I am still pre-surgery but thinking of taking a few lbs off. Not sure if protein shakes are a good way to go.

Which are your favs? Where do you buy yours? I really know nothing about this "area".

Thanks!

Pre surgery or post? What I liked before I can't even be in the same room as now.

Currently I am liking a variety. My fave of the moment is a chai one from Costco. It is a bit low on the protein so I will add a bit of unflavoured powder to bump it up. It is sweet and tastes just like those frozen chai latte things from McDs.

I ordered a sugar free Vanilla Chair syrup online and add it to the Vanilla Premier Protein; amazing!

I like the Premier protein shakes because they taste good to me, and have great stats; 30 grams of protein, only 5 carbs, 130 calories, and super low sugar (can't remember exactly). Chocolate is my favorite, but I also like vanilla and caramel (the caramel tastes like coffee to me for some reason, lol). Presurgery, I loved the banana cream and strawberry cream flavors but absolutely hate them now.

I have some protein powders here that I liked presurgery that I can't stand now.

I was suggested Boost for diabetics by someone at TWH! It's not overly sweet and have 16g protein (I think?)

I started using the Premier Protein Shakes from Costco before surgery, as I'm not a breakfast eater and thought this would be a good start. I don't care for the Vanilla, but the Chocolate is good, its like a less sweeter version of chocolate milk.

My dietitian did say, that I should have fruit with it, to make it a meal because the shake is low in carbs, and you need to get your energy from carbs. A lot of protein shakes aren't meant to be meal replacement shakes. Be mindful if whatever you choose, if its a meal replacement or not, so you can add something like a piece of fruit so your get all the benefits if chosing it as a meal, as opposed to a snack.

I am using it post-op to help get in my protein. Right now I do use at my breakfast without anything else (have no room). Many use the protein shakes as snack 1/2 of it for one snack 1/2 of it for another snack. Depends where you are post op. I couldn't drink a whole protein shake at one sitting, now I can at 10 weeks post op.

I'm not sure if protein shakes are the best way to lose a few pounds pre-op...if your a meal skipper than I think yes, its an easy way to get a meal/snack in.

Either way I wish you the best of luck in your journey!
