Topic: RE: Looking for Philadelphia (area) program recommendations

I had my surgery @ Jeanes Temple

Hubby had his surgery @ Temple

All our physicians are @ Temple

I needed to have my surgery in a "real" hospital where if something were to happen all the equipment/departments/physicians were right there.  Barix has a good program however they are not a full hospital, if they had been I probably would have chosen that route.

I work in the insurance end of healthcare and hear good things about all the programs you mentioned.  It is all personal choice and the surgeon you click with.

I did not click with the surgeon who did my hubby's surgery, so I used a different surgeon same surgical practice.

I have friends that have used Abington and Penn and have nothing but great things to say about the programs.  So like I said it all comes down to who you click with and feel comfortable with.

Good luck in your journey - it is an amazing one!!!!

Welcome to the PA board...

Good Evening PA folks;

It is great to see that things are going great for you in Michigan....I'm on here very sporatically....Work has me so busy, crazy busy most days...I need to get myself into a better routine - each day is a new challenge.  Each day I am thankful that I made the move I did.  I'd have loved to have stayed in my old position doing the same thing day in and day out...Hey I got my education for a reason and it was not to sit in a job and department where I had no place to move or advance.

Beth - you do have a wonderful young lady that you are raising!

Donna again congratulations on the new job - how exciting.

Hope you all had a great day....

Thank you Beth!

I totally understand what you are saying about mother's day. I've dreaded it since 1996, mother's day, her birthday, and the anniversary of her death are the three most difficult days of the year for me.

Now that I'm no longer with my ex-husband my mom and I could have been doing a lot together in the last 10 years, it was not meant to be for my mom and I.  In the end her death gave me the strength I needed to get out of a terrible abusive marriage mom did give me a beautiful gift.  I could never leave the ex because he always threatened to kill my mother if I did anything that he was not in approval of and yes I believed/feared that when drunk or high he would go through with that threat.

My mom's birthday is also July!!!!

Good Morning all...

Life is busy, busy, busy.  The new, not so new position is wonderful, I'm loving it.  One of my direct reports went to Maryland to be married yesterday, so I'm baking a cake for Monday to celebrate with the department.  Love baking and decorating cakes..want it to look similar to a wedding cake and be a celebratory cake because the groom will not be at the celebration.

Will probably be taking a long break from FB.  Last weekend was my birthday weekend as the 9th was my birthday.  Neither of my children called to say hey mom want to go do something or hey mom we have plans this weekend how about next we all get together to celebrate your birthday.  I did receive text messages from them on my birthday.  When I signed into FB last weekend found that they were having dinner with their dad and his GF.  Yes I realize they need to spend time with their dad,which they do much more frequently than me.   And I do not have a problem with that, what I do have issue with is they could not take the time to spend with me on my special day.  Am I hurt that neither of them has reached out to me to ask me if we can get together to spend time or to call me and say hey mom can you and Gene come over I want to cook dinner for you,  Absolutely.  Heck they could have called Gene to say we'd like to surprise mom - it is my 55th, double nickle so it's all down hill from here LOL

oK enough ranting from me.  So for those of you that are used to seeing me on FB you will no longer find me there unless it is via private message.  My presence there is virtually going to disappear.

Off to start planning my cake and get some cleaning done.  I was going to go outside to work on an herb garden but the yard is way to wet to go out there right now.

Hope you all have a great weekend...

Hugs,....Ida

Good Afternoon...

Glad to hear you are okay and on spring break....

I took yesterday and today off.  Been non-stop cleaning and getting dust/dirt/construction debris out of the rooms that are sort of finished.  The family room has not looked this nice in 3 almost 4 years...Can't believe it's been this long that our life has been turned upside down...

I am cooking Easter Dinner this year.  Gene's family, my daughters, and some of the folks that helped us put this house back together are coming for dinner.  Gene is worship leader @ church on Sunday so my wonderful youngest daughter and her hubby are coming over early Sunday to get all the fixins for dinner warming.

Gene and I have to go out into the shed today, after he sees a couple clients to find my serving spoons/forks, etc and to bring in some more folding chairs..  I believe we'll be having about 20-25 people for dinner...today I need to start baking and tomorrow get the dinner going to get into the servicing trays for the warming trays...

sometime today I have to run out to the store to pick up some things I forgot yesterday...no matter how many lists I write I still manage to forget something.

Hope you enjoy your time off and relax...

Everyone have a wonderful holiday for those that celebrate..

Topic: RE: Happy St. Patrick's Day - early Roll Call

Good Morning Donna;

thanks for thinking of me!

I am good.  Love the new job, getting acclimated, enjoying the management end of things, I have 16 direct reports.  So my days are quite full, they go by so quickly now.  I'm amazed every day when I look at my watch and it's noon.  I enjoy my senior management, I knew I would, like I said she has been stalking me for years to bring me back to the department.  The company is growing at an amazing rate, not sure how we are doing it but we are!

The house is still the house.  The legal side of it is heating up again, so we'll see what happens in the next few weeks or so.  there are odds and ends that need to be completed in the house - our son-in-law will complete that when he has time, hopefully this summer the court case will be over with so we can put the deck off the back of the house.  We did have to have an engineer and house inspector in the house to make reports on what they found below standards - that will go to the judge - they found stuff is all I can say.

