First dumping syndrome (I think)

I had some coffee mate in some coffee earlier (but the cheaper version from sainsburys) omg was i ill. I think I may of eaten too much as well. I was laying on the bathroom floor, cant say I was in pain, more shakey and was (sounds strange here) enjoying laying on the cold floor, Had no energy to get up and felt really unsteady. Made it to the bedroom and slept for 2 hours, now feel right as rain. Was this me dumping? or just cos I ate too much?...whlen i say i ate too much, it was only a small amount i actually ate but i drank a cup of this coffee 5 mins before dinner and drank a wine glass full of juice at the dinner table with my food. Im only 13 days out from having a gastric bypass
Were at same place, I'm 13days!!
I was told no drinks w dinner m that's my struggle now def.
I think coffee or juice could not.of helped ya..but.I'm a.newbie...let's ask the gurus. I need to know this stuff too!! Lol
Why did you drink with your food?

That still makes me want to throw up.

Also a LOT of new-ops can't drink before their meal for thirty minutes because their pouch backs up and it takes a while to empty, even of liquids.

Didn't your doctor or dietician explain why we should not drink with meals?  That might have made you feel ill, or it might have been the sugar in the juice.  Juice is not the best thing to drink right now.

I am 7.5 years post RNY and I neither drink fruit juice nor do I drink with my meals!!!

If the coffee mate was NOT sugar free - that could have caused you to dump, the fruit juice could have caused you to dump and I'll bet you felt full after eating because of the juice too.   I don't find that liquids flush food out of my pouch, but that it all backs up until I puke!

In short:  no juice, no creamer unless it's sugar free, don't drink with meals.   Nobody should be dumping at 13 days because you should be drinking water and eating protein at this stage!

Congrats on your surgery, BTW, my sister had her RNY in Essex in November 2010 and has done really well!

8 years + post RNY - 100% EWL and maintaining ...

I agree with all you say, though I did find out i'm a dumper when i was 18 hours postop because they gave me glucerna and I dumped like crazy on that foul brew. Yuck!!!!

you need to be looking at your labels at the sugar.  The juice probable had a gazillion grams of sugar.  There is a ocean spray diet cranberry juice.

You should try to keep your sugars less than 6

I had RNY surgery 11 yrs ago and if I try to eat and drink I still get that crazy feeling. If I am at home, I just sit back and watch my stomach move around as the food and drink fight it out(lol).  That is the way my body feels and looks.  Even though I have gained half of what I lost, I still get sick if I eat and drink or don't chew meat til certain consistancy.

Whatever you do, don't eat and drink together, wait 30-45 minute and be very careful to follow the guidelines.  I didn't and am now seeking a revision.  Remember it is a TOOL and must be worked.  It is not a toy and not to be played with.

Take care and good luck with your TOOL.

Fruit juice has a ton of sugar... at 8 months out I can only handle a few sips before it makes me feel nauseous. I also try to make sure that I don't drin****il an hour after my meals.

Thanks everyone, I assure you Im going to be a million times more careful now. The doctors/surgeons didnt tell me any of this!!!! I thought to be honest i knew everything there was to know, oh how wrong was I!! lol. Big learning curves now, Its me trying to get rid of the old charmaines habits and start on a new me! x

Juice - what kind of Juice?

I agree with the other post and you need to talk to your surgeon.  He should have told you this.

Hope you are feeling better.
