Newbie :). Tips on moving through/expediting the process?

Hi everyone,

I recently have decided, at the suggestion of an internist in Guelph, to try and have bariatric surgery.

I have been referred to the Wharton Clinic from my family dr but have found less than flattering feedback online. It seems to be a more direct path through the Guelph Bariatric Centre of Excellence but not sure if I will get that referral from my dr.

I will go to the initial meeting with Wharton but wondered if anyone has helpful advice in navigating through this journey in the most effient manner.

Thanks for your feedback!

I was with Wharton and found it helpful as was and my hubby who also found it helpful ... Dr Wharton himself talked about the surgery with us both and was willing to take the time to answer any questions. Keep in mind on your first visit they will ask if you have considered the surgery or want it. Don't be offended by their government rules tbey have to because it is fully funded by the government They also did the referral for my wls. So I didn't even need my doctor. Prior to my neck surgery I lost 40lbs with them... I found them to be great. They also ran lots of bloodwork etc tbat got passed on when I got accepted into the wls program.

Good luck!!

One more thing... what worked for me to expedite my experience was to call my centre and find out if any earlier spots were available due to people cancelling their appointments. I was able to move every appointment up significantly - by months each.

Good luck!

Ok great. Thanks! Once I get through all the pre steps and get an appt, I will call to see if I can get a cancellation.
