Getting back on track

I had my surgery on May 21 2014 and have loved every moment of my journey.  Some bad habits have creeped back in so I am getting back on track.  Joined a gym and go 2 to 3 times a week, back to protein 1st and less of the bad stuff lol

My question is for someone almost 3 years out and who is moderately active how many calories should I consume a day?  I'm tracking on my fitness pal.

I'm not White Dove but have her formula ingrained in my brain!

Whatever your current weight is multiply by 10.  So  for example 180 lbs x 10 equals 1800 calories per day to maintain your weight.  Subtract 500 calories per day in order to lose 1 pound per week, so consume 1300 cal/day.  So basically what CC said....

Hope that helps!

**Edited because my brain was hungry!!

If you are stable at your current weight and have been for a while, it probably means that your body is in maintenance.  So to lose 1 pound a week, you need to consume 3,500 less calories a week, or 500 less per day.  Don't eat back the calories you burn after exercise, just think of those as a benefit expenditure.  Look at your MFP to figure out on average how much you consume daily and aim for 500 less.  You are welcome to join us on the What are you Eating/Doing Thread.  It is a great way to be motivated, supported, and also plan your meals and get great menu ideas.  We've got some vets on the thread that "tell it like it is" in a caring sort of way.

This ^^^^^^^ is the way to do it.

I don't buy your weight times 10 as the maintenance figure.  Everyone is different.

So, find what daily calorie allotment you require to maintain, then begin cutting.  If you don't know your maintenance calorie number, then experiment to find out.

If I went by that formula I would gain. Everyone is different. There is a lot of studies being done on the effect of exercise on weight loss. It is great for being healthy but not sure it helps a lot on weight loss.

Age can also make a difference. I m older so can not consume the number of calories I could consume when I was younger
