Meeting with the Social Worker

I had my first appointment after orientation last week and it went very well.  It was an OTN appointment (Ontario Telemedicine Network) and other than going to the wrong location in the beginning (I should read my notes first), it went very smoothly.  I found it both informative and interesting as it is one of the several steps we have to make on this journey to first understand, become more aware of the choices we make and how we got to where we are now, and to know that we have a whole group of professionals who are trying to help us become as successful as possible in regards to our weight loss decisions.

I have read that some on the site are concerned about the questions and how to answer them.  I can only say be completely honest and don't have any concerns or anxiety going into it.  In order to be successful, I knew that I had to be honest.  I have been making strides, but don't have all of the answers and haven't made all of the changes.  Whomever you are speaking with wants you to be introspective, realistic and committed to this very important decision.  It isn't a test, but an education session and the chance to share and ask questions.  I'm thankful for those at TWH who are helping me.  As much as we try to ru**** the approximate year, in my opinion, is necessary as we all need time to learn, make changes, and comprehend all of the steps.  Life is good - even when you're fluffy.

Great attitude!!  And I agree, these past few months of preparation have been very life changing for me.

Prior to realizing I was a candidate for OHIP covered surgery, I had looked into getting a VSG at a private clinic in Toronto. It was as easy as a 5 min phone consult with the surgeon, filling out some paperwork and putting down a $1000 deposit and I could have the surgery in 4 weeks.

The timing was off so I didn't pursue it, and I have a 1000x thankful for that!!  Now I feel ready to succeed, but before I really would have been going in blind.