Gene is good.  He's out today to a training with a man that studied under Sal Minuchin - the same program Gene did some of his post graduate work in.  He's really excited about that today.  He'll be teaching a doctoral level course in Addictions starting in May.  We are still muddling through the contracting and credentialing processes with various health insurers.

the kitties are still at odds.  Hider is never going to like Ez.  Ez is so cute and funny there are nights we just sit here and laugh at his antics.  He's so keen and interested in everything always watching to see what we are doing.  The other night he was jumping up to the latch on the basement door to open it to get into the room where Hider was.  It was amazing watching him try to figure out how to open the latch.  He didn't but spent a good 45 minutes trying.  Hider is getting old, we realize we probably have a few good years left with her, it is a shame she will not warm up to Ez, all he wants is someone to hang out with.

Now off to start my long list of stuff I want to accomplish today.  Want to have the kids home for Easter dinner so I have to get the house in a Presentable order, I asked Gene if he wants to invite his family so he's thinking about it.  Not sure if the house if ready to present to his family yet.  I'm looking forward to spending time cooking a nice Easter dinner this year.  I have off Holy Thursday and Good Friday from work, that will give me a few extra days to cook and clean whatever I don't get cleaned this weekend and next.

Happy St. Patty's day to those who celebrate.

Very true.  I know I need to move on and want to move on.  I'm very excited for the new position to start and all that comes with it.  And it will give me the experience that I'll need to go for more senior positions as they are posted.

I told Gene this morning that these two cats are more exhausting than my daughters when they were Teens!!!!

check with your PCP or your surgeon.  Call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask for someone that deals with WLS they should be able to give you some direction.  You can also try this link;

Good Morning PA!!!!

Gene had to go to the office today, he forgot I was off, like he said not everyone is off the Center City office is jumping today with clients...I suppose that is a good thing although would have been nice to spend the day together.  I have a dentist appoint around noonish, then home to clean up the house, do some wash, and start getting myself in gear to pack up my desk.  This coming Friday is my last day in my present department.  I am excited to be moving forward in my career, very sad to be leaving the safety and security, and freedom I will be leaving behind.  My current position is one that I was left to develop completely in line with my skills and knowledge of the industry.  The department I am moving to is a perfect next step to continue to use and enhance my knowledge, in this new position supervising others, I will no longer have the freedom to work from home, take off at the last minute, etc.  I will be giving up the personal contact I have with our providers.  I also know I have to move on to this new position in order to be able to apply for more senior positions within the organization or outside at other companies if the need should ever arise.

Hider is still very grouchy, Ez is so much fun and fun to watch.  Thinking outside the box I asked Gene what he though about maybe getting another younger kitten so Ez would have a playmate and maybe stop following 3 feet behind Hider.  Not sure if another kitten would put Hider over the edge or she'd appreciate the two younger kitties having each other to play with.  I think we are going to talk to the vet when we take Hider back for her next blood test.

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Hubby and I both had our surgeries @ Temple - great team - did not have Dr. Meilahn for the actual surgery, my hubby had him for a follow up procedure great surgeon.  Another relative had his surgery with dr. Meilahan - loved him, great care etc.

I cannot say enough about the Temple surgical team they are tops..

Hi Deb;

Barix is up by the Oxford Valley mall, a lot of folks on this forum had their surgery there, they have a very good support group.  I also had my surgery via Temple.  My hubby had his surgery in 2006 @ Temple, I had my surgery in 2009 @ Jeanes.  Loved the care I received via the Temple team they are tops.  Who is doing your surgery, Dr. Mielien (sp), know I spelled that incorrectly.

When will you have your surgery next month, this time will fly by.

Topic: RE: It is a long weekend roll call!!!

Good Mornin all:

Saturday mornin, got to sleep in a bit this morning.  Have to get up and take my antibiotics around 6, doc said I cannot stray from that schedule, then got to crawl back into bed and relax for a change.

Have a 3 day weekend woo-hoo.  Loving the thought of not having to go to work on Monday.  I do have some cooking/baking to do for church, we are having a luncheon after service to celebrate Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King.   So off to the store once Gene is done working to pick up what I'll need to do the cooking and baking for tomorrow.

Work is crazy busy.  I have so much information and knowledge to share with the new person in the department - yet only having two weeks to do so is just not enough time.  I do have to start packing up my desk next week - next Friday is my last day in my current department.  I've been in this department since I started with the company, in different positions, so it will be sad to be leaving.  In the new position I will still be working with most of the folks I do now just in a different capacity.

I hope you all have a great weekend..

skalicky does not follow through on the follow up.  My hubby had is plastics with skalicky there was supposed to be some follow up, my husband kept calling to schedule, first they told him they were waiting for the proper equipment to arrive at the practice and would call him when it arrived to schedule him for the follow up.  This went on for about a year, then my husband would call leave messages no one would call him back.

I believe a few others on here and that go to the Barix support groups used Lam and are extremely pleased with him.  We had no contact with Lam - keep in mind just because one doc leaves his patient hanging with promises that never materialized does not mean the other doc's in the practice follow the same practice.
