Are plastics covered by OHIP

I'm just wondered, if after the weight loss, are plastic surgeries covered by OHIP?

I'm in Ontario ... OHIP ... ya, I figured you would guess that.

If medically necessary, a panniculectomy (removal of overhanging skin commonly referred to as an apron below your abdomen) is covered by OHIP. Under certain requirements a breast lift, reduction can also be covered in some cases.

You would need to get a consult with a plastic surgeon, and they send in the OHIP request.  Some surgeons have a consult fee, which they will take off your surgery fee if you have it.  If you do get approved, I've heard of people upgrading to a full tummy tuck, and just paying the difference.

My panni is approved through OHIP and I am upgrading to a full tummy tuck with mons repair and lipo on my flanks.

The wait is long for approval and if denied you can appeal.

Good luck

I went to several consults with different plastic surgeons. Incredible how costs varied!

One was $12,995 for the upgraded panni with mons repair, another was $5000. I am going with the $5k one. Even if I had alot of money, I wouldn't spend $12,995.

I was approved for the panni, but upgraded to the full tummy tuck.

My share was $4,500.  It included mons adjustment.   That was in Ottawa this summer...

Having arms/legs done later this year.  Don't have full price yet. Will gave more info in a couple of weeks.

In less than 2 weeks I will be getting a fleur de lis tummy tuck with muscle repair.  Panni is paid by Ohip.  I'm paying $4080 out of pocket.
