Process at TWH?

Is the process the same at all of the hospitals? I am going through TWH and my orientation is on Jan 9/15.  I have been told that at my orientation, I will receive the next two dates for appointments, is this true?  I have read people at HR having to wait after their orientation for their next dates.

If you were at TWH, how did it work for you?

Hi Melly,

Yes, on the day of my orientation I was given my next 3 appointments (Social Worker, Nutrition Class, and Nurse Practitioner).  They were all booked for March 2015, I kept calling back and grabbed cancellations.

Once you have your Nurse Practitioner appointment, she will decide whether you require further testing (sleep test, scope, etc.) and you will receive your next set of appointments (psych, dietician, and surgeon consult).

Not sure if this is the same for everyone at TWH, but this is how it was worked for me.

My best advice...if you know you are ready for surgery, and don't need the time to kind of work through the process, call for cancellations whenever you can, you can definitely speed up the process.

My dates are in my signature.

I hope this helped at least a little :)

Thanks so much for the info.  So when you meet with the surgeon in February will he give you the surgery date?

Also, if it isn't too personal, why do you have to have a scope?  I know some people have it and some don't, what would be a reason that you have to have it?  Did you do a sleep test as well?

I'm hoping since all my other appointments will be completed by the time I meet the surgeon that I will be given the all clear and that he will then give me a date.

I did not have to have a sleep test because I do not have pre-existing sleep apnea, I don't snore, and my neck circumference is smaller than the "limit" before the sleep test is necessary.

I have a lap-band and the scope is to ensure that they can take it out and do the RNY in the same surgery, and that I don't have to have 2 separate procedures...fingers crossed for the former!!!
