hello everyone. I woke up from a nap and my shirt was wet by my belly button I have an incision there. Half the tape was off. My dr used resolvable stitches. Well I pulled the rest of the tape off and there are slow drops of watery red liquid. I put some gauze on it. There is no pain there and I don't have a fever. Did this happen to anyone. I am 3 hours away from where I had the surgery done and really not interested in a car ride right. Ow.

Hi LeeAnn, I never experienced this.  Is there a phone number they gave you that you could call and ask?  TeleHealth maybe?

I've had multiple surgeries and have had this happen a few times.  I think it's called serous fluid or something like that.  They told me as long as it didn't get hot to the touch in that area that it wasn't infected and to just keep it clean.  When I had my tummy tuck, one small piece of the incision let tons of fluid out, it looked like a scene out of Kill Bill the way it was spitting out of me and apparently it's common for fluid to build up at incision sites.  If in doubt, definitely get it checked.

As long as clear to pinkish your fine. Sero-sanginous drainage. Is common. Just a collection of fluid. Wtch for any changes such as getting ***** warm, red or fever. Just keep clean and covered.

Agree with everyone above... I'm sure your hospital gave you this info but these main things to watch for:

  • Drainage of pus
  • Incision is warm to the touch
  • Incision area is swollen and red
  • Fever over 38 Celsius
  • Nausea/vomiting
  • Bad odor coming from incision
