Good morning Pouch Pals!! I had a good weekend of camping and then was MIA yesterday. A bit of a slug, it involved a good book and a deck chair!!

Back at the gym this morning and into the routine. Will get out at lunch for 5+ kms if the rain stays away!

Eats today:

B - 4 oz beer can chicken (white meat, mmmmm)

S - 100 gr skyr vanilla with 2 oz blueberries

L - taco beef on cucumbers, with low cal catalina, shredded cheese and sour cream, again YUMMMM

S - 2 HB eggs

D - chicken cordon swiss

Good morning :)

I'm off to my grandparent's house to help move out some furniture. Their house is almost empty. They sold it a while ago but planned to stay until the end of this month. It's bittersweet. My grandpa built the house about 50 years ago...

Breakfast - protein shake

Snack - pepperette

Lunch - chicken

Snack - cheese, turkey

Dinner - zucchini lasagna

Snack - protein shake

All water and vits.

Good morning all,

I'm glad you had a good time camping - the book and deck chair also sounds wonderful - my kind of afternoon.

B - protein shake and decaf black

S - half an apple and 1 oz. cheese

L - 3/4 cup homemade chili

S - other half of skinned apple and 1 oz. cheese

D - turkey burger with Tzatziki and slice of tomato

Calories: 735, Protein: 86, Carbs: 48. All water and vitamins

I would appreciate your feedback on fruit in the first year. I haven't had anything other than slice strawberries with my plain Skyr and I have tried tinned mandarin oranges and unsweetened applesauce (now steering away from both). In my third month I may make 10 lbs., but continue to lose inches. My protein numbers are good as is, I believe, my calories. I meet with the NP on the 29th and the dietician at the end of July. I know TWH encourages variety - including fruit, vegetables and grains, but I am unsure if they slow down weight loss - especially in this "honeymoon" phase of our journey. Thanks, in advance, for any comments. I do love my fruit and vegetables, but can easily stay away from anything that doesn't contribute positively.

I do not think a little fruit is bad. However some people actually dump on too much so keep an eye on it. I would definitely stay away from mandarin oranges and applesauce for now. You can look at this when you are at goal. Try to keep your carbs as low as possible. I know chili adds carbs from legumes. Just remember not all carbs are equal.

Thank you Pam. I added my cheese to my chili instead and left the apple. I agree and as I never have sugar anyways (nor sugar substitutes), I think it is best.

I eat berries mostly (strawberry and raspberry so far; but want to try blueberry soon). I check other fruit in my fitness pal first before trying to see the sugar content, and yesterday had Watermelon (yum) but knew I couldn't have more than the equivalent of 1 cup at one time because of the higher sugar content. I'm ok with peeled apple but it depends on the type of apple; some have higher sugar content so I stay away. I tried mango once and never again, lol. It was too sweet and made me feel nauseated.

I try to have one serving of fruit (berries) or veggies every day. More than that slows my weight loss down, although yesterday I had 2 slices of my watermelon birthday "cake" (no cake, just mini watermelon cut into a cake shape, "iced" with lite cool whip). I spaced the slices out by 5 hours to prevent dumping from the sugar content.

I avoided most all fruits until about 6 mos (at least I think probably longer). Now I add berries occasionally I might eat a couple of inches of banana on my way to the gym.

The dietician will encourage you to eat at least 3 different food groups per meal. If what your doing is working for you stay the course. Even now there are few veg that I eat, I tend to stick to the lettuces/cukes/celery and that's usually at lunch time. I'm a meat lover and that fills me up....I want my protein number high so that leaves little room in the pouch for much else.

It really is a personal decision. It's not uncommon to slow down in Month 3 and beyond.

Did you ever plug your numbers in that calculator on here to see where you "should" be each month? It was pretty bang on for me and I had read that others found it accurate as well.

I will look at the calculator - I didn't know it was on the site. The strawberries in the yogurt are a nice treat as the plain Skyr is quite sour (not that I mind). Veggies include cucumber, romaine lettuce (for salmon, chicken or egg roll-ups), and green beans. Protein first, then about 1/4 cup of veggies (if there's room).

I'll search the site and plug in my numbers. If I need any help, I'll ask. Many thanks Ginnny.

You can find it under the Resources tab at the top. Its called Post-Op Planner. As I mentioned, it was fairly accurate. I printed it off and then tracked my weight at each month marker.

Found it. Did you put in your weight at surgery? What percentage of excess weight to lose did you use? I used my surgery weight and 85%. I'm off by a bit (I'll weigh and measure on Thursday), but it is close and appears to be accurate. Everyone should use it. It provides realistic expectations.
