Question regarding giving B12 shots self administered?

I get my needles and b12 at walmart. I'm really surprised you can't find any at drug stores, I'm guessing you are just not asking for the correct thing. I have gotten them at two or three different places in Ottawa. The maker is BD (in New Jersey). They are in blue  packaging and are called "BD 1ml TB Syringe 25G x 5/8". From what I've read on the internets it should be intramuscular. So on a big person the needle should be 1". Mine are 5/8 of an inch, maybe suboptimal but it is working well.

I agree that you should have dr.'s orders before getting it but you do not need a script.

The serum I use is cyanocobalamin injection USP 1000mcg/mL. I hear cyanocobalamin isn't as bio-available as others but it does the trick for me.

Sorry I can't address your question, but I do have a question myself about the injections ...

I was of the impression that these were administered by our docs once a month -- and to that I was wonder what (if any) that cost was.

Or, does the doctor simply provide you with a prescription?

Guess what I am asking is, how did your serum?

ty!

You can purchase B12 over-the-counter without a prescription. I would however keep your doctor in the loop. They can tell you the appropriate dose and monitor your B12 levels

Your dr can give you the shot each month or rather his nurse. I go every month and they do it.  I am too much of a wuss to start injecting myself. Lol

ty for your responses ... if I do wuss out and have it done by doc/nurse, is there a cost or is it different from one medical clinic to another?

Going to reply/update my own prev post ... :)

Just got off the phone with my pharmacist ... says 10ml vial is about $5 and 20c/disposable syringe ... he'll also help me choose the right needle as well as where/how to use it ...

Having injected myself with Victoza, I can't be that much of a wuss ... the only difference here is that the B12 needs to be injected into a muscle ...

I think I'm all sorted now ... :)

No cost as it is paid for by OHIP.  Your dr writes out the prescription for b12 and you get it filled at drugstore.  So the only cost is the b12 which was $4.49.  Take it to the doc and the nurse keeps it in the fridge for monthly visit

I am a PSW and my own family doctor will not let me give myself these needles, cause only a nurse can do them becasue they are not just under the skin.

yes my family doc also will not let me do it myself.  Once a month I visit her nurse and she does it for me right in the office.
