Vagus Nerve Cut During Surgery ???

Hello Everyone!

I have a few questions for anyone who has some info on it. Does anyone know if they automatically cut the Vagus Nerve during RNY? I'm just in the beginning stages and of deciding if I want to go through with this (many emotions) and have been investigating A LOT! Maybe too much for my own good. I've read that cutting the Vagus Nerve can have some bad effects on the body. I'm concerned that by trying to fix a lot of other health issues I will mess up my body. Has anyone had any issues if their Vagus Nerve was cut and if so what?

THANKS Again !!!

Not that I know of... both my partner and I have had RNY .. him October 14th 2016 at TWH and mine Feb 14 2017 and should of had my surgery at TWH but was one of the lucky ones who got transferred to Guelph. We are both doing great and have no regrets at all.

Best decision we both made! I understand your hesitation as my partner had concerns to... but he is thrilled he did it.

But you need to make the decision best for you.

Good luck

Laura

I don't even know what that is. It was never talked about in any of my classes or appointments and they were very intense and thorough

referral: early June 2016; surgery Feb 21, 2017

Branches of the vagus nerve. Yes.

No worries. I've never seen anyone have any problems in regards to this.

Update according to medical journals: thicker vagus nerve branches are cut with RNY and distant branches cut with VSG.

Affects hunger apparently but still under scrutiny.

Yes. I'm 12 years of being on this and other online groups I've never see a complication yet related to this other than b12 issues and gastroparesis.
