Post-Op Update & Questions about "Full Fluids"

I had the VSG in Hamilton on Sept 20. Everything went well as can be expected. My abdomen is very sore, and I had really painful neck and left shoulder that seemed worse than anything else. Not sure if it was gas or positioning during surgery. I am feeling a better each day. The first 2 days were not good. I was so nauseated, but thankfully it stopped yesterday.

When I came home yesterday I began full fluids. In the book I have from St Joes, it states I can eat cream soups - strained. I have bought cream of mushroom. I am not sure what else to get to be honest, in the past I made all my own soups and they aren't appropriate for this stage. What soups are considered "creamed"?? would squash soup or tomato soup be ok or not? I wish I would have clarified this soup thing beforehand. I am wondering if anyone can please shed light on what soups are ok to have, and any other things you ate at this stage that you enjoyed. I would appreciate if you could share recipes for good soups for this stage. Any other foods/concoctions you enjoyed at this point would also help. Thanks!! Julie

Knorr has some powdered cream soups (asparagus, and broccoli i think. i know asparagus) Campbell has cream of chicken which is not bad. i make all mine with all milk to bounce up the protein instead of half and half.

i have had a really hard time eating since surgery so i cant be much help.

the thing i enjoyed most seems to be fat free cottage cheese. but it must be eaten slowly. also i find if i have a decaff iced coffee. with a cup of skim milk it also boosts the protein and if i only use sweetener and decaff instant crystals and skim milk i enjoy that. i do count my calories though so that i factor in the milk calories.

hope that helps

I may not be there yet, but I'm closer than I was yesterday!

so my step by step is

i take one and a half teaspoons of decaff instant coffee. and one packet of splenda, i put them under the kurig with no coffee pod and put in the lowest amount of water possible (my kurig is "small" my moms is 4 oz you can use boiling water but it takes longer and more to cool but you don't need much just enough to dissolve the coffee crystals. )

then i stir. then i measure one to one and a half cups skim milk. then i add three to four ice cubes. depending on the size of glass and how hot it is in the glass ( and outside! lol)

thats it. super easy and very enjoyable and about 8.5 g of protein per cup so i get about 12g in a cup

one a day is plenty for me.

Since we all know how different the centers are, we (Hamilton) can have decaf once you are clear of the clear fluids stage.
