Effexor xr or Cymbalta pre/post surgery

Just wondering if someone out there took those meds prior or post surgery. How was the med handled. Effexor is extended release but I've read that after surgery the med works the same as before.  Also, anyone crush the Cymbalta?

Cymbalta capsules can be taken apart and the contents are granular and can be swallowed with liquid.

Thank you. Any stomach issues by taking them that way?

I take Effexor and you also take them apart and take with water or applesauce.  Since I take several meds I spoke to my pharmacist about them and he said it was ok.

Good luck,

Thank you Jane. My pharmacist told me that bot of those meds were not to be taken apart. I'm just so confused.  I think that they just don't want to be liable.  Did you see a difference with the extended release at all?

I didn't notice any difference at all.  Also, after about 4 weeks I started to take them normally again.

I use Exffexor extended release and I've been told to take them as is; no breaking them apart.

Immediately post-op I was on Effexor with no difficulties. As someone else mentioned, I open the capsule and swallowed the inner tiny "pellets" with water. I have also been on Cymbalta post-op (several years post-op) and took it whole with no absorption issues. I will give you this warning about Cymbalta however: Cymbalta is exceptionally hard on the liver. You are basically assaulting your liver with every pill you take. As a pre-op, not such a big deal. As a post-op whose liver is already working double-time, dangerous.
