPI? I found I had to double-up on mine to get the nausea to stop. Keep an eye on your #2, if it becomes chronic (more than 3 days), I would contact your centre. Keep your diet pretty bland for the next couple of days and see if it clears up. Also keep in mind that you have increased fluid needs if you have diarreah.

Is it possible you might have become lactose intolerant? I know that this is a possibility after RNY...

I am quite sure that I have contracted a stomach bug. Quick Dissolve Imodium has made the diarhrea tolerable. I have avoided dairy all day and haven't gotten much better. I have spent the day focusing on drinking. I am not dehydrated. I am flying to Regina for our big move tomorrow, if I get worse I'll have my mother-in-law, a doctor, check me into the hospital. They have a bariatric center there.

I'll keep in touch and update you all,

Dave.....
